As near as we can get it at this point, it looks like the Republicans will be doing most of the celebrating tonight. No matter who wins, it looks like we will have to get up and go to work in the morning. • SJ But, the Republican joy can be nothing compared to the spirit We saw last Friday night when the McHenry Warriors won their third straight football game that r lifted the team to third position ' in the final standings for the season in the strong North Suburban league. ' Jack Pheanis was a happy coach as the season wound up with greater success than McHenry had seen before in this league. He had some real good boys in there this year and might have won two more games with any kind of a rabbit's foot working for his interests. • You don't alibi in sports, but there is no denying that injuries w r e c k e d M c H e n r y ' s o f f e n s e through the middle of the season. The line was strong, but the backfield needed full strength all the way. Ronnie Howard was one of the team managers and we wondered if he might not get trampled in the rush the last two games. Guess he's fast. They are talking in bowling circles about Jack Skaling's feat of picking up the „ 4-10 railroad twice in a row Thursday night at McHenry Recreation while^ bowling with the Fitz Realty teaim. Psychiatrist to patient: "When did you first discover that you enjoyed paying your income taxes?" This week it is Pat Kosti who goes to the head of the class among the lady bowlers. Pat clipped the pins to the tune of 219 in one game for a 555 series. Fellows like Dennis Litwin, a senior playing for the first time in McHenry, kept the backfield hustling by being ready to step in and do a good job when needed. When you think of hard running, you can't miss thinking of P. J. Schneider, but the best runs we saw all year were by Team Manager, LeRoy Hiller. All jokes aside, LeRoy. showed great spirit in taking over the manager's job when a slight physical problem kept him out of the lineup. Co-operation pays off in team effort. We saw line coach Cliff Fulton and every coach on the staff right out there plugging for the team and giving Coach Pheanis a hand in every game. We were proud of Paul Yanda's band and just loved to watch those snappy \ime cheer leaders bounce around trying to urge the team to go "tha-a-a-t way". Don Howard's announcing was real good and helpful to fans trying to follow the game. DAILY PIN-UPS Exaggeration is the human element that talks big and ends up in a whisper. Every towering oak was once a tiny acorn. Two of the softest things to lean on are a soft shoulder and hard cash. Work upon marble is one that will perish; wisdom in hearts is one that we'll cherish. Laughter is the lubricating oil that keeps a spark-plug from becoming a crank. Robbie's Fearless Predictions: Ohio over Indiana Michigan State over Purdue Northwestern over Wisconsin Pittsburg over Notre Dame Colorado U. over Missouri Oklahoma over Iowa State Iowa over Minnesota Army over Wm. & Mary Georgia Tech over Tennessee U.C.L.A. over Washington 0 THE GREAT OUTDOORS By Jack Walsh Our lighting system grew dimmer each game by comparison with other schools, but that will be corrected in another year. No complaints as the season wound up in great style. But believe yoilme, if the school board doesn't provide a press coup at the new field we are going to tote along our old camp chair in one hand and a thermos bottle full of coffee in the other. We won't try to appraise the value of each player at this time. Let's wait until the Kiwanis football banquet Monday, November 26th and hear what their coach saw in each boy. WARRIORS WIND UP SEASON WITH 7TOO VICTORY Beat Libertyville Football Team In Battle To Finish G T E Q LH RH FB In case you are planning a picnic any day now, Billy Pries has constructed some permanent berfches on the V.F.W. grounds. Patent pending. Portable benches cause so many problems that can never arise with these new cement bases, sliwer-proof numbers. Be it a cook-out in June or a freeze-out in January, Billy is prepared. Guess we can't forget football. Bill Hecht, a statistician of note, tells us that P. J. Schneider carried the ball 8 times for 48 yards for an average of 6 yards per try. Figures in the sgfnp order for The Pheasant season opens Sunday^ November 11th' «t 12 noon. During the balance of the season shooting hours are from sunrise to sunset. The season runs from November 11 November 30. Daily kill limit is two and possession limit is four^ We have seen quite a few pheasants in this locality this year and the shooting should be good. There are also a good number of partridge around. It is unlawful to shoot them at any time. With all the dry weather we have been having the sloughs and fields are very» dry. Remember to completely extinguish all cigarettes and matches. Rabbit season does not open until November 24th. This late opening on rabbits worked out well last year. The main reason for this late start is to cut down on diseased rabbits. The manufacturers of shotgun shells are trying to discourage the reloading of shot shells. Quite a fuss is being raised by one in particular. Here is a case where sportsmen will have to stick together. Trapping season for mink, muskrat, racoon, oppossum, skunk and weasel opens Thursday, November 15th at 12 noon and runs to 12 noon, December 31st. We went coon hunting with Carl Tomm the other night. We didn't have any luck, but sure enjoyed ourselves. Carl's dogs treed three coons in one tree Monday night. His dogs must have had a good time fighting with all those coons. --Jack Walsh.
