'57 MARCH OF DIMES CONTRIBUTIONS AID IN PATIENT CARE Sh w SCH 00<- 4f With the advent of the polio season, it is interesting to note that $27,719.45 was collected in the 1957 March of Dimes drive throughout McHenry county. Of this total, McHenry contributed $4,305.82; Ringwood, $102.73; Wonder Lake, $491.54; Island Lake. $111.17; Spring Grove, $369.83. Patient care for outstanding bills has amounted to $8,997.57 for eighteen cases, which comes out of the 50 percent that remains for local use. County Chairman J. L. Townsend says it is rumored that financial aid to polio victims may be limited to those who have taken advantage of the vaccine that has been offered to the public. He said the blame for such a condition must be accepted by those who won't take advantage of this preventive. Limited financial aid is available from federal, state and national foundation fuqds for those who are unable to pay for vaccine. Manufacturers, schools and clubs have been contacted in an effort to encourage mass inoculations to speed up the program so no one will be omitted. Time is short to receive any benefits for 1957, Mr. Townsend warns. Now is the time for all citizens to write to their state senators and representatives to do some streamlining of the state of Illinos constitution. Personal property tax is No. 1 on the list. This is the most unfair tax ever devised to get the property owner's buck. The Blue Ballot was defeated in the last general election. This was the people's opinion of voting against unfair and unconstitutional taxes. It is now time to get committees of citizens, tax experts and members of legislature and the judicial bodies of our state government together. The object would be to work out a fair tax for all. ' This will require the wisdom of Solomon under the policies of today's government officials and lawmakers. Never before have the people been led to believe these taxes were for their benefit, only tb find an unbreakable burden. Do not sit around waiting for the next fellow to write, especially women's organizations. Write now or you will be the slaves and your so called elected officials will be your masters. - Eugene J.
