The alternates are Frank Schroeder and A1 Schimke. Last Saturday, Dan Creamer took pictures of the youngster^ participating in the bowling program and this Saturday, March 9, the program will wind up with the play-off for twelve trophies. The merit award dinner has been announced for Tuesday night, May 7, at St. Patrick's churcn. Arnold Rauen is to act as master of ceremonies and some fine entertainment is being planned. Sam Yokeley was appointed the1 chairman of the attendance committe so expect a call from him or his committee if your attendance has been lax. Remember--Attend and Bring a Friend. Nativity Lutheran Church News Sunday, March 10, which is the first Sunday in Lent, the scrament of the Holy Communion will be administered at both the 8 and 10:45 services. The sermon topic for this Sunday will be "TTie Waiting One." The Luther league will meet at 7:30, Sunday, March 10. for their regular business meeting. Plans will be made at this meeting for the Confirmation class reception to be held on April 28. Tuesday, March 12, the Altar guild of the church will meet at 8. Plans will be made for the cleaning and decoration of the church for Easter. All are invited to the mid-week Lenten services which are held every Wednesday evening during Lent at 7:43. The theme of the Wednesday evening sermons is "Living in Conflict," the sermon title for next Wednesday evening. The Holy Name society meets March 14 at 8:30. at Mathews hall. March 17 brings to Christ the King churcJv^^Rev. Francis L. Filas, S. J., of Loyola university, Who will present a talk and slides on "The Shroud of Turin." This program sponsored by the Holy Name society is open to all interested persons. Chamber of Commerce Meets The Wonder Lake Chamber of Commerce met Thursday, Feb. 28 at the 'Rolaine Grill. After enjoying a delicious dinner, the present officers were re-elected to serve for another year. They are Walter Dean, president; Dr. S. L. M at kindergarten class presented two rhythm dances. • ^ There will be no school FHday, arch 8. The teachers will be attending a cpunty institute in Woodstock. Parents and teachers will have another opportunity to meet and discuss the work of the students Wednesday and Thursday, March 13 and 14. Slips are being sent home with students to make appointments. There were twelve soloists and six ensembles from Westwood. Their director is Vernon Hajeck. Jack placed first in his trombone1 solo and John placed second in the Class D of this contest,) sponsored by the Northern Division Grade School *Banc^ association. There were 846 entries requiring fourteen judges for the various events. This was the first year students kfrom Westwood school in Woodstock Wfere entered in this contest. Jack Moore was also in a quartette which placed second. - TTie first place winners from this contest will go to a town near DeKalb April 26 to compete 'in another contest. • LEGAL Burton Schroeder united in marriage Mrs. Helen Kenney and Mr. Jules Strick. Christ the King* Church News Lenten devotions will be held each Wednesday evening, consisting of Stations, sermon and benediction. Guest speakers will alternate weekly. The regular monthly meeting of the Altar and Rosary sodality will meet at the Mendyk home at 8:30 Thursday evening, March 7. Sunday, March 10. they will hold a bake sale in the rear of the church before and after all Masses. A variety of homemade bread, pies and cakes will be offered for sale.
