PISTAKEE HIGHLANDS by Wanda Dobeekl The December meeting of the association was heJd on last Wednesday at the center. Trie various reports were heard from the committees and from the scouting leaders. Hugh Kirk was on hand to present the scout leaders with the charter for the cub scout troop which was recently formed. He gave a short speech commending the fine work that the leaders have done here in the past year. It was voted to have the C h r i s t m a s d e c o r a t i n g c o n t e s t again this year and there will be three prizes awarded for the best outside decorations. First prize will be a $25 war bond, second prize $15, and third prize , will be $10. So now we can all get busy and bring, up some real fancy ideas for the outside of our houses for.the Christmas season. tree yet you had better get one reserved before the best are all gone. The prices are reasonable and any profits go into the sea scout treasury. So get your tree here in the Highlands and help the sea scouts in their work. Cab Scouts There will be no pack night this month but there'll be one as scheduled on the last Monday in January. The Cubs are doing fine and getting organized in their new troop.. Yoy can expect to hear lots of them "in the near future. New Year's Party Floyd Johnson gave the final report on the plans for the big New Year's Eve party to be held at, the center for association members. If you would like to attend, please get further information on evening's entertainment and charges from Mr. Johnson or your block captain no later than Dec. 20. This promises to be a real gala evening with fun .for all so make sure you get your reservation in now with your money. Boy Scouts Hie Boy Scouts are .working hard on their program and "on earning their badges. They did very well in their recent sale of first aid kits and ran out before everyone had been contacted. Keep up the good work boys. Brownies Hie Brownies had no meeting last week but are working hard on their projects for Christmas for their family. And soon we w^JJ be hearing their angelic little voices as they sing Christmas carols for the coming season. Christmas Party There will be a Christmas party for the youngsters of the community on Saturday, Dec 21 from 6-8 p.m. at the community center. This will be a party for toddlers through eighth grade and will feature movies, a puppet show and of course refreshments arid gifts for all the small fry. And I wouldn't be surprised if jolly old St Nick doesn't make an appearance too. This affair will be put on by the fathers this year and should prove to be a good time for alL Don't forget Dec. 2L Speaking of Christmas have you noticed all the sparkling eyes and excited expressions on all the well behaved children lately? When the little darlings start behaving like living angels it is a sure sign that Christmas --=can't be far -- away-- I've even noticed improved behavior on seine adults I know. Sea Scouts are busy selline Christmas trees in the vicinity oT the center now and the selection is very good. If you haven't picked out your Plstakee Highland Teen Club The rifle club is off to a fine start. Our boys went to the meeting that was held for the election of officers. We had a good return, for in the president's chair is Don Rockel, vice-president is Don Bentz, secretary is Craig Thoren and treasurer is Dick Brod of McHenry. The president of our 'teen club received a letter from Arthur 'Peterson, the squad dance caller, asking the club members if they would write to a four-year old girl in Lake Villa who is a polio victim. The suggestion was well received and volunteers were immediately received. Chorar practice is coming along fine. Practice is being held on Monday nights. Congratulation Corner Gloria and Gene Dowe recently celebrated^the important first anniversary on Dec. 1. They went out on the town and had a very nice time. Congratulations to the happy couple. Happy anniversary to Jack and Dot Erbin who chalk up another year on Dec. 13. They didn't say how many years they have survived wedded bliss but Jack said it seemed like fifty. vThey celebrated by going out to the Moose lodge dance with the Lammerts and the Dobeckis. 5^ $tork C#ll * .' til* stork/ was very undecided •8 t<f>1 whether he wanted to' stop at the Murgatroyd house or not but after four attempts he finail> ly left a baby boy, 6 lbs. 11 oz. Chuck and Dianne were beginning to think the tall bird wfculd never arrive but are very happy he left such a sweet little bundle. Bernice Ludwin was also very happy to see the stork arrive and leave a bundle for her. The little boy wasn't expected for quite a while but we are very happy that both mother and new baby boy are doing fine.. Kathy Reilly was surprised by a shower given for her last week by a bunch of the neighborhood gals in honor of the little stranger expected to arrive at her house soon. Cake Cutters Christy Peterson was very excited about her birthday &nd party which was held last Wednesday morning for the neighborhood. children. Christy just turned four and is very happy about the whole thing. Congratulations and happy birthday Christy. . Her neighbor Jo Ann Mclnerny also celebrated her fifth birthday on Dec. 19. She will also have a few of her playmates in for a little party. Happy birthday to you Jo Ann. And right across the street on Woodland, Barbara and Ronnie Kolb also celebrated another year recently. Barb's birthday was on Dec. 9 and Ronnie's on Dec. 1. A very happy birthday to both of you. Glen Hayner, the Janquart girls, Charlotte Smith and the Szyplebaums. He justN doesn't seem to get tired of going around because each week there is more and more on his list. The two little boys returned with tales of all they had seen and very tired feet. As usual the mamas were ready to head for home long before the boys were. The Joneses of Meadow Lane are busy getting settled for the holiday season. They were very happy to be able to be-in their new home for Thanksgiving. And Roy and Ernie Kresen, two of Wally's co-workers came out to see their-home. Down Meadow Lane Dick Morley is celebrating his birthday Dec. 10. Many happy returns of the day. He admits to being 21.
