Another Beauty Contest The Wonder Lake Legion post will conduct^# contest to determine the king and queen of the Lake, in conjunction with their picnic Saturday an<* Sunday, Aug. 24 and 25. The beauty contest will be limited to babies up to the age of 18 months and will take place Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. the 25th. The picnic will be held on the grounds next to LaGrecca's Lake View Inn. there will be games of all kinds, pony rides for the youngsters, refreshments, etc. All babies 18 months and under are invited to enter the contest. Canasta Group Met The McHenry .hospital auxiliary card'unit No. 1 met, Thursday, July 25. at the home of Mrs: Victor Milbrandt. A delicious dessert and coffee, were served preceding -the canasta game. Those playing were: Mesdames John Neuharth, George Reiser, Leon Switzer, Victor Milbrandt, Elizabeth Munson, Lillian McCarthy, Dorothy O l s e n , and V a l e s k a Hoppe. High scores were made by Mrs. Reiker and Mrs. Switzer. Six dollars was turned in to the auxiliary. The next party will be given by Mrs. Munson. Wooded Shores Picnic A twenty-five mile pigeon race will be the feature of the afternoon at the Wooded Shores association annual picnic held Sunday August 11, from 1 to 10 p.m. at the subdivision park and beach. t The public is cordially invited to join in the fun; there will be boat rides, games, fish poinds for the children, good food, and fun for all. Sailboat Race A1 Sinden's "Blue Jeans" came in first in the race Sunday, July, 28, on Wonder Lake. Second was Lee Strom's "Billy Lee," third was "Fancy Pants" sailed by Hal Georgeson. and fourth was "Wet Pants" sailed by Peter Georgeson. "Wet Pants" was in the lead when almost at the finish line she was becalmed by. a fluke in the wind and the three boats passed her. The6 lead changed several times during the race which was an exciting one all the way through. Next Sunday, August 4, is the switch boat race. Hobby Club Meets The Hobby Twelve met at the home of Mrs. John Neuharth. Tuesday, July 23, for a session of sewing. This group' which has been organized for two years has a membership limited to twelve for the convenience of entertaining in the home. They strive to bring new craft ideas to each meeting and share them with the other members. The hostesses served a novel ice cream rolled in carmeled corn flakes and coffee. Ladies attending were the Mrs. Ralph White, Arthur Hoppe, Lyle Bassett. Charles Kopp. Lester Bacon, Joseph Waynne, Ed Muchow, Howard Maxwell Leon Switzer and Eva Eppel. The club will soon start on Christmas gift ideas. July 23, at the Legion home for the purpose of installing the new 57-58 officers. Lois Weeks, past commander presided over the meeting as installing officer with the capable assistance of Robert Kiddell, also past commander as installing sergeant at arms. The newly installed officers are Jim Widen, commander; Jim Kinzie, senior vice commander; Dick Kelley, junior vice commander; Phyllis Lincoln, chaplain; A1 Franz, sergeant at arms; -Chuck Miller, house chairman; Dan Pottef and Lois Weeks, executive committee. These officers will take their duties as of the opening day of the state convention in Chicago, Aug. I. Wonder View Community House Mrs. Leonard Rose, secretary of the Wonder View Improvement association announced that plans for the community house are going ahead, that the monies already collected for the project are held in escrow, at the bank, and that as soon as sufficient funds have been raised to meet the lowest bid, work will start on the project. Business Changes Hands ' Emil Malchleb of Delavan, Wis., is the new owner of the Rolaine Grill, which he purchased from Mrs. William Tonkin. His son and daughter-in-law, Don and Marlene, have been living in Wonder Center for three and a half years. Girl Scout Calendar Six Wonder Lake girls will see their Girl Scout dreams come true August 1 when they leave for Rotary McQueen camp for twelve days of rugged outdoor living. This Girl Scout camp is located just outside of Kirkland. Scouts attending are Janet Schimke, Jo Ann Kline, Lynn Gustavson, Mary Jane Gillis, Judy Lange and Sharon Sinclair. Mrs. George Rink and Mrs. Sinclair are currently attending first aid classes in McHenry in order to be of further help to the Girl Scouts of Wonder Lake. This is. the regular summer communion and it will not be given again until world communion Sunday on October 6. The sermon topic for this Sunday is, "The Grace of God." Reports will be made on the four newly organized committees and plans will be made for the members to attend the state convention of the United Lutheran church women at Rockford on September 19 through the 21. The summer evangelism visitation is now being carried on among prospective members of the church. Thursday, August 8, at 7:30 p.m. a gospel team made up of students from various colleges will conduct the entire evening service which our young people are sponsoring to help support a youth conference to be held in the church in October. Next Sunday, August 4, will be Communion Sunday. Mothers with little children can attend the morning church service and bring children, to the nursery which'fe, provided.
