Recommended by - road commissioner Ed Hammerstein, trustee Don Parenti will be working on repairs and patching of roads. As a result of a special police meeting which was attended by the majority of the village board members, Anton Hocin was appointed to the police force to fill in the vacancy left by Gregory Burg. Village ordinance No. 25 referring to house and lot numbering for the purpose of postal delivery was read and passed. More details on this as they become available. The next meeting will be held Monday, Sept. 9 at 8 p.m. in the beachhouse. Fitting Tribute When the news of chum Bill Jensen's' uniimely death reached their ears, our 'teen agers discussed what they could do to honor his memory. As a result of that discussion, on Wednesday night, Judy Hocin, Phyllis Piotrowski. Donna DeMar, Dennis Straumann, Jack Osterby* and Don Hayes drove to the Jensen home in rural Richmond and presented the family with a card and a sum of money, to be used as they saw fit for a fitting memorial to Bill's memory. The young people were not prompted by any of the adults. It was strictly their own idea. Truly a fitting tribute to a young lad whose ideals for clean living made such a vivid impression on the young folks. The outdoor sports event was held' when surgery is scheduled, at the Fielddaie Gun Club, in I and X-rays and the usual ground- Roselle. . J work had to be done first. - In all, 110 prizes were offered, A lonesome gal, so far from the all silveV! Winners and second' home environment would Surely place contestants in each event appreciate a word or card from walked off with the.;loot. "Bear"-ly Survived! Eleanor, Bill, and "Ronnie Creutz can hardly call their recent Canadian vacation uneventful! - . During their stay at a camp in English River, Ontario, they returned to their lodgings to find the place had been taken over by a huge black bear! Mr. Bruin was squatting calmly on his haunches on the front porch, licking his chops after consuming a healthy meal of a quart of milk, nine hard boiled eggs and the plastic wrapper which contained them, a few pounds of lard, and several other tasty food products. Looking like the formidable adversary that he was, Bill thought I better of tangling with the crea-1 ture of the wild and called the lodge keeper. A couple of well aimed shots, put the "thief" out of business -- forever!! The Creutzes regret only the fact that they didn't retain his head and hide for a souvenir. Bill and Ronnie caught the limit in game fish which Eleanor prepared as fast as husband and son hauled them in. The entire trip added up to 2,072 miles door to door, and many fine memories! Can You Blame Them? . If you saw the picture on the society page of last week's Plaindealer of Miss Patricia Blaney, you can. hardly blame Mr. and Mrs. Anton Hagel for the pride they exhibit in their granddaughter. This fair -young lady, beautiful enough to win a Miss America contest, and has a few laurels in that department, has decided to give up all for LOVE! The man of her choice is a Mc- Henry boy, Mr. Thomas E. Hogan of McHenry Shores. Our sincerest wishes for a long and happy marriage to this fine young couple who will join their future lives in the fall. Enterprising Youngsters "Little Red Riding Hood" was never so dramatically presented as it was at the hands of Linda and Darcy Watson and two of the Schloffner girls, Donna and Linda, on Monday, Aug. 26. Donna Schloffner also doubled in the capacity of producer. For one whole week before the "spectacular" was presented the little gals circulated around the community selling tickets for one penny! , The production opened with the Star Spangled Banner, followed by the main event, the play. "Yoho- ho" was sung by the entire cast and the program ended with "My Country, "Tis of Thee". The girls certainly cannot be accused of being unpatriotic! The young audience .certainly received their money's worth, for each was presented with a penny biag of "Jolly-aid". This, no doubt, was to help the youthful group to keep from starving to death! Cute idea and worthy of a plug, rne thinks. impresslva Background Barbara Thacker's girl friend, Miss Anna Wagner, succumbed to the lures of matrimony in spite of all her wedded friends' predictions that she preferred her career. Because of her mother's death only two month's previous, the bride and her groom, Mr. Robert Vogt joined hands in a quiet ceremony at the Northwestern university chapel in Chicago. The bride is a graduate of this institute of higher learning. The reception, wnich Barbara and Chuck attended on Saturday, Aug. 24 was held at the Tarn O' Shanter" Country Club. The former Miss Wagner has an impressive scholastic background. In addition to the usual college work, she taught in Germany for two years, and is now teaching in Champaign. Mr. Vogt is currently attending the University of Illinois where the couple resides. all of her friends. The above address is the best we can do until further details are forthcoming. Your prayers for her well-being will be the GREATEST!! Any Excuse Will Do! For a party amongst the nice group of people that dwell in the Hickory Drive area. Happy to have their new siding job finished, Mayda and Gene Shigley derided to carve a turkey for the event. The shin-dig grew to gigantic proportions. All the well-wishers gathered in the Fred Eckhardt back yard, bearing a "pot to pass". Some of the most delicious concoctions were contributed to the pot luck dinner, including Lena Eckhardt's own fabulous cooking. Among those breaking bread together were the Shigleys, Eckhardts, Elsie and Clayt Nelson, Harriet McNamara, Pearl and Win Pietsch, Albert Walker of Palatine, Helen Anedrson of Chicago, and Edward Streun of Chats- ; worth. After dinner music was furnished by Pearl and Win Pietsch while a special, terpsichorean feat was executed by those masters of the art, Mayda and Gene Shigley. Dancing with Gene is like "dancing on a cloud!" A wonderful way to cement community spirit, wouldn't you say? Modern Transportation! This is truly one for the books! "Big" Bob Kantorski finally made 't home from Cleveland about 9:30 p.m. Friday night. The trip from that eastern city was made in less than two hours, a distance of about 300 miles. No less than FIVE hours was needed to transport the guy from Midway airport to our own hamlet!! By the time he travelled downtown, got a train to Crystal Lake, mucho hours had elapsed. Good fellows, "Bud" Cable and Bill Sheehan risked the "hazardous" journey to Crystal Lake and brought him back alive! No one happier than ma and pa, Mary and Jake Kantorski to have son Bob home for Labor Day. Sorry To Hear That Mrs. Charlotte Graydon, a summer resident went through quite a siege of hepatitus recently. She was hospitalized at Michael Reese in Chicago. Currently, she and husband Frank are enjoying a sojourn in their relaxing home in the village so that Charlotte can regain her strength. We have no doubt that Mrs. Graydon will recuperate rapidly in her friendly surroundings. Practically Commuters Will, "Tessie," and Lynne Schultz must know every curve and bend in the road - between here and Ollie, Iowa. They returned last week from a short stay with Aunt Lil and Uncle Bill Norris of that metropolis. This is a trip _ they have made quite frequently this year. The Norrises receive so much pleasure from the company of these three. P.S. Lynne enjoyed the one day swimming trip. Serious Woes Mrs. Dorothy Frisby "ain't" happy with good reason. After undergoing major surgery last November, she received the unhappy news that a further operation is necessary. She and husband Bob (better A Bit Of Old Venice 'The new drainage and ditching program which will be underway shortly,,.is not without its trials and complications.
