On April 28, several of the scouts are to receive achievement badges. Mrs. Valerie Patterson is the den mother for this grout* of scouts. Brownies Mrs. LeRoy Marshall of Johnsburg, who is the den mot h e r f o r t h e B r o w n i e s , h a s planned a trip to a pottery place some time in June. Right now the youngsters are busy w o r k i n g on a M o t h e r ' s Day project. A cookie sale by these little girls is also in progress novy, and here's hoping that they have a very good turnout in the sale of these cookies. Initiation was held for Alice Orsetti, Virginia Brogan, June Baker and Nona Massheimer. Sponsors were J e a n C z a j k o u s k i and M a r g e Fernstrom. Five wdmen from the Crystal Lake chapter were our guests.. On April 3, Lopa Brever, Marge Fernstrom arid our green cap girl Madeline Mayfield went to Batavia. Madeline took part in the ritual work. After the meeting ice cream, cake roll and coffee was served by the home-making committee. Our special committee "The Academy of Friendship," was inj charge of the second meeti n g A p r i l 1 5 . I n i t i a t i o n was held for Helen Lannes, sponsored by Jean Czajkowski. Final plans were made to help with the men's installation of new officers on Tuesday evening, April 29. This is to be a joint meeting with a potluck supper. Remember to join us at this meeting. On Sunday, May 4, the new candidates will be taken into the Academy of Friendship &t Batavia. A rummage sale will be held all day at the Moose Lodge, Thursday, May 8 starting between 9:30 and 10 o'clock. Anyone having anything for the rummage sale, please leave it at the Moose Lodge after 4 o'clock or contact Ethel Wolff. A silenf auction will be held at the open meeting on May 6. The social meeting was held Saturday, April 19, and we had our election of officers. Those nominated for office were George Schumann, president; Jacqualine Cios, vice-president; Pat Jablonski, secretary; Sylvia Obstfelder, treasurer. It was voted that we have an initiation fee of three dollars to belong to the social club. Lunch was served after the meeting and a gay time was had by all. The young people was just leaving the church after the ceremony. As they sped away, the groom relaxed stretched and yawned, smiled at his new bride and said: "Now honey, about that nonsense of your quitting your job." He was born in Germany in 1846, coming to this country at the age of 2l He was preceded in death by his wife in 1911, and also by five children. Seven children survive. Mrs. xKate Surges, a former McHenry resident, passed away at her home in Milwaukee Sum day. The remains were brought to McHenry for burial. in Woodland cemetery. The People's State bank, of McHenry has .been merged with the larger bank and the best evidence that confidence has again b^en restored is the facts that the deposits have increased by £15,000 since the reopening.
