W" PISTAKEE HIGHLANDS by Wand* Dobecki Our new. president, George Van Zevern, has announced his list of Jjpar committee chairmen for the Coming year. The following people will be in charge of committees: community center improvement committee, Ray Novotny; by-laws committee," Hazel Rodge; beach Committee, Ed Pfingston; refresh- ! inent, Kathy Reilly; and program, George Van Zevern. Those in charge of .'teenage activities are Floyd and- Vi Johnson and Jim files. We hope that these pecs' have a very successful year and that they and all the officers received all the cooperation possible from everyone in the community. It is never easy to be responsible for these jobs'but we wish them all the luck. The new officers have some , big plans for the coming year which include finishing the community . center and other big Jobs: But • these plans tan, never be carried j^irough .without the help of many people. So when volunteers of any kind are needed be sure your name is on the list of helpers. Officers Dance The dance and' party to honor the incoming and the outgoing officers will be held at the center on Sept. 28 around 8 o'clock, lere will be free refreshments, mcing, and entertainment and the only requirement for admission will be payment Of your 1958 association dues. This promises to be a real gay party and I think the Pistakee Highlands symphonic. quintet that fkerformed at the last party may be talked into doing, their stuff again. So make it a point to be there with your dues for the year. Sr. . *' Demonstrations % Demonstrations are .the modern way fof gals to get together for an evening, of fun and chatter and .still come away with some' worthwhile purchases M a r c| i TDowd had a. jewelry demonstration last Wednesday which was a big success. The girls enjoyed the assortment of gems and the cake and coffee afterwards. $*Dot Hayner also had a lingerie demonstration at her home on Friday afternoon. A few of the local gals gathered to vievy the wares and chat. „ . . Scouting for both boys and girls got under way on Tuesday when the first meetings of the year were held at the center. I'm sure the ~jfids are all looking forward to a Tgreat year of fun with the scouts. The scouting program just started in the Highlands last year and they made wonderful progress in the short time they were organized. We wish them all the luck for even greater progress in the coming season. If there are any children of scouting age that would like to join the scouts, either boys or girls, they are ^ordially invited to join the Wroops. Most of the group meet on Tuesday after school or in • the pvening. The Executive Committee of the PTA met at Mrs. Fishers to plan the acvtivities for the coming year. ' The first meeting of the PTA was. held on Tuesday at Johnsburg. - ; " Sailing:, Sailing Marilyn an Zevern was always wondering what it would be like to go sailing and she finally got her chance a week ago when some friends with a sail boat visited them. She was doing fine until she was told to sit up 'on the side of the boat for balance and then her enthusiasm faltered. She finally did her share of balancing but was a little weak in the knees later. She got a little on the damp side too but all in all sh6 enjoyed the' experience. All the other members of the family finally got their chance on the rolling waters too, including husband George and sister-in-law, Marilyn and Bob. Some Old Friends - Of Hazel and Martin Rogde came to visit them for a few days from EVansville. They were glad to see each other after many years but the wife, Mary Kuhn became very ill and a doctor had to be called. Her condition became worse and the doctor was called several times. She finally became well enough to start back home last week. Hazel was very worried for a while and was glad to see her friend feeling better. What a terrible way to spend a visit with old friends. Now Hazel is spending a few days resting up herself after a summer full of company and guests. Weiner Roas* The members of the beach committee got together for a good old fashioned weiner roast last Saturday night. The guests of honor were the life guards and their friends. The evening included a big fire,, songs and naturally weiners. Those on hand from the committee were: the Wilsons, the Spanchs, the Jenkins, and the Pfingstons. The guests of honor who were guards were: Bud Messel, Ron Spankuch, Craig Thoren and Bob Fletcher. A good time was had toy all in this appropriate tribute to our life guards for a job well done. Notice «" • The community center will be locked at all times in the future. If any one wishes to use the barn for any reason they will have to get the keys from the president,.
