The annual average pounds of ctothing collected has been 10 million pounds, and last year this was surpassed with" 16 million pounds having been col- THE Mc Christmas Decoration Demonstration A number of ladies from this prea attended a demonstration of holiday arrangements given by Mrs. Lee Neeman of Chicago, and sponsored by the Fox River Grove Garden club, Nov. 13. They came home with a lot 6f new ideas for wreaths, table and fire place arrangements to decorate for Christmas. The following ladies made the trip: Mrs. Arthur Hoppe, Mrs. Eva Eppel Mrs. John Neuharth, and Mrs. Howard Maxwell of McHenry, Jirs. Victor Milbrandt, Mrs. Ed Muchow, Mrs. Charles Kopp, and Mrs. Leon Switzer of Wonder Lake. Call For Volunteers Sunday, Nov. 24, < volunteer marchers will solicit funds for the muscular dystrophy association. This is the first year a drive for M.D.A. has been made at Wonder Lake and Ringwood. Mrs. Pat DeWald, drive chairman, announced that workers are still needed in Hickory Falls, Wooded Shores, White Oaks Bay, Wonder Center, Sunrise Ridge and Look Out Point. If you wish to contribute a few hours time call Mrs. DeWald at W. L. 2912. Mrs. Margaret Rose will canvass Wonderview subdivision and the following teenage girls will work in the subdivisions in which they live. They are Terry Cope, Nancy Wenkle, Beth Smith, Susan Spuehr, Rose Barkley, Pat Kurcea and Vickie Johnson. Mrs. W. Andreas and Mrs. C. Anderson are working in Ringwood. Other ladies taking part in the drive are Mrs. Cushin, Mrs. J. Rasmussen, Mrs. George Bates, Mrs. Edward Doutlick, Mrs. R. Petewick, Mrs. F. Etheridge, Mrs. J. Smith, and Mrs. P. Lincoln. Every child with muscular dystrophy depends on you for hope. We would like to answer those who questioned "why so many drives today" by pointing out that something can and is being done for persons stricken with disabling disease today. Money collected through voluntary contribution not only provides treatment but makes possible the research into cause and prevention, and this is close to every one of us. Care of the handicapped is part of our twentieth century standard of living and voluntary contribution, is the American way. A large percentage of the clothing was given to the many thousands of refugees left homeless following the Hungarian revolt This year the need is even greater and all usable clothes, blankets, shoes and other family items are being collected at the church during the coming week. Masses on Thanksgiving Day will be at 7:30 and 8 a.m. All are urged to try to offer in the inten tions of the Masses of the day.. Coming Events: Each Tuesday evening Games Night at Mathews Hall 8:15 p.m. sponsored by the Holy Name Society. , Wednesday evening at 8:30 p.m.1 Alcoholics Annonymous meeting at the Church. " , ' Altar Boys meet every other Friday evening at-the Church at 7:15 p.m. Outer Suburbia Recently we received a letter from the mother of one of two boys, aged 14 and. 16, who wepefined $10 each by our lactd Justice, The' boys had trespassed and were target shoting in the channel. When apprehended at their car they discovered that they had lost their wallet containing drivers and hunting licenses. The wallet has since been found and the mother is grateful to the persons who were instrumental in returning it. We would like to point out that the projectile of a 22 caliber rifle with a carrying range of one mile is a lethal weapon in our built-up community. The first complaint came from a woman who heard the lead whizzing over her head. It is,no longer possible to enjoy the freedom of "being out in the open" with a rifle in this area. The State of Illinois permitted its first deer season in over fifty years this fall. Permits were issued for the use of shotguns using slugs, only. Slugs have a maximum effective range of 100 yards, or 300 feet--compare this with a wild flying 22 at 5,280 feet. It is to be hoped that there is a general realization of the hazards of the sport of shooting small arms before a tragedy does take place. Both .McHenry and Wonder Lake have, ranges and gun clubs to'accommodate the enthusiast. &ofh Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. George-Unwin of Maple Drive, Wonder Center, will celebrate their golden wedding an-; niversary Nov. 23 by holding open Rural Carrier Examination An examination for rural carrier for the post office at Wonder Lake will1 be open for acceptance of applications until Dec. 10, the civil service commission announced today.
