The SadiNmcrs moved to their present home on North Boulevard from their former residence on Gresham street in Ghicagb seven years ago. Miss Josephine Bojnarowski and iMr. Adolph Sadowski were joined In holy wedlocks at St. Stanaslaus (Kostki) church on Noble and iJlackhawk streets in Chicago, on Jon. 23, 1905. A son, Walter Edward, was born to the couple on June 27, 1S15. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Sadowski served many years as a tailor in Chicago. They Were both born eighty years ago this year in Bailystok, Poland. ' In 1899, when Adolph had a chance to come to America and Josephine couldn't come too it tates distressing because Adolph and. Josephine had been courting tor many years and plan to -marry. It was such a good opportunity for him to go to the new counjtry that it was agreed that he jshould take advantage of it and she would follow shortly. He left Poland at the iage of twenty-two and found employment in Penndatte Rojek of Wikes Barre, Pa. We hope this day recalls many pleasant memories for this fine couple who have shared more than half a century of marriage. No questions will be ask but please bring it back. $600,000 FIRST YEAS , SCHOLARSHIPS TO BE GIVEN IN STAtE "With our new state scholarship program, Illinois will take the lead in conserving and developing our most precious asset--brainpower," Lloyd ' S. Michael, chairman of the newly formed Illinois State Scholarship commission and superintendent, Evanston Township high school, said recently. Illinois high school seniors will compete on Feb. 1, 1958, for $600,- 000 in first-year scholarships to Illinois colleges and universities, announced Dr. Michael. The Illinois High School association is cooperating in this important program by clearing its schedule of all conflicting activities on Feb. 1. Scierice Research Associates of Chicago, a nationally prominent educational testing and consulting organization, has been retained to construct, administer and score the competitive examinations. The examinations will be held on college; and university campuses throughout the state. Test results, and the students" high school records, will be . used" to determine capacity to profit from higher education. The new House Bill No* 380 enacted by the Illinois General Assembly provides scholarships for any resident of the state of Illinois of good character who will have completed high school by the end of this school year, is in the upper half of his class, who demonstrates superior capacity to profit from college work, and who is unable " to finance his college training. Honorary awards will be given to students wl\o qualify for scholarships but who are not in need of financial aid, stated Dr. Lyman J. Smith, executive director, who will assume his new duties on Jan. 1, 1958. Scholarships will begin with the 1958-59 school year and will cover tuition and other 'fees not in excess of $600. Winners may select any accredited institution of higher learning in Illinois. The first-year scholarships will be awarded on the basis, of two for residents of each Illinois senatorial district, two for residents of each representative district, and a sufficient number for residents of the state at large to use the remainder of the appropriation.
