Brownie's Knjoy Trip Two bus loads of Brownie Scouts and eleven leaders enjoyed a trip Thursday. Aug. SThe sixty-five girls and leaders traveled about twenty miles south of Elgin to a state forest preserve. There they were able to go into a large windmill and see how it operated years ago. The windmill was built in the 1870s and is kept in good repair. Seventy- five members of the church have volunteered to work in this campaign. These workers are calling on members and friends of Nativity and it is hoped that 540,000 will be raised in cash and pledges payable over a twtjyear period. Anyone wishing to contribute to the Nativity "Forward in Faith" building fund may do so by mailing it to the ' church or by giving it to one of t lie workers. The Wonder Lake club was to transport the gavel to Rochelle. Ed Traub of the Fort Pearce, Florida club gave an enjoyable talk about Florida arid his home town In particular. Other guests were Tony Schibe of South Chicago, Dr. Barta, Berwyn and Ken Leibach of McHenry. Ken displayed and explained the traveling trophy that was awarded to the king and queen at the County Fair. Thursday, August 16, 1956 STATE PARKS FISHHOOK TROUBLE Fa,mily Picnic Had the rain storm held off o/ie hour the family picnic held Sunday, Aug. 12 on the Wdbded Shores beach would have been a .perfect success.. This was the first social event planrfed by the •newly, organized social1: committee of 'that subdivision. Swimming, cards, visiting and a fish pond for the youngsters provided entertainment during the after- »noon. Each family brought their wieners to roast and a dish to pass for the supper hour. However. the heavy downpour of rain terminated the picnic just as some were preparing to eat. The committee re receiving suggestions to repeat the picnic but no plans have been made. $ Open House A reception was held ufor the new assistant of Christ the King church, Sunday, Aug. 12, at Mathews hall. Rev. James Vanderpool presented Father Paul Kruk -to tile' people of Christ the King church who attended this open house. The children of the parish, accompanied by Walterine Rocljiowicz, at the immature organ, sang "McNamara's Band." John 1 Van Kanegan played several selections on the organ while the people attending the reception sang. Happened early in the morning--about two a.m.--and the first thing most of us knew about it was when we tried to turn on the faucets and nothing came oyt but a hissing noise. Nobody was inconvenienced much though. Repair crew went right to work --and things were fixed up in jig time. Incidentally, the water company got a flood of payments on overdue bills that day. Lots of "forgetful" folks must have figured they were being warned! From where I sit, sometimes our obligations slip our minds. Like the responsibility we all have to our communities ... to see that our neighbors enjoy the right to decide for themselves how to work, how to vote, whether or not to enjoy a bottle of beer.
