PISTAKEE HIGHLANDS by Wanda Dobedd j^.The election of association officers took place last night at the community meeting at the center. We'll have the results for you in next week's column so watch for the details then. ~ attend and try to bring a neighbor that is interested. - I think all the retiring officers deserve a big hand for the great job they have done in the past year. They have worked hard and have made wonderful progress in cl short time. Our past president, Kay Novotny, devoted many hours of time he cpuld have spent at home to get new projects and new committees started. The same is true for all of the officers. They have made their mistakes and learned from them as we all have done who have worked on any, committees. Our thanks for a job well done to ail of them and gll the committees and councilmen ^3^'bo have worked so hard for. the good of the community. It is these kind of volunteer workers who work with no pay and little reward, who deserve our sincere appreciation. Councilmen I think all of the block captains (or councilmen) have been electr ed' now. Some sections that were m>t able to get any volunteers for Ais job will just be 'without the services of a block captain in the future unless one is elected. This is definitely a service to the community (and we think an important one) and it is just too bad that some people are not willing to take their turn at helping out. There may be some important community matters to* vote on soon and the best way to get every one represented is through block Captains. Here is a complete list of the block captains elected in their sections: Hazel Morley, Betty Warczak, Jerry Kolb. Mr. Ristow, Mrs. Betts, Marie Schlick, Dot Haynpr, Blance Haefliger, Lorainne Ullo and Toots Spanuch. More will be added in the near future. P.TJL There will be an executive meeting of the officers and chairmen of the PTA on Sept. 10 at 8 p.m. at Mrs. Fisher's. « Worship Senice Sept. 22 at 7:30 is the time set rbr the first worship and discus- Sjon group to be held at the center here in the Highlands. Everyone interested in having a church or Sunday School here is, urged to attend. Harland Shaw "trom the Ingleside Methodist church will be the speaker for the evening. Please Down Meadow Lane Hazel Morley, Kay Sielisch and Kay's mother-in-law, Clara Sielisch, were guests of Hazel's mother, Mrs. Puckey, in Wildwood one day last week. They enjoyed a wonderful home cooked turkey dinner with the trimmings and a grand time was had by all. It' sounds as if the Mrs. Puckey is a pretty wonderful hostess. Dot and Lotfis Tomao picked up his mother and sister at O'Hare field last week so they could come and spend v a while with the Tornaos. His sister, Angie, will be the honored godmother , at the Christening of little Madelyn Eileen. Robert Minto, recently discharged from the Navy, is making his home with his sister, Betty Warczak, and her husband. The Warczaks recently entertained Kay Sielsch and spouse, Wally, and his mother. Betty served delicious barbecued spare ribs with all the trimmings and as Tennessee Ernie says, "it sounds licken good." Three more new homes are going up down Meadow Lane way. What used to be a pretty sparsely populated area is soon going to be booming. Maybe it won't be such a long walk to see a neighbor now. Everyone on Meadow Lane misses Gordon Rzechula, who has left for the service in the army. His collie has helped make up for the loss in the .household by having nine puppies! The Louis Toraos had numerous guests Sunday, Sept. 1. Little Madelyn Eileen was christened at St. Peter's in Spring Grove. Herbert and Jonel Shively have returned from the vacation in Kentucky and have brought Jonell's mother back with them to visit here for awhile. Now it's back to work for the Shiveleys. Hie Brills , have nearly completed the interior of their home on Meadow Lane. Despite all the work they like it very much here. We're Sorry that we forgot to announce the very important arrival of Cindy Lou'Sarver, who arrived in this world on Aug. 8, weighing" 6 lbs. and 6 oz. The proud parents, Gene and Laverne Sarver, were happy with the new little girl and think she is just about the greatest thing on earth. We are very sorry we neglected to mention little Cindy Lou earlier. Our apologies Cindy. The Stork also stopped at the Pfingston house and left a little pink bundle labeled Lori Anne, who weighed 6 pounds 9 ounces. Mother Terry is doing fine and so is little