Approximately sixty stu- BRIDGE CAN BE FUN You've often heard the old expression, "Too many Chiefs--not enough Indians." A Contract Bridge authority recently paraphrased it to apply to the present status of his favorite card game: "Too many ex perts -- not enough or . dinary play ers." Actually w h a t h e means is that some of the people who used to play Bridge just for the fun of it seem to be fading out of the picture. "Bridge," the authority explained, "used to be a sociable game. Then the experts started refining it. ..Gradually over the years some people seem to have become scared of Bridge. Anyone who has ever played the game just for funjand sociability will be the first to tell you it is actually a simple game to learn. That it is still immensely popular throughout the country is borne out by recent surveys which show it to be the second most popular of all card games, topped only by Canasta. It is estimated that 25,000,000 adult Americans and many children enjoy the gam* today. The latter fact--children . playing Bridge--may surprise a lot of people. Yet, it only goes to point up the fact that Bridge is not nearly as complex nor as puzzling as many people believe it to be. Lessons on how to play Bridge are contained in many books on card games for children and they have convinced adults that as long as the game can be mastered by the small fry, they too cpn learn it. The most exciting news in Contract Bridge circles in recent years, of course, is the Point Count System, Designed to make bidding easier and to assist partners in the exchange of essential information, the Point Count system accomplishes this by assign* ing fixed point values to the honor or high cards. This makes it easy to figure out what a hand is worth. Under the Point Count System, the Ace is worth four points, the King three points, the Queen two and the Jack one. A hand should contain at least twelve points for 'opening ®uit, bids plus a good suit that yoti c«n; bid again. • A free, pocket-sized leaflet is'available which describes in detail everything you need to know about the Point Count System. A copy may be obtained by sending a card or letter to Playing Cards, 420 Lexington Avenue, New York 17. Point Count Bidding will help you rediscover the fun and enjoyment that only Contract Bridge can give you. LEGAL charter night. .
