This involves cleaning lines and reels and refinishing rods. To clean a reel, soak the parts in gasoline to remove all old grease and dirt. A good trick is to use an old toothbrush to clean stubborn dirt out of the gears. Next, check the parts for wear. If replacements are needed, they may be obtained at sporting goods stores or bait shops. Lines should be checked and replaced where need be. Fly lines should be washed in warm, mild, soapy water and then regreased. The county league will be made up ot eight teams this year with some changes made. Johnsburg, Richmond, Algonquin and McHenry ate in as usual. Crystal Lake will have only one entry this year, known as the "Chiefs". Hebron is back in the league and Elgin is in with two teams, the V.F.W. and Merchants. After two Sundays of practice, the Shamrocks" will meet Crystal Lake here in a practice game on Sunday, April 29th. If our memory is correct, Billy Pries was one of the collectors in that famous key trick pulled on Us several years ago. Now, he is throwing keys away. It was chilly one evening last week so Billy put on a jacket belonging to one of "his employees. His story is that the jacket is identical with one of his own. : As our key man rode along the ,countiy club on his way home, he felt some keys in the pocket of the jacket. Quick as a flash he deducted that this jacket had been hanging around a long time and the keys must have been a holdover from a car sold long ago. Casting rods do not need much attention but it is a good idea to check the guides. It is surprising what a warn guide can do to a good line. When revarnishing, be sure to get the surface smooth as glass and perfectly clean. A good brush for touch up jobs is a feather, but don't try to varnish a whole rod with one. "The Wheaton Sports Show" will be held on April 21 in the Wheaton Community high school gym from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is a one day affair and admission is free. There will be 45 displays and many expert demonstrations. A program featuring a host of national champions plus local talent will be held, in the afternoon. Due to the bowling season we have been unable to agree on a specific date for a meeting on youth baseball. However, the meeting will take place very soon and the managers and other interested parties will be notified as to the date and place. As for Little League baseball, the discussion so far indicates that new teams will have to be selected. At a preliminary meeting of league officers, it was pointed out that to be entirely within the regulations, the teams would have to be re-selected. So far only one manager, George Cross, who worked awfully hard with the boys last year, has indicated he will not be able to manage this year; the reason being tha^t his work would prevent him from being at all the games and thus he felt it would not be fair to try to manage on a part time basis.
