Wedding BeUs , beautiful wedding (ceremony wate performed at St. John's church at 9:30 last Saturday morning. This ceremony united the former Marilyn Smith, daughter' of Pete and Martha Smith and Carl.Ohlrich of Woodstock. A host of relatives and friends joined the newlyweds at a dinner and reception in their honor later in the day. Upon their return f«£jfa their honeymoon trip, the new Mr. and Mrs. Ohlrich will take up residence in Woodstock. day afternoon, were kept, quite busy cutting out trimmings for their future cradle project. They have intentions of finishing them at the next meeting. This troop is looking forward to attending the Hallowe'en party to which they were invited by the above group which meets weekly in the Community club. ; School Examinations On Tuesday, Oct. 29, a doctor Willi be present at St. John's school to start the .yearly physicals. Children in grades one and five, and all new children admitted to this school this semester will undergo these examinatldfls. Mothers can help by having the children wear something that can be easily slipped off on this particular day. Hallowe'en Reminder Have you thought up something original for the forthcoming Hal- " owe'en dance at the Community Club on Wednesday evening, Oct. 30? Time is growing short so if ymfchaven't as yet, you had better start looking. Judging will take 'place at 10 o'clock sharp. Why jiot come on out and try and win j' a prize. If you don't care to dress (t in costume, come over and join " in on the fun anyhow. "Trick or Treat" Next week many of our houses will be visited by little and maybe a few big "trick or treaters". not bake a few extra treats and give them to the costumed characters who come to your door. Brownie News "ijhe meeting of Tuesday, Oct. 15, tfound ithe girls setting the various projects aside io take the afternoon 6ff for a little relaxatioii. Tlqjy played games and did a little "rug cutting" on the side. Hostess fpr this particular afterno^ jjji was 'Linda Mangold. The Brownie troop which meets in the; public school on Wednes- : Old Mr. Germ Besides the, flu bug which has hit many homes with a terrific wallop, mean Mr. Mumps has paid a few houses calls also. His latest victim is Carol Ann Dehn. It is a little; painful, but keep your chin up, Carol Ann, it can't last forever! Rescue Squad Calls The squad has been called upon several times since that terrible night when five young boys lost their lives in a car accident near Chapel Hill. The squad which was among the first to the scene, did a terrific job of controlling traffic so workers were able to remove the bodies from the mangled wreck. The members of the squad were called to a home near Pistakee Highlands where a couple was overcQme from the fumes of a gas lieater. Early last Tuesday morning the squad was called to lend its assistance in an accident which took place just north of Jak-Ana Heights subdivision. The accident involved two cars driven by Otto Larsen of Spring Grove and Fran cis Orr of McHenry. Both men were removed to the McHenry hospital by ambulances. Early Sunday morning, the squad members were routed from their sleep once .again for an auto accident. Joe. Miksek's car slid out of control on the gravel. Joe was taken to the McHenry hospital for back injuries and was released shortly after: "Happy Birthday" To little Joey Dehn who will celebrate his fourth natal day on Oct. 25. MOOSE LODGE WOMEN OF THE MOOSE i •!• I 'I 1 * -M' The second- meeting of the month brought forth a guest speaker^ Dan Justen, and he talked to us on the new addition of the McHenry hospital. He explained the reasons why we should all think of this new addition as a great necessity and advantage to McHenry and surrounding communities. The meeting was then opened with topics of interest to all. The children's Hallowe'en costume party, given by the menf on Sunday, Oct. 27, at the Moose lodge at 2:30 p.m. Bring the kiddies for their treats and fun. Remember the fifth Tuesday of Oct. is another one of those fun-for-all joint meetings, with lots to eat--pot luck, time 8 p.m., Oct. 29, Co-workers who went to Crystal Lake, for their Christmas in October meeting on Tuesday, Oct.. 8. were -Hpzel. Strmve, Mabel Thomas, Ethel Wolff. Lillian