Highland drive until the Fire - Community - house is completed. The clerk's hours are Monday and Thursday evenings, 6:30 to 8:30 and' Saturday afternoons from 1 to 4. The village meeting will be held this evening, May 9, at 8:30. Everyone is urged to attend this all important village function. Clean Up Campaign The village clean-up campaign is still with us and if you have not already cleaned up your property it would be very wise to do 60 very soon as the last large pick up of trash will be made op May 15. Remember that your yard shows your making. Let's all look really neat this year and make our village the beauty spot of the territory. It can be done but only with the co-operation of all property owners and tenants. This is your home. Why not make it homey? that from now on she is one of our voters. The L.I.A. is holding a card and bunco party on May 25, which shows promise of being quite an affair. The new officers for the term are; Nancy Godina, president, Virginia Roehr, scribe, and Sharon O'Leary, treasurer. The girls are at present working on their community service project for the McHenry hospital. Girl Scouts The call for leaders is still urgent and all mothers in the area are asked to consider their capabilities to find out if they might have the time to work in scouting After June 1, Mrs. Pat Morrison, troop-organizer, will endeavor to seek out th'e'wornen in the area who would like to take the training courses which will begin the latter part of August. Committee members are also urgently needed in this section, probably more so than leaders. Any women who believe they would like to do this sort of work and take the courses, but are afraid their young .children might hamper their opportunity may rest assured that arrangements have been made to care for your youngsters during the training courses. This a vital project in our district, and serious thought should be given it. Kindergarten Registration for fall kindergarten classes will be held at Edgebrook school on May 10 for all the children of this area who intend to start class in September. Registration will take place in the north kindergarten room from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Parents are asked not to accompany the children. To be eligible for kindergarten, children must be 5 years old on or before December 1 and a legal birth certificate must be presented at the time of registration. Hospital and baptismal certificates will not be accepted. Bus transportation is available for the young ones and information regarding same can be had through this reporter, phone 594-W-2. Socials Socials are held every week on Thursday evening at 8:30 at Wally's for the purpose of obtaining recreational facilities and providing quarters for community projects. Everyone is welcome to attend. Bridal Shower Miss Thelma Neff, future bride of Mrs. Kenneth Massheimer, was Village- Visitors Mr. and Mrs. Casey-Brzezinski attended the christening cf little Renee Para in Chicago last Sunday. Little Renee is the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Para. Guests in the home of A. J. Schmit this past weekend were Mr. and Mrs. William C. Schmit and John Herrmann and his mother, Mrs. Martha Herrmann. Village Guests Leave Mrs. M. B. Morrison and daughter Myrna who have been guests in the village and, staying at the C. F. McDermott home, left on Monday morning to make their home in Tcpeka, Kansas for a few years. It was indeed a pleasure to have their company here with us for a while and we all wish them the best of luck in their new home. We hope we shall hear from them from time to time. PEELING LICENSE PLATES REPLACED FREE BY COMPANY ^ ' Secretary of State Charles F. Carpentier announced that Hemp and Company of Macomb, manufacturer of the license plates, will replace free of charge any plate on which the paint is pdeling., Secretary Carpentier made the statement after a conference held with J. L. Hemp, president, and A. B. Scott, vice-president of the company. They informed him that laboratory tests revealed that the peeling was caused by a combination of the cleaning fluid used to prepare the metal and the metal content itself. ~ The tests indicate that the peeling is restricted .to 'front license plates In the even-numbered series beginning at 1,400,000 through 2,800,000 and is limited to the aluminum plates. Secretary Carpentier said he had received no' complaints of paint peeling on the steel-based license plates. Secretary Carpentier requested any motorist whose front plate is giving indication of peeling to write his office in Springfield giving the license number and the plate will be | replaced immediately. A post-card setting out the license number and the name of the owner will be sufficient, Mr. Carpentier said. The peeled plate must be destroyed after .the replacement has been received. J. L. Hemp pointed out that the plates will be replaced without cost to the automobile owner or the state, inasmuch as it is the responsibility of his company , to replace such defective plates. Hemp and Company have been the manufacturers of the Illinois license plates almost uninterruptedly since 1937. The firm says this is the first time it has experienced any trouble with paint peeling from the license. Buy U.8.
