"Susie"; and "D.G." sorely miss their playmate. satisfied at the Miss Jeani No Quorum Since an insufficient number of people--only twelve were present --the Cullom-Knoll association held no meeting on Sunday, Sept. 1. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held Sunday, Oct. 6 at 2:30 p.m. in the beachhouse. Back In Session 'Let's hope It croesm continue-- the cold .weather, we mean--but with the advent Of fall; all organizations are back "in the swing". The Ladies of the Lake will meet tonight, Thursday, Sept. 12, at 8 p.m. in the beachhouse. This organization is open to ALL women of the community. If you have jtfst moved into the village, this is a wonderful way to meet your neighbors. See you tonight?- raised by the beautiful, willowy, blonde who spent her vacation at the home of Betty and George Baumbeck recently. The lovely gal is George's niece, Miss Dawn Baumbeck of Chicago. According to city standards, things are a bit quiet out here on Saturday nights! During her stay, Dawn made two trips a day to McHenry hospital to visit with her date companion, Kenneth Thompson. Seems as though he became ^entangled with the boat which was towing him on water skis. Mr. Thompson ended up second best--and IN* the' hospital, severely .injured. The young recover rapidly, and we're hoping Kenneth will suffer no permanent injuries. Thirty Two Layers (Of delicious cake with yummy filling between each one and beautifully decorated* composed the cake that Mrs. Katie Lennert baked'for her grandson's w&dding on Saturday, Aug. 31. Miss Anne Augusti became the bride of Mr. Joe Buri, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Buri, at Queen of Angels church, Chicago. "Something old" was the lovely white wedding gown supplied by the granddaughter of the Lennerts, Mrs. Kathy Wolf, the bride's best friend. She also wore an illusion veil and crown headpiece. Miss Augusti's sister served In the capacity of matron-of-honor while the groom's brother, George Jr., was the best man. The other attendants were Kathy and Fred Wolf, of Chicago. The bride was given in marriage by her future father-in-law, Mr. George Buri. A reception for seventy-five guests was held at the Buri home, which Katie and Tony Lennert . attended. The newly united couple will have to postpone their honeymoon until the bridegroom gets his regular furlough, since they were married on a three day pass. The groom reported back to his base at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. the day after the wedding. He is getting ready to be shipped to Germany for duty with the Army there. The brand new Mrs. Joe Buri plans to join her husband as soon as. circumstances and "red tape" will allow. Kittens, Anyone.? Eleanor and Ken Ebey have plenty available and will donate any or ALL of their unlimited supply! Not even owning a cat, of their own, one of the feline "critters" crawled under their house and deposited two babies. As if this wasn't enough, another expectant mother cat made her way into the Ebey garage and promptly left six kittens in a, nail keg! Two mothers and eight children are more than Eleanor can cope with--hence, the plea for foster parents! They make such lovely pets for the youngsters. Feel free to call Eleanor and place your order!! Congratulations To editor and publisher Art Stuhlfeier on the first anniversary of his McCultom Lake newsletter, Sept. 1, and to his staff which supplies the material. One article which will probably never appear in it, however, is the current battle which Art is losing--strictly for (and by) the birds!! Art is more than a little vexed with his fine feathered friends which are holding a convention . in the tree alongside his driveway. His car washing bills are tremendous! Bet his newly purchased vehicle is covered with a tarp every night! But these fellows met with better luck. Over, the Labor Day weekend, Don Fluger, Pete Nersted, Bill Reid, and Don Hayes drove up to the home of Pete's parents' cottage near Hayward, Wis., for a fishing trip. Their efforts for the first two days- were fruitless; but on the last day, they were rewarded. They mailaged to snag about a dozen fish which they divided amongst the four of them. The *rip and just "getting away from it all" was well worth the journey. Filling "The Babe's" Shoes Miss Cynthia Rourke, a former resident of the community, now r<?sidi|ig in Edgebrook Heights is making rapid strides as an up and coming golf woman. Last week, this 'teen 'age mis§, passed up all other competition to win the-trophy in the junior division. Needless to say, her best friend and severest critic, father Frank, is pleased as punch with his young protege! Good going, sis! No Reunite!! ' The freezer at Berenice and