' U ' ; / ' m News Briefs ^Jeorge Weeks of Deep Spring ^Aods hopes to be home by the end of the week from the hospital .in Woodstock where surgery was performed on his knee Tuesday as the result of the fracture he received in an auto accident Nov. 26. Weeks was driving east on the Kishwaukee blacktop 3 miles west of Woodstock when he crashed into the rear of a farm wagon loaded with shell corn at 5:45 p.gt Hie tractor pulled wagon Ma reflectors on the rear which were not illuminated by the oncoming car in time to stop. Weeks suffered chest injuries and lacerations of the forehead in addition to the knee injury. His leg will be in a cast for six to eight weeks. The tractor and its driver were not injured. v Clarence UUman of Highland Shores is getting along nicely at tijp Memorial hospital in Woodstock where his back has been put in a cast for a fracture of his spine. UUman fell from the roof of his home where he had climbed to repair the T.V. aerial Nov. 26. He hopes to be home soon. Dr. and Mrs. S„ L. Ruggero welcomed a 10 lb. 1 oz. boy born Nov. 25 at.the Memorial hospital for McHenry «county. The new baby has been named William S. atu has six brothers and sisters eager to make his acquaintance. They are Louise, age 10, Nancy, 9, Leo Wines of Wooded ^Shores had his seventh birthady party postponed as a result of being in the McHenry hospital where he underwent major surgery last Wednesday. We hope you soon feel well enough to have your party; BiHy. There was a bunco party last week'for the benefit of the Memorial hospital for . McHenry county at the home of Mrs. Phyllis Letizia. $5.50 was turned over to the hospital building fund. Ladies attending were the Mrs. Gloria McMahon, Delores McMillan, Louise Johnson, Lorraine Moore, Joanne Higgins, Kay Boldt June Keller, .and Melviria Knackstedt. Mrs. McMillan will have the Christmas party Dec. 12. Mrs. James Bell and T. P; Mathews attended the monthly meeting of the McHenry county board of realtors, of which Mathews is a director, in Crystal Lake last week. Robert'Cook, executive vice-president of the Illinois association of real estate boards was the speaker. His theme was ethical standards of realtors and the professional status of the real estate business. in these five jfcars and on this fifth anniversary and loyalty Sunday will give thanks to God and express appreciation to Him for His many mercies. . The Luther league will meet, at 7:30, Sunday evening, Dec. 8. After the. business meeting and prqgram there will be a social and refreshments. All young people are welcome. The Altar Guild will meet on Dec. 11, at 8 p.m. Plans for the holiday season and the decoration c£ the church will be1 completed. • A program will also be presented. Wrights, is overseas now, and the latest word is that he will be stationed somewhere near Munich, Germany. The rest of the Wright family gathered for Thanksgiving dinner at the home of Mrs. Wright's sis- £r, in Gibson City, Illinois, Dr. and Mrs. T. Q. Swanson. Betty and Billy were on vacation from DeKalb and University of Illinois at Navy Pier for the occasion. Betty brought a foreign exchange student, Trudy Prosser of Austria to share the Thanksgiving day. bring their pledge cards, which will be mailed to them, for the current fund and benevolence programs' of the church. It^ was on Dec. 7, 1952 that Nativity was officially organized as a congregation with special services at Grace Lutheran church in Woodstock. Worship services had started in July of that year at Harrison school and the great interest shown at that time hastened the day of organization. In September; when services could no longer be held at the school, the present house-chapel was purchased. When this soon became too small the men of the church built the 24 foot addition on the front. In these five years, besides the purchasing and building an addition to the house-chapel, the church has purchased a parsonage for the pastor ~and a site for the new church, which will be built next year. A new stairway, recently installed, will make entrance to the basement more convenient. The Sunday school will be entering into an attendance contest. with the east side Bible church of Chicago to begin the first of January. A trophy will be given to the winning Sunday school. The Madrigals are a group of eight voices who sing informal, small chamber music, under the direction of John Monkman of Hebron. They have been organized a little over a year. A Christmas tree will, be trimmed by the assembly during the serving of refreshments ire the lunch room. The dance is in honor of the seventh and eighth grade stu- 1ents. Proceeds from the party will be given to the eighth grade class to be used for the Springfield trip which the class takes each May. Refreshments will be served and the dance committee invites' parents and 'teen agers to turn out and help make this a gala affair.