Lori. Ed's sister, Rae Pfingston, is stay-, ing with them for awhile to help out with the new little arrival and with big brother Mark. Mark is quite impressed with his new little sister and has decided, he would like to keep her. Around The Highlands Congratulations to the Peloquins, who are celebrating their twenty-first anniversary this week on Sept. 5. Chances are Jane has talked father into splurging for a night out. The Kolbs are missing their cat. She is 9 years old and. quite a family pet and if anyone has seen her they would very much appreciate her return. She is al! white with a black tail. If you have seen her please call 697-M-l. Bill Skinner is enjoying his vacation in California. He is spending about a month there visiting with friends. The Cohrs have been in a social whirl lately with entertaining relatives. The Dowds had a Sunday outing last weekend when they and their offspring took off for a family picnic in River Grove. They had a wonderful day and enjoyed every minute of it. We send our best wishes a little late to Wayne Heir, who Was 8 on Aug. 24. We hope he had a very happy day and lots more to follow. It's kind of nice to see those shining faces file down the road to catch the school bus; Most of the mdthers are very relieved and most of the children you wouldn't recognize as the same muddy, suntanned, blue-jeanned kids we've seen romping all summer.,. It's surprising the transformation the little darlings can make. about two hours for the teams toithat people loaned for our use. If bowl. There will also be a list anyone knows the'whereabouts of of substitutes that would just be any of these, don't call Jack Webb able to bowl once in awhile and not every week. The first night will be on Sept. 9 at 9 p.m. If you would like to join the league, just call Marilyn Van Zevern, 2695, and she will sign you up. It sounds like lots of fun. Welcoim To the Zeman family< who #ist moved in receritly at 211 Lucina street. We hope they like it here in the Highlands and that as .soon as they catch up on all the-decorating work that they can x:ome out to some of our meetings and parties to get acquainted with all Of US. v-;: ,'v, Cake Cutefa ' It seems that Agatha* street has a priority on the people celebrating birthdays this month. Janet Peloquin will be 13 on Sept. 10. We hope she has a very nice day and congratulation^"*® becoming teenager. V Her neighbor, Dan fcinami, is also celebrating his birthday on the tenth and even vthough we don't know his age, we wish him the best of everything on this and e v e r y d a y . " 4 - * Happy birthday to another neighbor on Agatha, Bob Beamer. The Van Zeverns had a big family party in honor of Mark, who will be just four on Sept. 4. His parents will be entertaining his grandparents as well his great grandparents. His party will be complete with cake, ice cream and lots of presents tq make his eyes light up from- all thbse proud grandparents. Bowling A local league has been started this year again and there are still six openings for those who are interested in rolling that black ball once a week. The time is Mondays at 9, and it usually takes Missing There are still quite a few items missing since the picnic. In the confusion, when the . rains came, it is easy to see how some could be misplaced but now the weeks are passing and some items still have not been located. There is a glass coffee maker missing, spoons, cake pans, plastic glasses and other miscellaneous things but give me a ring and we'll see if we can get them ireturned to the right people. Girl Scouts Only two leaders from the Highlands entered the training class for leaders for the Girl Scout program and they were Marilyn Vanzevern and Harriet Wilson. It seems too bad that for the size of our oommunity we had only two representatives while the other subdivisions seemed very well represented. We need Scout leaders badly, both trained and untrained, and are still asking for help if there are still some who interested in this kind of work. It also seems too bad with so many girls interested in scouting that so few showed up and Marilyn happens tp be the mother of two boys. The investiture for leaders, was held last Friday in the McHenry high school for all those trained for the coiiling season. ;IH rl Surprise! ewcomers to our dommunity (Continued on Page 12) TOTS & TEENS LOCATED IN JOHNSBURG ACROSS FROM THE BOWLING RESORT PHONE McHENRY 1908 SUMMER CLEARANCE SALE STARTING FRIDAY.
