Then he sits down to watch the decorating performance. One year we planned to help with the tinsel. Our idea was to stand on a ladder and drop the tinsel--sort of letting the chips fall where they may. We found out that it has to be placed piece by piece and that our lack of artistic nature ruled us out of the picture. Christmas cards never fail to give us a thrill. We open each one carefully and mutter--"So and so never forgets"--or--"Now, we never got a card from them before" -- and holler into the other room--"Hey Mom, do we have the Blanks on our card list?" Of course, we can hurry up and send them one if it isn't too close to the deadline. Each year somebody has a real clever card and we vow to make up one of our own next year that will be original, different and sincere. McHenry was simply outplayed and the stpry might end on that note except that the home team showed some bright spots which should be recorded for those not present.
