The highlight of the evening will, be the secret guest speaker whose name will not be divulged until meeting time. It is known however that he is a well known and able author, editor and civi^ leader. He is also a known authority on community improvement and J# srive ifiany ideas on how we can improve our subdivision and even make it a modtel community. Association members are invited to come and may bring any guests along who. would Jike to come. Registrar Marilyn Van Zevern will be present before, during arid after the meeting to register any voters who have not already reg-> istered or changed their addresses. There are many benefits that will not be able to; enjoy in our community until we get Enough registered voters to carry some weight with the local politicians and county officials. So please, if you have failed to register or change your address, take advantage of this convenient opportunity to register without having to go outside of the* subdivision. Come Wednesday night and register and we will be able to ePbct many • improvements in our community without your association having to pay thQ cost. These plus many other features on the bill make our next meeting one that should not be missed. We'll be there, will you? Mother Nature News I awoke this morning with my usual list of household chores to f^sh before typing the column Araen I paused to look outside. A white, sparkling, jewel-like world greeted my sleepy but startled eyes. The heavy blanket of snow from our small blizzard still covered the ground. But during the night a thin cqat of ice and snow had fallen and coated the countryside. Each twig, bush and weed had become a shining, fragile crystal thing of t£tuty. Later as I typed my notes and racked my brain for more news I glanced out the window again. Perhaps it wouldn't have made the headlines but what could be more newsworthy than this sparkling masterpiece created by Mother Naturp hesrelf! « Next Week we will have a complete report the barn dance given by the en club last Friday flight. The Big: Snow stottn of last week changed the schedules and changed the plans of quite a few local residents and activities. The Brownie birthday party was postponed until this week and all other scout meetings were cancelled. The PTA meeting had to be cancelled which was a big disappointment to all who looked forward to hearing Dr. Griesbach speak on children's behavior.. They hope to have him scheduled some time in the near, future. The traffic and road conditions were the worst feature of the storm and many residents ended up stuck in a sngw drift or stranded "in the city. The children seemed to be the only ones happy with the snow and a day of vacation from school-. They have been in their glory sledding and plowing through waist high drifts. From Overseas;. Serviceman Dick Rapp is seeing his share of the world lately. He spent the two weeks after Christmas in Subic Bay, Philippines. ,Now he is in Hong Kong, China for. a' short stay. Dick should- have lots of tales and souvenirs from the four corners 6f the world when he returns. His family and. friends enjoy getting news of his travels and adventures. Pistakee Patter Angie Nielsofn was one of the Highlanders that had to get a shovel and start digging out the family car after the snow storm last week when she got stuck on the main road. She had lots of company. W^ hope Grace Reinhardt and Blanche Haefliger who had bad colds last week are feeling better now. That flu bug can be misery. Debbie Dobecki got stranded after the snow at the home of her playmate and constant buddy, Carol Erbin. The gals were elated at the storm which# gave them a good excuse to sleep together when Debbie had to stay overnight. Dolly Novotny had a few friends and their offspring in for a small luncheon last week. The afternoon was enjoyed by all. t d. February Features K ^ There will be another social Sunday in February. The club members will be settling down to a hard month of play rehearsals. The name ofNtJhe play is "Aaron Slick from Pumpkin Crick." To describe it briefly, one might say it is a comedy in which the old farmer gets ahead of the city "Slickers." It consists of three acts that guarantees a laugh a minute. When originally played on Broadway, it rolled up over 2000 performances. The dress rehearsal will be held Saturday afternoon, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m. and will be open to school age children. The rifle team received a request from Chicago team received a request from a Chicago team for competition, which is an indication tl^y are already being recognized. They spent last Saturday practicing firing positions and learning more of the fundamentals of rifles. A great time was on hand for the 'teen-agers this Saturday and Sunday as they tobogganed an Hart's H&l at Round Lake. There were a few spills, but that all adds to the fun. All of us are hoping tjie snow will be around for a while yet. Basketball went good last Monday. Again the boys beat the men. We hate to rub it in, you men, but it looks like you're out of condition. Let's see what happens next Monday. The last hour saw lots of action in a slam-bang volley ball game. We would like to see more of the wives turn out for1 this highlight.. It's great fun and you're guaranteed lots exercise. The hockey game, Sunday the nineteenth, ended with a fe>v bruises and some skinned shins, but everyone was ' looking forward to the next time. Looks like the snow will put a cramp on the hockey playing for the time being.
