THE McHENRY Wonder Lake News By Pfayills Whitfield Nativity Lutheran Church Attention all Luther leaguers-- remember the ice skating to be held Saturday, March 2, at 7:30 at the home of Ernie Vogt on Lake Shore drive. In the event that ice skating is out of the question for the evening, the league will travel to the McHenry roller rink for an evening of roller skating. "The Spirit of Lent" is the sermon chosen for Sunday, March 3, by Pastor Burton Schroeder. A special pot-luck dinner will be held at 6:06, Sunday evening, March 3, for all the members of the church who served on the building fund drive. Six months have passed since the drive ended and this dinner will be a reunion of all the members of the 9:09 club, which was the group of workers on the building fund program. It will be an evening of fine fellowship and the recalling of memories of the campaign. All the workers are invited to attend. Besides reports on the progress -of the building fund, two movies will be shown, "Dedicated Men," a fine religious film and another in a lighter vein will be enjoyed by the children, who also are most welcome to come. The second session of the pastor's class will be held on Tuesday evening, March 5, at 7:30 p.m. As a result of the Lutheran Evangelism mission, many adults have indicated interest in this class and all are welcome. This discussion class is for everyone, whether they intend to unite with the church or not. Rev. Filas, S. J. will give a talk and slides will be shown. The regular monthly Communion Sunday for the Altar and Rosary sodality and Junior Altar and Rosary sodality will be at the 9 a.m. Mass March 3. "Martin Luther" Film On Monday, March 4 at 8 the Women of the church will present the film, "Martin Luther" at Harrison school. Everyone in the community is invited to attend the showing of this famous picture. Refreshments will be served after the showing. March 3, workers will be calling on residents of Wonder Lake. A luncheon will be served to the workers at 1 o'clock at Harrison school. They will then receive their materials and instructions. William T. Born is the chairman of the Wonder Lake branch. Kiwanlg Notes The Kiwanis Lt. Governor, Dave Klontz of Rockford, visited the Wonder Lake club Feb. 18 and commended the club highly for their work and the activeness of the club. The Marengo club is planning a Ladies Night Tuesday, March 26, and members of the Wonder Lake club are urged to join them if possible. Remember--Attend and Bring A Friend. Card Party Benefits Wooded Shores Canasta group met Wednesday, Feb. 20, at the home of Mrs. Betty Bland. Hie hostess and Mrs. Jean Motulewicz held high scores. Others present were Mesdames Loretta Pierson, Olga Grasser, Lorraine de Laurier, Eloise McCafferty and Ann Weretka. These ladies and Prudance Grabovy and Simone Fuller, who were unable to attend, presented Mrs. McCafferty with a gift Our sympathies go to Harry Grunland, Shore Hills, whose wife, Elizabeth, passed away last week and was buried Friday , in a Chicago cemetery. The Grunlunds have lived at Wcnder Lake about three years. Mr and Mrs. F. J. Grasser and children, Jamie and Susan, were guests in the home of the Jack Phillips home in Clinton, Iowa, Sunday. The PTA resale shop, which was located in the Mathews building has closed. The bake sale which was held there every Saturday will continue to be held each Saturday from 12 to 2 p.m. at Paul's Hardware store. The proceeds from these sales will go to help provide a better library for Harrison school. New Son In The Family Mr. and Mrs. T. P. Mathews proudly announce the birth of their second son Saturday, Feb. 23, at Woodstock hospital. Terrance Paul weighed 7 lbs. 4 oz. and he will be called Terry. He has a brother and two sisters who welcome him home. Christ The King Jack Walter Miller son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Otto Miller was baptized Feb. 3. He was born Jan. 7. The Godparents are Albert J. Blahut#and Eleanor Regelin. On Feb. 17, Barton Anthony Stromski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Stromski, was baptizedf. His birth date was Jan. 9. The godparents are Walter A. Stromski and Anna Brough. Alice Marie Noble, daughter cf Mr. and Mrs. John Noble was baptized Feb. 24. She was born Jan. 11. Her godparents are Kenneth and Katherine Noble. Preparation for Confirmation All the children who are to be confirmed on Thursday, March 7. will meet every day after school at the church and on Sunday at ID. The adults will meet Sunday, March 3, at 2 p.m. at the church for the instructions and at 2:30 p.m. adults, children and their sponsors will practice for the ceremony.