Cox. Marge Fernstrom, Lona Brever, Ila Hogan, Doris Low, Ann Rodenkirk and Madeline Mayfield. The library chairman. Hazel Bowman, Publicity Chairman Pag* Thirteen Party Success Last Sunday evening found many persons enjoying the first of the fall public parties sponsored by the Blessed Virgin Sodality and held in St. John's school hall. Be sttre to watch this column in the future for another of these popular affairs. BRUCELLOSIS RULES Test and slaughter of brucellosis infected dairy and breeding cattle more than four months old has become compulsory in Bureau and Champaign counties. This brings to 14 the number of counties which have been declared areas for certification and placed under the test and slaughter plans since the program began July 30. Counties previously declared were: Boone, Cook, DeKalb, Kendall Lake, LaSalle, Livingstone, McHenry, Macon. Stephenson, Vermilion and Winnebago. Since July 1, the state has had funds with which to aid the federal government in indemnity payments to owners of infected animals. Under this program "the owner of an infected animal may be paid onethird of the difference between the appraised value and the salvage of an animal, not to exceed $25 for a grade animal or $50 for a purebred. At present, slaughter is not compulsory in the remaining 88 counties of Illinois. SPRING GROVE By Mrs. Charles Freund Meeting^. n0..'. Rev.! John Daltiden and the ushers of St. PetecW parish met at the heme of Charles Freund on Tuesday night for their regular meeting. The coming feather party was discussed which will be held just before Thanksgiving. There was also cards and a lunch was served. Mrs. William Shotliff was hostess to members of W.S.C.S. of the Methodist church at her home on Wednesday, Oct. 16. On Thursday night members of the Christian Mother Sodality of St. Peter's held their meeting at the parish hall. Interesting reports were given by those who attended the convention of the D.C C.W. at Rockford on Oct. '6. A card party was announced which will be held the first part of November with Mrs. Lubeck as chairman. A, pantry shower was held for the nuns. They were invited to this meeting and were presented with a large assortment of groceries, ham, bacon, turkeys and chickens, etc. Sr. M. Veneranda gave a little talk expressing her gratefulness arid thanking all for their generosity. A movie was shown of a trip through Europe by Arnold May of Richmond and was greatly enjoyed by all present.'As a perfect closing a delicious lunch was served by the committee in charge. Members of her card club met at the home of Mrs. William Britz on Thursday afterribtm. Games of five hundred were played and prizes went to MrswHelen Smith, Mrs. Lizzie Engels. Mrs. Anne Huff, Mrs. Mary Nimsgern and Mrs. Nora Miller. A lunch was served. thii picnic were Mrs. Jane Schneider, Mrs. Yvonne Arnold, Mrs. Bill Thornton, Mrs. Lloyd Spitzbart, Mrs. Frank Fay and Mrs. Herta Block. Move To Maryland Doc and Marilyn Ford and family visited here this weekend while enroute to Fort Meade, Md. They were In Seattle, Wash., for several years and have been transferred to Ft. Meade. Shower A shower was held honoring Miss Beverly Adsit on Sunday afternoon at Wilmot, Wis. Hostesses vyere sisters of the groom-to-be, Mrs. Mack and Mrs. Ehlert. Beverly was, the happy recipient of many beautiful and useful gifts. A lovely lunch was served to complete the party. Miss Adsit will become the bride of Robert Hoffman on Oct. 26. Attend Affair xnCarigago Mrs. Edna Olson, Miss Lorraine MitcheU, Mrs. Leo Smith attended a shower held for Miss Judith Olson in Chicago last Sunday. Judy's wedding will be Nov. 9 when she will become the bride of David Smith. Birthday Dinner Mrs. Charles Freund, Mrs. Geo. May, Charlotte Freund and Donna and Diane May enjoyed going out to dinner. on Wednesday night in honor of Diane's birthday. They enjoyed a show after dinner. K. C. Breakfast A breakfast was served to over 100 guests, members and their families of the Knights of Columbus at St. Peter's parish hall on Sunday morning. Patrons in this area are now receiving house to house delivery. Patrons west on Highway 12 have also been added in an extension. This brings these people closer to their post Office. .
