Barrington, apparently looking forward to their battle with powerful East Rockford the following night, was caught off balance by the Warrior's full court press at the start of the game. McHenry cpntinued to run as they have in the past three games and the result was illustrated by the weariness ' of the Broncho players. McHenry jumped off to a 16-9 first quarter lead. It appeared that the Bronchos were ready to be tamed V the second quarter, as Coach Fulton's boys outscored them again 19-10 to hold a halftime lead of 16 points. Halftime score was 35-19. Barrington began to show its power in the second half as they outscored us 13-10 in the third quarter and 22-9 in the final period. With a minute and a half left in the game, McHenry led 54-48. Barrington scored an amazing 6 points in this last minute surge to tie the score at 54-54 and send the battle into overtime. Justen, Cajthaml, and Eichinger scored in the 3 minute overtime. Matt scored the winning basket with 10 seconds left in the game. This was a -great team victory as it dumped Barrington with its first conference defeat. Outstanding performances were: Jim Justen, 17 points and 17 rebounds; Matt Eichinger, 16 points, 7 assists, 3 recoveries; Don Bentz, 18 rebounds; Denny Conway, 3 recoveries. Special mention should also go to Bill Thorpe, Barrington guard, who dumped in 18 points in the second half and totaded 21 in the game. The story of the game is told in the percentage. We" shot 42.4% to Barrington's 28.1%. This win moved us into third place with a 3-2 record. It was our third straight victory and our season record stands at 9 wins and 3 losses. SHOP IN McHENKY The McHenry Warriors wrapped up their fourth straight victory at Hebron last Monday night as they defeated Woodstock 71- 44 in their first game of the County Tournament. It wag the Warriors' third victory over the Blue Streaks in three games this year. Woodstock was really up for this game, but it did them little gOod as the Warriors full Court press enabled : them to consequently steal the ball and go in for easy layups. Many of these lay-ups were missed in the early stages of the game, but in the second half the shooting picked up considerably? We shot 33.3 percent to Woodstock's 54.4 per cent in the first half. In the second half, McHenry shot 54.2 per cent to the Blue Streaks' 16.7 per cent. Our final percentage was 41.7. It was a fast-scoring game in the first quarter as McHenry took a 21-16 lead. We outscored them again in the secojnd period by a 19-14 margin. The halftime score was 40-30, McHenry on top. The third quarter was a lowscoring affair in which Coach Fulton's boys outscored Woodstock 14 to 12. Woodstock's weariness due to McHenry's terrific defensive play caused the Warrior's to pull away in the final period by outscoring Woodstock 17 to 12. Every McHenry player entered the game and did a fine job. The only bad point of the contest was that we committed 20 violations, (bad pass, fumble, held ball, steps) but this is to be* expected when a full-court press is used. The scoring was very evenly balanced which is a good sign, showing the scoring potential of every starter. Much credit went to Mike Creighton, a sophomore, who led the team with 14 rebounds. WRESTLING The Warriors travelled to Lake ^Forest last Friday and were beaten 29-17. The long bus ride and the long layoff from wrestling hurt the boys. Theise factors coupled with Lake Forest's tremendous spirit caused the defeat. The next match will be against Grant on January 16th at Grant.
