Pag* Fin FIND NO CLUES TO IDENTIFY BABY LEFT IN CHURCH No clues had been found by mid-week as to the identification of a twelve-day-old, brown haired baby boy found abandoned in Sacred Heart Catholic church in Marengo Friday afternoon by the parish housekeeper, Catherine Devine. It is believed the mother left the child, fully clothed, after the last Mass Friday morning. Bottles of fprmula were left with the infant and instructions as to the feeding. The birth date was given as July 1. Witli the baby was a four and one-half page note pinned to the clothing, telling that the father had left a month before the baby's birth because he didn't care for children. The note- continued by stating that both parents are college graduates and professional people. It continued, "This is the hardest thing I have ever. dorie^Ltl^-- and the church was the only place that I wanted to leave him," she added that she was of the Catholic faith but that her husband was not., The sheriff's office had hoped to learn the identity through the possibility that someone saw them enter the church.
