May 1, 1958 McCnllom Lake FRIENDS HOHOR LOCAL COUPlf WDM YEARS Eve Levesque ^Approximately sixty- five neighbors, friends, and rela tives gathered at the home* of Mr .and Mrs. Anton Lennert, Pochard Drive, to pay homage to the couple who celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Sunday, April 27. Jome of the invited guests the Lennerts attended the 9:30 a.m. Mass at which time they w^re congratulated. After the service, Katie and Tony were blessed by. Msgr. Nix, and at this time, he also blessed their wedding rings. A delicious dinner consisting of turkey, ham, roast beef, a huge assortment of salads, and Other trimmings was consumed wj|h gusto by the crowd. The "Wide" of fifty years, had prepared an elaborate array of the most delicious "tasty pas- ".try". The " piece de resistance" was the fourteen layer wedding cake which defies description! The Lennerts were both born ih 'Hungary and were childhood friends. They came to America and were wed in 1908. «wo children, son John and ghter, Regina, blessed t h'e unjon. Mr. and Mrs. John Lennert are the parents of Betty. Jo^n, and John, Jr. Regina married George Buri, and their children include George, J o - seph, Jack, and Kathleen. All were present on Sunday except Joseph and his wife who I are stationed in Germany with I th» Army. The Lennerts have j tw great-grandchildren. u>ther out-of-town relatives included Katie's brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Zellner and sons, Ronnie ,and David^ and Mrs. Elizabeth Klein. Topy's Sister, Mrs. Magdelene Spesl of Chicago fell and injured herself and was unable to attend. The Rev. Deepest Sympathy To Mr. and Mrs. George Kiddleson, former residents who now live in McHenry, on the u n t i m e l y l o s s o f , t f y e i r s o n , AMM1C W i l l a r d , who w a s stationed at Glenview Naval Air station at the time of his death. He passed away last Wednesday morning after a recurring and rather rare disease. Services were held Saturday afternoon, with interment at Woodlawn cemetery. Willard was loved and respected by his officers, the men with whom he worked, and everyone who met him. He died in the service of his country that he so dearly loved. His deep and abiding affection for his parents, brothers, and sisters, was known by all. The loss of this quiet, kind man will leave an aching void for a • long time. Miss Violet Elmer came down ^he aisle at Nativity Lutheran church, Wonder Lake, to be joined in"* marriage to Mr. Leonard Levy of Oak Park on Saturday, April 26. It was a lovely evening wedding with many out of town guests. The reception was held after the ceremony at the . V.F.W. Hall in McHenry. The couple left for a two week honeymoon in N?\v Orleans, La. Upon their*" return, they will reside with the b r i d e ' s m o t h e r , M r s . M a r i e Elmer, in her home on Fountain Lane. Mothers! Take Note Registration for kindergarten students will be held Friday, May 2 at the kindergarten building on Waukegan Street from 9 a.m. to. 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Parents are asked NOT to -bring the children at this time. A state birth certificate must be presented at this time. No registration will be accepted without a certificate. To be eligible for entry, , children must be 5 years old, on or before Dec. 1. Please register at this time. Ambulance Summoned While sawing wood" in her back yard, Mrs. Edith Johnson of Park View West, collapsed and required hospitalization on Sunday afternoon. Neighbors rushed to her aid, and called for the ambulance. Mrs. Alice Gustafson, a long time friend of the stricken woman, arranged to notify Mrs. Johnson's family, and accompanied her t o t h e M c H e n r y h o s p i t a l , where she . remained for a few days. According to. the dodtor's examination, she suffered a light stroke, which probably will cause no long lasting effect. Our sincere hopes for a speedy recovery for this plucky little lady! Look Your Homes and Garages Word has been received from Chief Larry Murray that home owners are warned to lock their homes, garages, and out buildings in which valuables are stored! In the event that you must be away, try to arrange with a neighbor to "keep an eye" on your property, if possible. Reports of malicious thievery have been reported to the police department. Cullom-Knoll The Cullom-Knoll association will resume its meetings for the fummer season on Sunday, May 4 at 2:30 p:m. in the b e a c h h o u s e . F r o m n o w , t h e meetings will be held on the first Sunday of each month. Keep In Mind That important meeting for the formulation of our own Little League on Tuesday, May 13 at McDonald's field. Each boy between the ages of 8-12 is invited with,.one or both of his parents. This'is wonderful training for the young lads in which they learn co-operation and good sportsmanship. DE WIRE Village Clerk ^ (Published May 1-8, 1958) Spring Grove HRBCNSAVE STORE FROM DESTRUCTION by Mrs. Charles Vieund It was only through the alertness and fast answer to the fire call by the Spring Grove firemen that Olson Grocery and Liquar Store was saved from burning down completely on Tuesday, April 22. A small blaze had started at the front service counter and quickly spread through the interior of the store. The firemen worked fast and furiously and the blaze was put out within an hour. Although there was considerable damage to the interior of the store the building was saved. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Olson and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Freund, who own the building are exteremely thankful to the firemen for their quick response and hard work at this fire. Also to the Richmond Fire Department for standing by and giving aid. The lotus School PTA held their meeting at the school on April 15. After the. meeting a program was presented. Cub Scouts Pack 83, Den 4 gave a play entitled. "A Mars Fantasy." The Spring Grove Methodist church choir conducted by school project was dicussed. There was cake and coffee served at the close, of the evening. third wedding anniversary Apr. 21. Their family was at their home on Sunday to help them celebrate. A pot luck supper was served and the evening was spent visiting. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Jim Busch, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Busch and family of McHenry; Mr. and Mrs. Larry Elfman and daughter"* of Richmond; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Walker and family of Silver Lake, Wis. Mr. and Mrs. Phil Rihda and Miss Jeanette Busch and Jack Busch. Death' c? 1 Mrs. Mary Freund, 89, died &t the home of her sister, Mrs. Archie Hergott at . East Troy, Wi$. on Saturday, April 19. She was a sister to Frank May, who just passed away last week preceding, her in death on April 13. Funeral services for Mrs. Freund were held at St. Peter's - church on Monday morning at ten, April 21. Interment was^ in St. Peter's cemetery.,, •"-'Ski Card Party. Club Meets Members of her club met* at the home ofMrs. Anna Huff on Thursday afternoon.
