W. arid Jessie Smith, born, May 31, 1902, on the family homestead .near Ringwood. On Dec. 29, 1940, she was married to Andrew Hawley. Mrs. Hawley had a host of friends in this community, acquired since the time she attended the Ringwood school and graduated from the local high school in 1921. Later, she attended both DeKalb and Normal colleges before embarking on a teaching career in the county which continued for thirty-three years. She was an expert horsewoman and as a young woman rode the show horses of Alexander Lumber company in exhibition. Besides her husband, she is survived by a sister, Mrs: Lyle Ifop- .per, of Chicago; three brothers, Ralph Smith of Rice Lake, Wis., Lonnie Of Pistakee Bay and John on the home farm. The body rests at the Peter M. Justen & Son funeral home until 1:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon, when rites will be held at the Ringwood church, followed'by burial in Ringwood cemetery. Thomas Mercure Tnomas Mercure, 49, of Lilymoor died Saturday eve'ning, Sept. 7, in Memorial hospital Woodstock, after a brief illness. He was a native of Thomaston. Mich., where he was born Feb. 29, 1908, but had resided in this area for the past eleven years. The deceased was a tool and die maker for the International Harvestercompany in Melrose Park. Locally Be was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church, the Knights of Columbus and the Loyal Order of Moose. Mr. Mercure was devoted to a large family who deeply mourn his passing. They include the widow, Rita; nine children, Johfi of San Diego, Calif. Darreld of Chicago and Mrs. Carol Ketchum. Gilbert. Dolores, Rosemary, Richard, Donald and Eugene, all of McHenry; two grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Flora Brophy, of Detroit, Mich.; and a brother, M. Sgt. Alphonse Mercure of New Mexico. A requiem Mass was sung Wednesday morning at 9:30 o'clock from St. Mary's church, with burial in the church cemetery. RESIGNATION OF FARM ADVISER GENE BROWN TOLD Farm Adviser Gene Brown has announced his resignation, effective in October, after being active in the county extension servifo program since 1952. He has headed it since 1956. Brown will join the staff of the National Farm Equipment Institute, where he will be doing public relations work -and assisting in the application of new research information to the manufacturers of new equipment. Only last month, Assistant Farm Adviser Don Chestnut resigned to enter private business. The farm adviser's post may be filled by William Tammeus upon his return from India in February of next year. It is understood that he has been offered the position for the duration of his contract, to June 30, 1958, in accordance with a 1956 arrangement. MISS DONNA ADAMS WED SATURDAY TO LOWELL ANDE^ON Miss Donna Adams became the bride of Mr. Lowell Anderson in one of the early fall weddings solemnized in this vicinity on Saturday, Sept. 7, at St. John's Catholic church, Johnsburg, at 9:30 o'clock. The bride is the daughter of Mi's. Arthur Adams of Johnsburg and the groom is the son of Mrs. Lo&is Stephey of Woodstock and Alvin Anderson. Rev. Fr. Blitsch, officiated at the service in a church beautifully decorated with bouquets of mixed glads on the main altars and white glads on the altar of the Blessed Virgin. The attractive bride was charming in a white imported lace dress, with a chapel length train of lace and pleated nylon. It featured a v-neckline and stand-up collar. Her crown of lace, trimmed with seed pearls and sequins, held a fingertip veil and she carried a bouquet of. stephanotis centered with white roses. She was given in marriage by her brotlxer, Ronald Adams. Acting as matron of honor was Mrs. Joann Miller, a close friend, who was attired in a toast colored peau de sOie crystalette gown, ballerina length, styled with scoop neckline, full skirt and bow and streamer in back. Her matching headpiece of feathers was trimmed with pearls and net and she carried a basket of gold pom poms, gold bows and foliage. Her jewelry was a pearl necklace and earrings, gifts of the bride. Her bridesmaid was Miss Gerry Thompson, another friend, who wore a similarly styled gown in green and carried a basket -of bronze pom poms and foliage. Twin cousins of the bride, Cathy and Christie Michels, were junior bridesmaids, attired in gowns of melon and turquoise, respectively. Both carried baskets of bronze pom poms with foliage. Mykell Freund, cousin of the bride, acted as a junior attendant, appealing much like a miniature bride. She was attired in a gown of white, similar in style to those of the adult attendants, and with headpieces and bouquet fashioned like the bride. Carl Ullrich served as best man, the groomsmen was James Hanschman, and Eugene Nett and Joel Adams, cousins of the bride were ushers. For the wedding, Mrs. Adams chose a rose-colored lace dress with brown and rose accessories and a corsage of white glads and rosebuds. / At the reception, she wore a beige sheath with brown accessories Mrs. Stephey was attired in a rose sheath dress, rose accessories and ha<}\a similar corsage. A breakfast for thirty-five members of the bridal party and the immediate families was served at the Johnsburg Community hall, fbllowed by a reception for 300 after 5 p.m. The couple will be at home at 103 Main street, McHenry, after a honeymoon trip through the North. The new Mrs. Anderson graduated in 1954 from the local high school and has been employed at the McHenry State bank. The groom, who served four years in the Navy, is an employee of the Die Mold & Mfg. company in Woodstock. News About Oar Servicemen Pvt. James Boger recently graduated from his eight weeks of basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. He is spending a thirteeh- day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Boger. He will return to Fort Riley; Kas. Privates Agostino G. Unti, Jr.. and Howard I. Useman of McHenry, are scheduled to complete eight weeks of basic combat training Sept. 7 under the Reserve Forces Act program at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. Both soldiers attended Northern Illinois University at DeKalb. Marine Pfc. Alfred H. Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph J. Miller of 107 Washington street, McHenry, completed four weeks of individual combat training Sept. 6 at the Marine Corps base, Camp Pendleton, Calif. Pvt. Gilbert T. Mercure, son of Mrs. Thomas-L. Mercure, McHenry, Illinois, completed eight weeks of basic combat training Sept. 7 under the Reserve Forces act program at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. Mercure was graduated from Bradley university in 1957 and is a member of Sigma Phi Epsillon and Omicron Delta Kappa fraternities. Four Others Hurt Four young people received minor injuries when their car was bumped in the rear by another vehicle on Rt. 12, near Volo, Sunday night. The autos were driven by Ray Bryant, 17, of Ingleside dnd Emmitt Barts of Chicago. The Barts car was reported to have run into the other auto on a hill. Three others in the Bryant car besides the driver were hurt. Third Accident Three cars were involved in the third accident on Rt. 12, north of Voloi Henry, Krause of Chicago stopped in traffic in preparation for making a left turn and Lee W. , Marquardt of Chicago stopped behind.
