mmmvmsm >_ Xs*'*#••» ^'^^^J!'* JJif'l'y111 V"W,". iPi :;tl^ "Air- Bhoa*,"* . Monday' night brought out a busy time for sport fans. As Mgrtie dark gut it, his house was in a turmoil as radio switched from the Milwaukee-St. Louis game, td «^hite-Sox-Kansas-City to Basiliougar Ray. From living loom to kitchen, then to b&drooin, We lugged a radio. / With television in the living foom, we finally closed the door, crawled under the covers and settled down to the BraVe-Cardjinal game. The penant hung on ; every move arid Milwaukee fans Ranted it settled without^ further delay. ' i We suppose our old "friend, Martin Smith, was on edge down there in St. Louis. Those Cardinals were certainly the surprise team in baseball this year. Experts gave us no indication that they would be up there so close. The league had better watch $feose Cards next season. Frank Lane made, some unpopular trades, b.ut saw the team come from a bedraggled seventh place finish in '55 to a Respectable fourth spot in '56, then to a rousing second in '57. But, it is, the Braves who finally put it over after 8 million fans saw them perform at home In the last four years. Those fans detterve a wiliner. If ever a town went wild with Joy it must, have been Milwaukee when Hank Aaron hoisted that homer in the eleventh inning. John Dreymiller blames it all on "Muggs" arid his jolly clerks; but it was John who delivered some choice cigars at a tirrie jwhen they know we are not per- Emitted a puff. Of course, the card enscribed "Hope the end's in sight" has been interpreted in many ways, but Dreymiller worries for fear it doesn't mean a speedy recovery. We understand that the County League All-Stars won a 6-4 game from the champion Johnsburg figers last Sunday. As near as e know, that winds up the local baseball activity for this year. We are happy to welcome Ron Spankuch, MCHS student, who makes his "debut this week as a football reporter. Ron couldn't build up much of a story on that defeat the Warriors took at Barrington, but is ready to give it a dash this week when Zion-Benton ^omes to town. McHenry simply is no match for the Barrington team. The boys took it on the chin and are now ready to start over. Comparative scores „ indicate . that McHenry and Zion should ' put up quite a battle when they clash here Friday night. We hope to be able to sit in close to ,£pick up some sidelights while Ron gets the running story of the game. Daily Pinups No man has a monopoly an the moon, no man has power to manipulate the sun. Spankuch A thrilling but disappointing game was watched by McHenry High School students as their team,' the McHenry Warriors, Were badly beaten by the Barrington Broncos 48 - to 0 at Barrington last Saturday afternoon. The scoring was as follows: 1st 2nd 3rd 4th T McHenry 0 0 0 0 0 Barrington 13 14 14 7 48 Barrington's scorers were as follows: Bill Thorp made two touchdowns, both on 2-yard plunges. Chris Keller made two touchdowns, both on 25-yard runs. Randy Reetz made two touchdowns, one on a 44 yard pass interception return and one on a 12-yd. run after receiving a nice pass. Jim Hagedorn made one on a 2-yd. plunge. Hagedorn was very accurate as he made 6 out of 7 extra point kicks. McHenry made. 81 yards rushing and , 65 yards by passing. Barrington made 224 yards rushing and 43 yards by passing. McHenry Warriors played a good game of offense and defense but were overpowered plus the fact that consistant penalties at critical times favored the winning team. Coach Mandli and his fine squad, consisting of Matt Eichinger, Bob Meyer, Denny Conway, Gary Vogt, Jerry Raycraft, Sonny Hocin, Mark Vycital, Carl Walker, Ed Caron, Tom O'Brien, John Mascari, Don Bentz, John Scarbrough, Bob Hauser, James Jones, James Justen, Dick Sanford, Don Rush, Terry Brady, Bill Wilier, Dick Antonson, Pete Haines, Tom Roti, Jim Peterson, A1 Franz, Ron Creutz, Chuck Hutchinson, Don Rockel, Jim Bell, and Jack Schaefer, all give Zion Benton fair warning for next Fridays' game. Cfoach Fultort has a promising improvement in the'line as does Coach Mandli with his backfield. McHenry's Sophs were beaten 24 to 6 at Barrington. Friday night is the night of our next game. This will be a home game against Zion-Benton. See you there at 8:00. Rudy Becker, of "Becker's Kennels," took a year old pup up to Wisconsin for its first field trial last week-end. The pup, a German Shorthair, called "Becker's Smokie", won second place. There were ninety-three dogs performing in the trial. This dog is really getting off to a promising start. Rudy had the pup on T.V. for thirteen weeks on Channel 11. Becker's Kennels are located about a mile east of the outdoor theater. They take care of house dogs as well as hunting dogs. The Kennels are heated and kept very clean. Dogs boarded there really go "first class." We know - - we have been there. Squirrel hunting has been good and will greatly improve as soon as we get a couple of good frosts.
