H. Alan Long, district director, Chicago, announced that the Internal Revenue Service, in cooperation with TV station WTTVV, Channel 11, the educational station, will present a series of-programs to show you how to prepare your 1956 income tax return. The programs are scheduled for every Tuesday night in March, from 9:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Agents from the Chicago district office will tell you exactly what to do while you watch -your TV screen. These timely programs, Mr. Long explained, are aimed to help thousands of taxpayers who can't leave their jobs to aid in preparing their returns or who don't have the opportunity to learn about income tax. These programs will present step - by - step demonstrations of preparing forms 1040A and 1040 and various schedules. Taxpayers will be invited to telephone questions to the revenue agents at the studio and get the answers while the program is in progress. Mr. Long urges taxpayers to be ready when the program starts with the necessary forms and information. This should include blank tax forms, pencil and paper, your W-2 wage slips, other income figures and list of exemptions, deductions and credits. This year, as in previous years ,the Legion and auxiliary are planning a joint birthday celebration. Plan on bringing your family and attending the party this year. The next annual monthly meeting will be held at the Legion home on March 18. Be sure to at<- tend, especially those who have honor guard pins coming. Unless ill or unable to come out, you will not receive your pin. In March, activities for the communities in which the auxiliary's 14.000 units are located will be featured, with community betterment projects for the spring and summer being planned and launched. On Feb. 23, the following ladies attended the convention in West Chicago: Eleanor Reid, Ruth Mrachek, Dorothy Deidrich and Lauretta Homo. The McHenry "unit won an award for the most new members in the district. We were tied for this honor with Glen Ellyn. The award signifies we were thirty-six; above 100 per cent and thirty-eight above quota. Also present at this convention was the department president, Mae Ladky, who gave an interesting talk. It was brought up on the floor that the juniors should have their own regional conference in our district. This was voted upon, but turned down, because there aren't enough active junior groups.
