Attend Lutheran Convention The Illinois Synod convention of the United Lutheran church in America was held at Luther Memorial Lutheran church in'Chicago, May 19 to 22. Representing Nativity, in addition to the Rev. Burton Schroeder, were Ted Leckband, who was lay-delegate, and Burneal Detwiler, lay-alternate, both of whom attended sessions of the convention. One of the keynotes of the convention was the use of the new service book -and hymnal which , has recently beer\ published and which will be used by eight of the major Lutheran bodies: This new hymnal is now being introduced at Nativity and will replace the present "Common Service Book in the Fall. Water, Water But Not ' # Everywhere The Illinois Commerce Commission is sending a representative to the Wonder Lake Fire House Thursday, May 29, to conduct a hearing relative to the service complaint of the resident of Wooded Shores about their water supply. The hearing will start at 9:30 a.m. at which time the grievances against the Wooded Shores Water Supply company will be enumerated'by the residents of the subdivision. Wooded Shores is the only subdivision with a community water supply, a private utility owned by Grover Wicklihe and operated under the code of the I.C.C. The eighty-five families in the subdivision have been without water, or with limited water supply for a few hours or all day, from time to time for two years. In the past month the conditio!) has become acute, as the pumps have required repair every few days in order to supply wiater. The community feels that the installation of a new adequate pump will solve the problem of water supply for them. Bible Church News Friday, May 23, a group of young people and adults will meet at the church at 5:30 p.m. to go by car to the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago to attend the very interesting "Sermons From Science" lectures. Anyone interested may check jvith Pastor Wright for details. The men of the church are planning to finish up the outside ^painting. Anyone wanting to help in this endeavor is invited to come, the men will be working. every evening except Wednesday. Home- Bureau News At the recent meeting of the Ringwood unit of Home Bureau at the home of Mrs. Harold Seebach in Holiday Hills, Mrs. George Spindler of Sunnyside Estates was Be guest. This subdivision is planning to start an evening group and Mrs. Spindler wanted to see how the Ringwood unit conducts its meetings. Nominees for office for the coming year are Mrs. Donald Swanson, president; Mrs. Harold Seebach, vice-president; Mrs. Anna Nagle, secretary; Mrs. Joseph Waynne, corresponding- secretary; Mrs. Ralph White, treasurer. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Ed. Muchow on Tuesday, June 3. At this meeting dues for the coming year will be due and payable. Mother and Daughter Tea A planning meeting for the mother-daughter tea was held at the home of Mrs. June Rink last week. Those present were the Mrs. Melvina Knackstedt, Gerry Sullivan, Katherine Walker, Fetal Paetow, Harriette Wilson, Alice Murdock, Velma Sinclair, Helen Pedersen and Lorraine Maxstedt. Twenty Brownie Fly-ups will be invested in the program, which will take place Sunday in the Harrison school gym. Intermediate scouts will get their merit awards also ^at the tea. Refreshments will be served consisting of cookies, tea and coffee. Promotion For BUI Mrs. Mary Lou Hartog recently received word from her son, Bill. Merritt, that he had just been promoted to second class petty officer. Bill has also graduated from high school via the armed services. He has been stationed in Japan since January and writes that he is thoroughly enjoying his travels through Japan,, China, Formosa and ther Philippines. End Of Season - The Wonder Woods Women's association will have its last meeting for the year Monday, May 26, at 8 p.m. in the recreation room of the Bob'Sandgren home in Wonder Woods. The evening? will be given over to a social time and refreshments will be served. The ladies will recess until September due to the full summer schedules. : Memorial Day Parade The Robert Vanderstracften Post No. 1169 of the American Legion in Wonder Lake has announced the parade line-up and program for its annual Memorial Day program May 30. The welcome will be given fiy commander James Widen followed by the invocation spoken by Rev. Burton Schroeder of the Nativity Lutheran church. The national anthem will be played by the students of the accordion school, directed by Mrs. Eleanor Schlottman. James Kinzie, senior vice commander will voice the Gettysburg address, and Robert Cavins will repeat General Logan's orders. The scout honor guard will then place a wreath at the base Of the monument in the triangle in Wonder Center. The Harrison school band, under the direction of Marvin Wenck, will play "America" followed by a salute from the rifle squad led by Robert Kiddell, commander. Sew-N-Sews Last Meeting The Sew-N-Sews met for the last time of the season Thursday, May 15, at the home of Mrs. Donald Swanson. The ladies will spend the summer sewing on their projects ,in preparation for Holiday Hospitality in the fall. A nice luncheon was served and a sociable time spent over the stitches. The clothing all came, from the Toddler Shop in McHenry and the show was narrated by Mrs. Mary Kauss. In the center 4>t the stage was a huge package1, wrapped in "white paper and tied with a red bow. Each, child was asked to guess what was inside on his first appearance onstage. The second tiine around, each child was ihvited to peek through a hole in the box before making his guess. In bending to peek the models displayed a quantity of beruffled undergarments- to the audience. Winners of the guessing game were Susie La Greca, daughter of the Jack LaGrfecas, and Mike Cristy, son of the Jay- Cristys. Both guessed a mouse and were rewarded with the stuffed image of one. The Wonder Lake dancing school ehtertanied with 2 tap and 2 ballet selections. There were thirty-four children looking lovely in pastel skirts over their black leotards Miss Pat McCurdy had a solo ballet number also. The stage looked very nice decorated with fresh lilacs and the show was well received by the 115 persons in the audience. Mrs. Donald Swanson and Mrs. Anthony Weretka were two who took the conducted tour of the McHenry hospital last Wednesday as part of the observance of National Hospital Week. They were shown the emergency room, the operating rooms, the therapy room and were surprised to learn that the hospital accommodates only twenty-one patients. . A surprise birthday party for Anthony Willeg was successfully carried out Friday night, May 16, planned by his wife and four children. Ernie Vogt of Wonder Center has just returned from a six months stay in St. Petersburg, Fla.
