AJB- BHwtfitrV This department is going to try to line up a new crystal gazer ^to let us know the outcome of jsports contests before they are played. Bob Hendricks, coach, scorekeeper and loyal bopster at JvICriS. picked the winner in ev- £ry basketball game played at Champaign the past week in •which the state championship was decided. Most of the experts picked Collinsville while many in this^area had hopes for Elgin. Along comes Herrin with determination and the cleverest defensive play of the tournament to win the crown. ~ In the college ranks, Bradley jbounced up after a not so hot record to knock off th& field. Sometimes it depends on how the ball bounces. More often it depends on the bounce left in a team at the finish. have Elmer J. Freund and Bert Harrison (Yep. He's getting thin on top) lined up for our organization. More will join as charter members as soon as gets around. the word 0 THE GREAT OUTDOORS -- Bowling Bar -- Thurs. The story goes on to say why our favorites will slip from third to fifth place. Just wait 'till we put in our first team! You won't be hearing many finer talks than one delivered by Jesse Owens, former track star, at the Rotary Sports Banquet. Tuesday night. Of course, John Looze, Rotary President, and the future leader. Ernie Useman, are old hands at the "mike". It was the poise shown by our coaches, Cliff Fulton and Jerome Kalk, that made us think they have been practiceing. Oh, that Chuck Peterson! He fined Ernie and yours truly for answering a sports quiz question in which we said it is Mickey Mantle's left ankle that is injured. A couple of little publications like the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Daily News say it is the left ankle. We plan to appeal to a higher court. Bu*"in«»ss Men -- B. Voase, 226; H. Sutton, Robert Seeber, Sr., and Roy Morrison. - Explorer judges were Ed. Thennes and William Pries. Referees were Joe* Murray and Edwprd Thorne for Scouts and George Mitchell tor Explorers. Timekeepers were Adrian Awmit-for Scouts and Fred Wahl, Sr., for Explorers. Acting as doctors were Walter Durrenburg and H. S. Fike for Scouts and William E. Creutz for Explorers.
