__ Kanm Scanlan Travelers jowh words, he said "his head felt •^. Many of our local residents 'are J like a barrel and lils chest, like a ^trekking westward this year on drum," and he was just sick all ^vacations arid trips. Among those (over. It's all right with Frank if who tied to the West coast was I this bug flew right back to Asia, our Nancy Ehrhardt, who spent a wonderful three weeks travelling by train with her beloved grandmother, Mrs; Merton of Round Lake. Mrs. Merton is better known to her friends and loved ones as "Mor-Mor" (being Swedish for Gram). At any rate, Gram and Nancy went to Yakima, Seattle, went sight-seeing to Mt: Rainier. Nancy saw everything, went everywhere, and did most everything, including a, lot of horseback riding. On their return, ever the Labor Day Weekend both of these travel-wise ladies express the opinion that they had had a wonderful vacation, but they were glad to be back home once again, (even though they did return amid the hectic flurry of a holiday weekend). Well, folks, we're glad you had such a grand time, but we are glad you are back again safe and sound with so many wonderful memories treasure through the years. to More Travelers Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Carlson of South Highland Drive, in our fair community, returned Thursday evienirig from a wonderful trip to scenic Colorado. They went all through the Black Hills, took the tramway up Pike's Peak, saw the Grand Canyon, travelled through the Badlands and also visited Father Flanagan's famous Boys' Town. Mrs. Carlson was heard to say that she would never forget all the beauty she saw, the snow storm they encountered in the mountains, all the glorious scenery everywhere, but the thing which will remain longest in her memory was Boys' Town. She said there just aren't words to describe this city of boys, the way things are run, etc, etc. All of her opinions are shared by Mr. Carlson, and in his words: "The whole trip was swell!" Glad to hear it folks--and you know the old saying: "Travel broadens one." Every trip is an education in what we have in these United States-- we folks often have a tendency to forget what a garden spot we live in. Glad you're up and about again Frank. lfamous Names Oh yes, these POUD grandparents, Marge arid Larry Ehrhardt announce their newest addition, their first grandchild has been named--and a mighty pretty name it is too: Gay Ann Marie Roberts.. That's a mighty big name for a* wee girl, but we think it's just as beautiful as can be. If you see Marge and Larry carrying about a picture these days--you can be sure it's Gay Ann, and mighty sweet she is too. hljr<^drem Edgar'df Louise bf Lombard; Hartford, Michigan; Cleveland, Jr. of Tfrfley Park; Dorothy of Mc- Henry and their respective fam« ilies, which include twenty-one grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. What an impres sive record. Many happy returns Mr. Wade and best wishes. Socials <?: Every Thursday evening a social evening is planned at Wally's, commencing at 8:30 for the purpose of obtaining recreational facilities and improving and providing quarters for community projects. New "Hello" Girl Our McHehry Telephone exchange has a new operator, Carol Szarek. It seems that Carol is very happy and proud of her new job, and as one operator to another, or I should say ex-operator, 1 don't blame her. The telephone company In any city is a mighty nice place for a girl to work. This weekend however, our Carol got lonesome for her alma mater, Mount St. Mary's in St. Charles, so she rode down with a friend for a visit with her old teachers and the mother superior. No doubt she was telling them all about how to handle incoming and outgoing calls. The Flu Bog One of our own police force was recently laid low by that newest of flu bugs, "Asiatic Flu" Frank Pogany is once again' feeling like himself after a bout of this for almost two weeks. In his Tooting My Own Horn Mr. and Mrs. (that's me) Scan- Ian recently were made grandparents- for the seventh time. Sharon (Scanlan) Georgi, formerly of Lakemoor, having her first baby, presented us with a darling little granddaughter named: Sheryl Kathleen. She was born Sept. 11. This makes six little granddaughters and one grandson. Mother and baby reported doing fine . . . and grandparents are still glowing. And while we're talking about my family . . . Jim and I will be going to Chicago this weekend where our family of three sons and three daughters will be wineing and dining us in celebration of our thirtieth wedding anniversary. I'm sure we will have a wonderful time, we always do when we all get together. Our Library Many of our villagers unknown to me by name, have graciously donated books to our library. How about some more folks doing the same. This is a worthwhile project as there will be many long, dull winter evenings which can be filled with delightful reading furnished by our library, through free books donated by us to help each other. It will help the children to get much necessary information also. If you have any books you would like to give, please call me or the village clerk and some one will be glad to pick them up. Thank you.
