Village News * The village board held their regularly scheduled meeting on Mbnday, Feb. 11 in the beachfyouse. At this time, the special Committee composed of Allen Mc- Kim ,and Bill Creutz submitted the final map of the village. Corrections were made. Individual house numbers will be assigned from the final corrected map when it is approved by the board. In the not too distant future, we will have door to door mail service. As you know, this project was started several months ago. The Public Service company has been working in the community. removing trees which stand iii the way of poles and wires. With their removal, our electric s^gtvice will be greatly improved. 1 The next meeting will be Monday night, Feb. 25 at 8 p.m. in •the - beachhouse. "Super Highway"! B Complications after birth, prevented Joyce from returning to the village. She and the youngsters .have been residing with her family in the city. Charlotte Johnson is leaving the first of March to spend some time with her sister in Florida. Lutheran Evangelism Mission The final local service for the mission will be held at Nativity Lutheran church. Wonder Lake, tonight, Thursday, at 8 p.m. Guest missioner, the Rev. C. Carl Eklof of Decatur, will speak on the subject, "Cornerstone or Stumbling Block." Everyone is cordially invited to attend. Full House The, lovely home of Signe and Harold Osburn has been alive wit> company this past weelf Mrs. Ruth Eklof, Signe's sister, and daughter Shari have been staying with them, while husband, Pastor Eklof has been preaching at Nativity Lutheran church. Mrs. OSburn's mother, Mrs. Ben Benson arrived by train from Douglas, Ariz, on Sunday, to join the household for an indefinite stay. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Miller and two daughter/? from Elgin spent the day. Other guests for the Sunday evening repast in- Diogenes -- Where Art Tliou? He would have found his honest man in the form of Erling Olsen. The other a.m., Erling was coming out of the drug store in town when he discovered n crumpled five dollar bill on thi? sidewalk. Instead of pocketing the currency, he stepped back inside and asked jf anyone had lost money. 'Twas a happy housewife who recovered jier grocery cash by identifying the denomination A -pat on the back to Erling (Honest Abe) Olsen. JOHNSBURG NEWS • ••"iy Betty Hetterman Bowling Notes' Last week Tuesday, "Feb. 12, a group of farmers and their wives travelled to Rockford to bowl in the Farm Bureau tournament. Laura Schmitt and Jsabelle Stilling were among the two winners in the ladies division and "Bud" Miller was one of the men on the winning men's team. Although the others didn't enter the winner's circle, they sure had a swell time. Our Loss Is McHenry's gairt. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hammerstein, Jr. and daughter Lynn moved from their horrje on Park View to take up residence in town. The young Hammersteins have, been local residents for several years and Lynn is the reining "Queen of McCullom Lake," having received that title at the carnival last sumnier. Best wishes and happiness in your new home! " Not One'--- Not Two Frank Koepke shot 70„ (hit the target that many tunes) at the Sportsmen's dub trap range last Sunday. The men <%eat their own previous record which was 52. Next Sunday, twenty trap shooters from the Lake will meet with the McHenry club for a trap scooting meet at the trap range in Pistakee Bay. Best In Entertainment Theater tickets are still available from Mrs. Marie Howe for the color film, "Aida" to , be shown at the McHenry theater, Feb. 27. The film is being sponsored by our good neighbors, the LPPOA of Lakeland '•Park who are working for their much needed community hall. <? Congratulations To Emma and Otto Pyritz who But three cakes were baked will celebrate 39 years of marriage for young Paul Nitz on his tenth i Wednesday, Feb. 27. ' On Sunday evening, Feb! 17, the men Foresters of St. John's court held their annual bowling banquet in the Community club hall. The men finished*their bowling party on the previous night, so everyone was anxiously awaiting the final reports. The first place team consisted of Wally Smith, Norb Smith, Charlie Smith, Joe Huemann and Clarence Michels. The doubles trophy was presented to Ben Freund and Stanley Freund. Although Norbert Hiller was unable to be present, the first place single trophy was put aside for him. Stanley Freund was presented., with, a second trophy, when he took first place for all events. The delicious roast beef dinner served by our community's best cooks, was "the most". I doubt if you could have heard one complaint. After all the trophies and awards were distributed, the evening's dancing . began. Everyone agrees, "lets do it again next year." Shop Opening We all join in wishing. Mig. Joyce and Gloria Jorgensen the very best in their new business venture. "Slumber" (iroup Lois Schmitt entertained a group of girls at her home on Feb. 15, for a slumber party. Refreshments were served to the young ladies during the course of the evening. Present were Elaine Weber, Janet Smith, Betty Sompel, Nancy Whiting, Margie Thompson, Louise Schmitt and Mary Lou Wakitsch. Birthday Celebration The family of Mrs. Catherine Smith gathered at her home last Sunday to honor her eightieth birthday. Barbara ' Brand is driving the ctitest thing on wheels--a black and white MG. She is completely captivated with her little "wagon" . . . Barbara and Derrick Egerstaffer are recuperating from the ravages of chicken pox. Brother David started the epidemic in the family . . . Mrs. His guests included Dennis Huff, Davie Miller, Danny Strach. and several school chums from St. Mark's. Daddy Paul Sr. came home from work in time to supervise the fellows practicing their "rock 'n roll"! Lack of female partners, bothered the boys not at all. Music was supplied by the new record player presented to the young lad by his mom and dad. Their appetites sated by huge quantities of candy, cake, and ice cream, the lads were loathe to leave. Social Night The Ladies of the Lake will meet next Thursday, Feb. 28 at 8 p.m. in the beach-house for a social evening. Can You Top This? Len Jensen, Dick Osterby. We played games and we had pop, cookies, candy, and angel food cake with strawberry icing. Susan Gerasch brought the cake. Respectfully submitted, Chrys Levesque Joy and Karen, visited Carol Ann Stilling at St. Colettas school in Jefferson, Wis., last week. While there, they also visited with Susan Pitzen. Get well wishes are extended to Mrs. Helen Pitzen, who hasn't been feeling quite up to par this past week. Mr. and Mrs. John Ketterhagen and friends of Burlington, Wis., spent last Sunday visiting here. Don't forget the pre-lenten dance sponsored by the Community club next Saturday, Feb. 23. Plan on. attending and join in on the dancing fun. Brownie News The meeting of Feb. 12, found the girls enjoying a Valentine party. Ice cream, cookies, candy and pop were served to the girls and was consumed in large quantities. Bonnie Oeffling was hostess at this meeting. At the previous meetings, the girls prepared Valentines for the parents. Lu Ann Smith, Lu Oeffling and| Harriet Marshall have consented^ to help with next year's troops. • There is still an urgent need for % more women to. help.
