News ||| Rescue Squad Dance Saturday night, June 29, the Richmond rescue squad will hold & dance in the. town hall from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Tickets are on sale at the Richmond hardware store, at the Richmond Motor Sales or from any fireman. A Little Boy Mr. and Mrs. Jack Schmitt are toe parents of a boy, born June Vi at Xhe Woodstock hospital. Mrs. Schmitt is the forrrter Beverly Bergsma of Richmond. The little boy, who weighed in at 8 lbs. 6% oz., will be called David John. He will live with his daddy and mommy on the Schmitt farm near Spring. Grove. David's maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bergsma Of Richmond and his paternal andmother is Mrs. Schmitt of c< Henry. Graduation Awards ' At St. Joseph's graduation two awards were made. Diane Hora received one for perfect attend* ance at school. Jerry Pretzman rec^ye^;-one for being a faithful altar boy. Girl Scout Hike The Girl Scout troop plans to take a hike next Tuesday, Weather permitting. Birthdays Carol Steinke celebrated her birthday last* week Wednesday, and Bill Parker celebrated his last Thursday. Good Fellowship Group , The Good Fellowship group of the Community church will meet with Mrs. Ralph Wescott of Twin Lakes for their last meeting of the season Wednesday, June 26. The ladies will gather for a potluck luncheon at 12:30 p.m. Rummage Sale The women's council of the Community church will hold a rummage sale at the town hall on Saturday, July 20. Vacation Bible School This is the last week for vacation Bible school of the Community church. Many children gathered at the, church each day for classes, and many hours of volunteer teaching were spent to make the two weeks successful. ^ Confirmation Class Sunday, the Confirmation class of Grace church received Holy Communion for the first time. ere were eleven children in. the class this year. Now they are members of Grace church. Red Cross News Four people from Richmond attended the annual meeting of the McHenry chapter of the Red Cross. TTiey were Ben Winn, Rev. and Mrs. Ralph Noyce and Du- Wayne Sheldon. They were served a meal typical of that served "to disaster victims. It was a tasty meal of beef stew, comhread and honey. * The meeting was particularly interesting to Richmond since Richmond, Fox River Grove, Huntley and Crystal Lake were the four areas that made their fund drive quotas. Richmond sent in $1,011.05. Mr. Winn is the Richmond township chairman. • AlumniDinnerDance Saturday, the alumni of Richmond- Burton $ugh school and their guests gathered at the Hunter golf course dining rooih for their annual evening of dining and dancing. Dinner was delicious' fried chicken, preceded by tomato juice coclrail, and followed by apple pie. There were two servings of the dinner, one at 6 p.m. and one at 7 p.m. After dinner, a brief business meeting wds held. At that meeting officers for the coming year were elected: Evan Vogel, president, and treasurer is Charles Tilton, who was re-elected. Sorry we didn't catch the names of the other officers. Approximately 130 people attended the dinner and several more came for the dancing. „,, The room was bright and colorful, with all styles and kinds of dresses: The evening was just right for catching up on^ news of old friends and trying 'TO figure out who "so and so" is currently dating. Some of the oldsters were feeling their years after .a few rounds of polka music, but no one was the worse for wear and really seemed to enjoy even the strenuous dances." As it says in the song, "twas a perfect night for love." Cub Scout News The Cub pack met Monday, June 10, with Den 2 supplying the skit for the evening. They had a good one about fire prevention, the theme for the month of May. They worked under the leadership of Mrs. Harry Buthert and Mrs. Lou Burki; < Some of the CuU .scouts are grateful to Mrs. C&jhfc. Stewart, who helped them fias$ ohe of their achievements--naihely that about local history. She has lived' in .Richmond more years than anyone in town or' nearby' as .far as we know. She explained to the boys about the old mill (a grist mill) which her grandfather built. Mrs. Stewart was a member, of the first graduating class of the high school. The boys say "Hats off to Mrs. Stewart". Rotary News Last week, WaUy Kruse had charge of the program and had as his guest Mr. Chris from Waukegan, who talked about social security. He gave a lot of valuable information during his talk. The attendance was 100 percent last week. A1 Barbian from McHenry was a visiting Rotarian, while Elmer Knudson Was the guest of Harry Anderson. Salvation Army Doughnut Day Last Week, the Salvation Army Doughnut Day netted $78.24. Mrs. Carl Grant and Mrs. Rouen Duncan were co-chairmen. Twelve children collected the money. They were Barbara Waspi, Tom Lindbloom, Bill Swartzloff, Bob Goehring, Frank Hora, Paul Buchert, Ron Bergsma, Brad and' Greg Duncan, Jon Holmgren, Ken Townsend and Bill Hirn. Here afid There Mrs. Walter Skirikle recently returned from an Elgin hospital, where she underwent surgery. Mrs. Cora $tewart entertained Mrs. Kate Kilpatrick and her daughter-in-law last Monday. Mrs. Stewart and Mrs. Kilpatrick were classmates in the class of 1854 and are the only ones of that class living. Mrs. Stewart's guests came from St. Paul, Minn. Many of lis hope to read a book, or listen to a lecture on growing old gracefully, but with several good examples in our town,-especially of elderly ladies, we have spme good resources for a stiidy'of tHe problem. Miss Ruth Behrents, formerly of Solon Mills, was married recently to Mr. Solberg in Abbottsford, Wis. Mr. and Mrs. Solberg will make their home ^ on a Wisconsin farm. Ruth's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Einar Behrents, who were lohg time residents on the Overton farm. > , The Community Clovers 4-H club will hold a bake sale at the town hall Saturday in Richmond. Mrs. Robert Howe is feeling better after her stay in the Woodstock hospital last week. Rev. and Mrs/Ralph Noyce received word that they have a new granddaughter in California.
