This year a most delicious roast beef dinner was served by some very capable waitresses and prepared by experienced cooks. Following s the dinner a short ^usiness meeting was held. During "*the course of the meeting. President Mike Schaefer presented the past president Fred Smith, with a beautiful framed certificate showing his lifetime membership in the club. Mr. Smith was president of the club for thirteen years up until this year and serves as one of the directors now. Dancing followed the meeting until the close of the evening. V* "• • : " Saddened by Deaths Three families were saddened by deaths this past week. Friends of Mrs. Catherine Katerski will be sorry to learn of her passing in Chicago late last Monday evening. Mrs. Katerski spent many summers at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Stermer,' on the river. ^ Burial took place in Chicago on Friday morning. Mrs. Oeffling was one of the oldest and most respected residents in our community. Our deepest sympathy is extended to her children and their families. Joseph Mangold, age 75, passed ^feway at Memorial hospital Sunday afternoon. Mr. Mangold recently underwent surgery, after which pneumonia set in, followed by a heart attack which proved fatal. Surviving are his widow, Nellie; two sons, Phil and faorbert, one daughter, Mrs. Marie Bell, and seven grandchildren. Funeral services took place in Cicero on Wednesday. Rescue Squad Called The Johnsburg rescue squad was called upon to lend assistance quite frequently recently. Over last weekend, three times they were called out. On Saturday evening, Joe Adams suffered heat exhaustion and the squad members gave assistance ^ .and drove him to a local doctor. Later Satjunlay evening, they received a call from Huemann's subdivision that someone was in the river calling for help. The squad immediately left for the scene and members were joined by the sheriff's patrol, and the McHenry fire department. They dragged the river for almost two hours but to no avail. So far. no one has been reported missing so j fl|just what really happened no one seems to know. i Sunday afternoon, John Rein- j boldt of McHenry suffered from a respiratory ailment and once again the members of the squad handled the situation. Hats off to the Johnsburg rescue squad! A large number of people gathered at the Community club in the evening for dinner and the reception. Mr. and Mrs. Knox were presented with many lovely gifts which will prove useful in their years ahead. After their honeymoon, the newlyweds will be setting up housekeeping in a new home in Cooney Heights. First Communion At the 8:30 mass at St. John's church last , Sunday morning, a group of young girls and boys re-(last week. Marge Doase, Lorraine Coari, Mabel Smith, Mrs. Earl Koch. Mary Therese Schneider, Billy Diedrichf' Mary Jane Heitz and Marcella Schafer. If you are not contacted and wish to contribute, please get in touch with either of the chairmen, who-are Ethel Heim and Ann Zeller. 1 Around The Town Mr. and Mrs. John Dehn and daughter, Joan, of Chicago visited relatives hera over last weekend Clarence Timm . of Mountain. Wis., spent a few days down here ceived their first Holy Communion day. The altars of the church were beautifully decorated with flowers for the occasion. The little girls looked like little angels going down that long center aisle and the boys wore stern iooks oh their faces trying to hide the excitement which has mounted for several weeks now. The parents of the children were just as proud as they sat close behind to watch. Mrs. Helen Hettermann and Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Hettermann and family were dinner guests at the John Herdrich home in McHenry in honor of Linda's first communion day.- , • The Gerry Hettermann familyspent Sunday at the Joe Simon home, honoring Raymond, who also made his first communion. Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Lasser en- Mrs. Dolores Ludford and sons spent Mother'6. Day visiting her parents, the John Schmitts. The Richard Dehn family and the Jim Hettermann family visited the John D^hn home in Chicago on Mother's Day. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Freund on the arrival of their new son, born at Memorial hospital on May 14. He weighed 8 lbs. 4 oz. and will be welcomed home by his two big sisters. The first communion class marched in the procession, as did the forthcoming graduating class.
