M»r 29, K57* f McCullom Lake News By Eve Levesque 1 I 'v;1 ^ - .. --- I Veterans' Day ' This memorable day in the history of our country will be celebated with 1 solemn reverence at the Memorial Park at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday, May 30. The lineup for the parade will begin at 1 p.m. in front of 'the beachhouse. The drum and bugle corps of the McHenry chapter of the American Legion will lead off. Anyone wishing to march may do so- • t All Scouts are asked to appear in uniform and will bo given a place of honor in the line-up. Invocation will be delivered ;by the Rev. Burton Schroeder, minister of Nativity Lutheran church. Wonder Liake. Chryssie LevesQue will lead the pledge of allegiance to the flag. Our three \Var dead will be honored and * acknowledged by ( the «placing ' of one wreath on' the plaque. We have a beautiful memorial park honoring the veterans of all wars arid it should truly be an auspicious occasion. Organization and planning of __^the affair is to the credit of Theresa Schultz and Ole Olsen. Deepest sympathy To Mrs. Marie and Violet Elmer on the untimely death of husband and father, John C. Elmer, 63. He passed away in his sleep Thursday, May 23, at 5 a.m. It was his daughter's birthday. An inhalator squad was sum- 18, sponsored by tne Ladies of the Lake. The young ladies- have been practicing hard. We shall^fiaive a chance to see whether they have mastered their routines. Tickets may be obtained from any members of the women's organization. You'll be reading more about this, but reserve the date! Washed Away We're reiernng to the aches and pains that Marge and Helge Davidsen accumulated _ through our long and arduous winter. The Davfdsens motored to'Hot Springs, Ark., and took advantage of the healing baths. The first week of their vacation, it. rained so they availed themselves of the mineral baths. * The rest of|the time was spent sightseeing. On the return .trip they journeyed through the Ozar' mountains and were awed by beautiful scenery. Havfe You Seen The "new look" on the Ton; Hocin residence? Sally and Tony have spent many hours remodelling and modernizing the interior as well, and the entire result is "swellegant." already: established residence in, San Antonio and is thrilled with his new position. Enjoying dinner were Martha Wike, Ingeborg Olsen, Helen moned immediately but all efforts Schaefer, Louise Passal, Ruth to revive him failed Mr. l£}mer's health began fail-' ing about two years ago and at that time he placed himself in the hands of a specialist. The deceased was born Nov. 20, 1893, in Chicago. In 1919, he took for-his bride Miss Marie E. Klinke. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer have owned property out herp since th^ early '30s. Ill health forced him to re-' tire from his job as a janitor in the apartment building where he lived, and the Elmers moved to their country home. Mr. Elmer had a "green thumb" and was happiest when he was working in his garden. It was the hobby he most enjoyed. " The body was laid 'out at the George Justen funeral home until the services, which were held at 1 p.m. Saturday. TheRev. Burton Schroeder officiated. Interment was at Acacia Park in ChiCago. His only survivor^ were his wife and daughter. Surz, Betty Erickson, Lillian Busse and Theresa Schultz from the lake, and Lena Carbonaro and Lduise Kiddelson of McHenry. They spent the afternoon pilaying the game they most enjoy! Sorry To Hear That Mrs. Julia Hjecht was rushed to <Memapral\Kospital, Woodstock, in^an ambulance last week. We sincerely hope that by this writing, she is home again and on the "getting well" road! Our Condol^ncei To Louis Cozzi on the death of his mother, Mrs. Julia ^ozzi, 83. She passed away Thursday, May 16, and was buried in Mt. Carmel cemetery, Chicago. She was carried to her last resting place by Don Parenti and his three brothers.. x Pinochle Players Avid followers of this pleasant pastime include Irene Sales, Carrie Kurth, Mary Lekowitch, Lena Eckhardt, Louise Berquist, Marge Davidsen, „ Ethel Smith, Mary Byrnes and Edna Thorp. The women met at the home of Mrs. Ethel Smith in McHenry last week and had fun as always. Training Marge Beahler, Ann Brzezinski and Pat Morrison left at 3 p.m. Friday to take their adult outdoor training course. They returned, home around 10 a.m. Saturday <morrtihg. The training course started" several days- previus to the overnight camp-out. The village is very proud of the work these women and several others are doing for the betterment of our youth. Mr. Sajey ; graduating this yean and hais a real message for everyone. Daily , Vacation Bible school will be hekf at the Masonic building, Court street,"McHenry, from June 10 to June 21. The school starts at 9 a.m. and goes until noon, Monday through , Friday, for the two weeks' duration. Last week was erroneously stated that the D.V-.B.S. and Sunday School picnic Would be held on June 2. This was a mistake. The correct date for the picnic is June 29, the last Saturday of June. Friday Cotillion It was with tears in our eyes that we watched otir eighth graders make way for the cotillion on Friday evening. It is hard/to realize that those young people who went are fast growing into fine young adults.
