McCullom Lake News Under Way In the immediate future, one of the many workers on the McHenry hospital fund drive will be calling on you to explain in detail, the addition. How vitally addition is needed is already known by some of our villagers. We are extremely fortunate to have the hospital facilities now in existence and so close fit hand. Because of the terrific growth In population in our own village and in . surrounding communities, those facilities are already inadequate. The proposed addition with the maternity wing is sadly needed. Meetings for team captains and workers were held last week Monday and Sunday afternoon under the direction of Don Swanson and -Don Frey . The next report meeting will be held Monday, Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. in the beachhouse. Listen to the story they have to tell and then search your conscience to decide what your pledge will be! As though the previous hectic hours weren't enough, Gerry and Len Jensen. Jr. had still another ordeal. On their way home from the reception, (both were members of the bridal party) they were, the first persons to reach the victims of the Johnsburg auto crash. Mr£. JensefL^spoke to the lone survivor of the accident which claimed the lives of five Chicago youths. The young lad was rushed to McHenry hospital and according to reports, he is winning the battle for his life. The fact that he was thrown from the car before the vehicle struck the tree, no doubt, was the saving factor in his case. The entire Johnson family was considerably unnerved on Sunday. A Day To Remember We refer to Patty Jensen's wedding day, Saturday. Oct. 12 when she became the bride of Mr. Jerry Sauter in a beautiful fall wedding at the Community Methodist church. Many of the local folks attended the ceremony and the ensuing festivities at Chapel Hill Country club. Full details appear elsewhere jj/i the Plaindealer. A grim note struck the party about 11 p.m. when Benjamin Sauter, father of the bridegroom, was stricken with a heart attack and was rushed to McHenry hospital. Oxygen was administered immediately. The bridal couple had already departed for their honeymood in Mississippi and were unaware of the catastrophe.. The news will be withheld from them until their return. At last reports, Mr. Sauter was doing well although he will be confined in the hospital for a least six weeks. Our sincere best wishes for a speedy recovery to a man still in the prime of his life. Harvest Ball To wind up the season with a bang, the 'teeners club will have a Halloween dance; Saturday, Oct. 26 at the beach. All sorts of unusual entertainment is being planned and should be quite an affair. Everyone is asked to appear in costume, or course! Some of the featured fare will include yummy refreshments, a dance contest, and prizes for unusual and funny costumes. Should be a lot of fun and attract a good sized crowd. The party will commence at 7:30 p.m. "Kute Kwotes From Little Kids" Fred Matthesius tells this one about his little Nancy. Seems she and sister Louise were consuming their evening repast which was spaghetti. Nancy bolted from the table, leaving a portion on her plate. She was summoned back by her dad to finish the remains. In the meantime, "little lady" Louise with perfect "restaurant manners" asked to be excused. Holding Louise's proper etiquette un for an example, Fred admonished Nancy to finish her plate. Whereup the little tyke belligerently replied. "What do you want me to do, lick it too, Daddy?" Teen Kntertatns Miss Sandy Passalaqua, cute 'teen a per, played hostess to several of her friends and two cousins at a birthday party, held Friday after school. Her actual natal day was Sunday. Mrs. Lillian McCarthy, who had been spending a little time in Daytona. Ohio, visiting the family of her deceased husband, was on the way home when her trouble occurred. Driving along and enjoying the scenery, she was appalled when her car acted like the bottom fell out! A repair man was summoned immediately and towed her into Elkhart, Ind. where she was stranded for TEN days! Seems as though the delay was caused by parts which had to be sent for. Good sport that she is. Lillian made the most of her enforced visit in Elkhart by exploring the merits of the city. She was due to come home last weekend. Post Rehearsal Party . Our perennial bachelor for so many years is about to take the plunge! There were even bets that he wouldn't make it this time! That is, until folks met the lovely Miss Lorraine Wollak of Lilymoor, who will become Mrs. Ray Deskis on Saturday. Oct. 19 at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick's church. Age Is No Barrier Mrs. Max Kolin was delighted to receive word that her two elderly aunts were to pay her a visit. She appeared promptly at the Greyhound bus stop in McHenry hoping to assist Mrs. Helen Lerner, age 87, and Mrs. Carrie Weir, 72 as they alighted. Mrs. Kolin also supposed they would be accompanied by a younger companion. Imagine her surprise when the two spry ladies literally bounced off the bus unassisted and made their way to her awaiting vehicle. The tale does not end there!! Being very fond of mushrooms, Helene arranged for a trip through the woods to hunt the woodland delicacies. After a few hours, Helene gave up because she was tired! The two "young chicks" continued the hunt and came into the house long afterward, looking disgustingly refreshed. Guess age is just a state of mind! • Oh, For The Talent Of , . An Artist!! These were the words expressed by Mrs. Irene Sales and husband Leo as they returned from a breathtaking trip along the Mississippi river, last week. Having just purchased a new car, they took the journey for a twofold Feathers Will Fly Getting enough turkeys prepared for the "feather party" which the Ladies of the Lake will hold at McDonald's, Saturday, Nov. 16, will take some doing!! Fun To Make A Mistake To keep track of our readers, your reporter likes to "boo-boo" once in a while just to hear the results! A great many people pointed, out the error concerning the village board meeting which was reported as being Oct. 7 instead of the correct 14. Thanks to all and keep it up. Hope this didn't keep too many folks away from tne meeting wiiicn w&s neiu Monday night. It will be covered in detail in next1 week's column. CORRECTLY, we hope! Barbara and Chuck Thacker spent three delightful days visiting with Barbara's mother and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Beriesh, in Worth. In spite of the ads dition of • four more people there was plenty of room in the Benesh's four room house trailer. Barbara was "green-eyed" with all the conveniences. Oops, mustn't call it a trailer, They are referred to as mobile homes! Dq you suppose the Thackers will be tempted? Sounds Special The meal was but the occasion wasn't, when Jean and Hugh McDonald entertained Mrs. Lou Gielow and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Mackin last Sunday afternoon. Jean's menu consisted of pheasant and all the trimmings, followed by champagne! That's really living "high on the hog." No previous preparations had been made or invitations issued. It was just one of those delightful things that "just happened.". Surely was fun and enjoyed by the participants. forty-fourth recently. .Mrs. Anna Muschfeld added another year on her natal day, Tuesday, Oct. 15. She isn't telling how many!
