B«tty Hetterraann t Wedding Bells Ring Out Last Saturday, May 4, found two young couples from this area repeating their marriage vows. Miss Phyllis Smith and Wally K a 1 e m b a of Lakemoor wei-e United in marriage at the 9:30 Mass in St. John's church. Their reception and dinner were held at the Johnsburg Community club hall. Many relatives ^iid friends joined in wishing the newlyweds happiness in the future. Upon their return from a honeymoon trip to Florida they, will reside in an apartment in the Tena Lay building. Our congratulatibns are extended to the new Mr^^and Mrs. Paul Hiller. Paul and the former Marge Rogers were wed in. Mc- 1 their family. Henry last Saturday. Their rc Bundle of Pink Mr. and Mrs. Carl Neiss welcomed their second child, a daughter born April 27 at the Woodstock hospital. The little Miss weighed 7 lbs. 8 oz. at birth and will answer to the name of Monica Lyon. She has a 3 year old brother Randy, who is quite impressed with her. Last Saturday evening. May 4, her daddy laid eyes upon her for the first time. Carl has just returned from California after serving two years in Uncle Sam's service. A 3-c Bill Huemann is stationed at Lowry Air Force Base and has been in service since October of last year. His parents, Vera and Joe, are looking forward to seeing him next month when Bill is due home for his first furlough. Hospital Notes Laura Schmitt was hospitalized In Woodstock for a few days last week where she underwent surgery on her back. Her neck is a little stiff but I'm sure she is on the mend. Mrs. Ford Jackson is in the McHenry hospital once again after being confined to a Chicago hospital last week. Everyone joins in the prayers of her family for a rapid recovery. Three year old Stevie King, grandson of Mrs. Mamie King, returned to his home in McHenry ^henftan hospital in Elgin. Stevie after spending four days in the Underwent surgery on his foot that has been giving him a little trouble lately. We hope all his troubles are behind him now. Mrs. Cora Herdrich was taken to a Chicago hospital where she is recovering from a bout with pneumonia. Mrs. Herdrich was siting her daughter and family, the Paul Boyks when she was taken ill. Mrs. Catherine Guzzardo was the victim of complete surprise dne evening last week, when a group of her lady friends showered her with gifts. The ladies called on Mrs. Guzzardo quite unexpectedly to honor her with a housewarming party. Mrs. Guzzardo recently moved into her new Home in Huntervilie. The group consisted of Marie Oeffling, Susie Oeffling, Martha Oeffling, Kathleen Oeffling, Harriet Morgan Louise Christman, Helen Keippel, Tillie Jerak, Anna Getner, Arlene Guzzardo and Anna Guyser. The ladies enjoyed a delicious lunch ahd Mrs. Guzzardo entertained them by playing the organ. Movies son, Mike Paul. Jim Daly and Jackie Brand went to the annual Kishwaukee D i s t r ic t Spring Campout of the Boy Scouts in Harvard. Although the weather was a little cool, the boys had one good time for themselves. Congratulations Corner The merry month of May finds quite a few of our folks celebrating birthdays and anniverseries. Mary Ellen Freund will observe her seventh Hirthday on May 8 while "Buddy" Smith and Patsy Meyers share May 13 as their natal day. "Buddy" will be seven and Patsy will turn six. Johnny Miller will turn two this month while Douglas Freund will have one candle on hie cake. May anniverseries are as follows. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Huemann and Mr. and Mrs. Wally Smith both have reason to celebrate this month. The Hettermanns' all share May as their "tie the knot" month. Rice Cream 3 tbsp. rice 2 cups milk 1 tbsp. gelatin soaked in 3 tbsp. cold water 1 cup cold milk 1 tbsp. sugar tsp. salt 1 tsp. vanilla 1 cup heavy cream whipped Scald milk, add washed rice, and cook in double boiler until rice is tender. Add gelatin, sugar salt, and cold milk. Mix thoroughly. Cool, add vanilla, fold m cream, mold or pile in dessert glasses. Serve with any sauce suitable for ice cream or, if in small glasses, pour over maple syrup and sprinkle with chopped nut meats, ^pfcrably pecans. Fred Schnorr, one of McHenry's pioneer settlers passed away at i his home on Main street May 5, at the age of 85. Mrs. Catherine Stilling, another pioneer settler, died May 3 at the age of 91 ye^rs. A nine pound daughter was welcomed in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Nerman last Sunday. Fred Mershon, former cashier at the Hoy banking company here, has recently written to McHenry friends from Boston where he is now at work. John Loditz informs us that he has just received word from his son, Percy, that he has enlisted in the United States Navy and that lie will be home for a few days before entering active service. He is now employed at St. Paul, Minn. Kirk Harrison has given up his position in Schneider Bi*os. meat market and is now employed at the Oliver typewriter factory at the county seat. On Waukegan street the Louis Althoff home is being remodeled and redecorated while at the corner of Waukegan street and Route 61 a new service station is being built by the Standard Oil company. Mr. and Mrs. Stephen H. Freund and Mr. and Mrs. Nick F. Freund were visitors in Stacyville, Iowa, last week, where they were called by the death of a nephew, John Miller, who was killed in an accident.
