Farewell Surprise Party The occasion for the party was a sad on£, but the party, as usual for Lakeland Parkers, was a boisterous one. It was a farewell party for Tom and Jetta Gleeson and many of their friends were on hand to wish them well in their new enrollment in Jolie^t. «, The guests of honor walked un- Slispectinjjly into the Legion hall, where an eager group of friends were waiting to surprise them. The looks on their faces left no doubt that they were truly surprised. Jetta was' presented with a dainty corsage of pink and white daisies and even Tom was%iven a boutonniere. Dancing began immediately and flAnded only when the musicians Teft. Music of Ray Anthteiy, Les Brown and other miscellaneous talent was provided by Joe Cina and his hi-fidelity recordings, player and speakers. Firjst prize for outstanding talent on thp darice floor was awarded to Ffa^k Bartos. Outstanding talent at the bar ended in a seven-way tie. After midnight, the crowd tested on, tasty ham, potato chips, etc. 4^md a beautifully decorated cake. When the musicians went home the singers took over. They eventually reached some semblance of harmony on "Let the Rest of the World Go By" and retired gracefully at their jieak with "Auld Lang Syne." Two lines formed spontaneously as the boys kissed Jetta goodbye and the girls did as well by Tom. Then the party broke up, as always, reluctantly. Jetta's Note--The party was lovely!! Fnrwell Dinner The bridge club put cards away for Thursday evening and went out for a delicious dinner at the Country club. A farewell toast WHi Maybe they aren't meant to be, but a birthday party for youngsters sometimes seems like a circus! So--why not start with that idea, and plan a circus theme for youir very next young-fry occasion? For this a "drum" filled with crunchy flaked coconut confections is an attractive and simple-to-make centerpiece. Simply paste bands of colored paper or ribbons around a tin box. Add clown figures, gay glass£B, pretty napkins, and the table is ready. Have plenty of ice cream, a pitcher of ice cold milk (flavored if desired), extra cookies to refill the drum and the party's on! Couldn't be simpler or more effective. Party Cakes 1% cups tender-thin flaked coconut % cup finely cut dates % cup finely cut walnuts ( % teaspoon grated lemon rind """ % cup sweetened condensed milk Combine ingredients in order given and mix thoroughly. Pack in' greased 10x5x3-inch loaf pan. Bake in moderate oven (375" F.) 26 minutes. When cold, cut in 1-inch squares. Wrap in waxed paper, if desired. Makes 32 squares. **126 winners (believe it or not) were thethtee newcomers, namely Mary, Evelyn and Gertrude. 'Fortunately, no one mentioned calories when the refreshments Were servd, so they all indulged in luscious Cakes, topped with ido cream and drank many cups of coffee.