i Whitey Bjork's home is strangely empty. No northerns, pike, or even pan fish nestle cozily inside!! The fishing trip which Whitey, "Snowball" Perske, Roy Kriling and son, Dick, planned so enthusiastically, resulted in dismal failure. In spite of a well chosen location, wonderful equipment, and much enthusiasm on the part of the fishermen, NOTHING happened. They still can't figure out who warned the "denizens of the deep". So it wouldn't be a total loss, the quartet rested and shopped for souvenirs to bring home. Berenice's comment-- "Everything is back under control. Whitey's home!" ' ? What's For Excitemfent? . This question was pertinently End of an Era "Blackie" Vycital who has been, a part of the local scene for about fourteen years, has passed into history. Because of his advanced years, the big black dog never heard the car which approached and hit him. Elaine Vycital Nelson and brother Donnie rushed him to Dr. Fike's in McHenry, but it was too late. Blackie was almost Two Warnliigs Have been issued by the police department. First and most important-- is the fact that drivers are passing the school busses while the children are boarding them in the morning and getting off in the afternoon. This is a violation of the state law, and offenders will be prosecuted. The second warning has to . do with property owners who have placed huge rocks beyond their lot lines and into the street easement. These stones must be moved back to their proper place. For the well being of all concerned, we sincerely hope no further commeni on these two violations is necessary. New Grandparents It is with pride that Helene and Max Kolin announce the arrival of another grandchild in their rapidly growing family. Maureen Sue was born to Mrs. and Max Kolin, Jr., of Arlington Heights, on Tuesday, Sept. 3„ at Resurrection hospital, Chicago. The little miss weighed in at 6 lbs., 3 oz. and according to her grandmother, sh2 is "just beautiful"! The Koliris have another reason for being proud. Their daughter, Mrs. Eileen Chapin, also of Arlington Heights was chosen as a "Welcome Wagon" hostess over 160 other candidates. A complete spread on Eileen's activities will appear in the Midwest section of the Chicago Sun Times this Sunday. Her guests included Elaine Heffel, Gail Parks, Ronnie Parks, Danita and, Donnie Tomasello,,- Mickey Reid, Bobby and Jimmy Doran, and "Peanuts" Tomasello. A beautiful birthday cake, potato chips, pop, and hamburgers were consumed with gusto by the group* Mother Marion and Dad Leo were kept busy at the outdoor grill. Jeannie was ten on Aug. 14, hut the party was held at a later date. Labor Day Guests Mr. and Mrs. Ed Sinis breezed up from Louisville, Ky. over Labor Day to spend th6 holiday with their friends for many years, Mr. and Mrs. Ole Olsen; Unfortunately, their visit was cut short when Marge Olsen became ill, She had a rough tjme of it and the doctor was summoned. Mr. and Mrs. Theodor Olsen spread the festive board for Mrs. Tillie Andersen, Mrs. Sallie Andersen, both of Chicago; and for Mr. and Mrs. Ame Fotland who stopped at the Olsen home on their way back from North Dakota over the weekend. Cutest Things Sandy and Linda Passalaqua are ' proudly, showing their new pets to all their friends. But you have to look closely in order to sde them. Each of the girls is the proud possessor of tiny toy Chihuahua pups. One is named Bambi, the other Ginger. The girls' pet ducks don't seem to mind the intruders! Dances Extended Great news to the 'teen agers is the fact that their dances will be held every Saturday night through October, providing it does not get too cold* Last Saturday was poorly attended because of no publicity. Permission was granted after we had gone to press. The young people have don$ a wonderful job of managing these affairs and deserve the support of everyone. Why not come down to the beach this Saturday and "trip the light fantastic." Serving in the capacity of chaperone last Saturday night, your reporter wias delighted and amazed by the- wonderful manners which the young folks exhibit. Natal Day Greetings To Miss Andrea Parks who is "sweet sixteen" today, Thursday, Sept. .12. Ed Caron is looking forward to Monday, Sept. 16, when he will be eighteen years old! Bye, bye for now. See you next week. •» FLU VACCINE Officials of the Illinois jpepartriient of Public Health met to discuss means of assisting Illinois communities in combating a possible Asian influenza epidemic this winter. While a vaccine which can prevent , the disease is presently being manufactured, public health officials have been informed that an adequate supply is not expected to be available in time to innoculate everyone wishing a vaccination early this fall.
