•Four AXX- 9*EAFC^ We are real pleased to have a report this week from our high school wrestling coach, Jerome Kalk," on the splendid progress made by the team this year. We asked for the review and now ask that you sports fans read the story on this j>age. There are many gaps in athletic programs, but wrestling has filled a big gap by giving boys an opportunity to compete in a he-man sport in their own weight class. Coach Kalk and his boys are at the top of the conference standings with several decisive team victories. They deserve a hand. It is old news now, but let it suffice to mention that McHenry High lost to Crystal Lake in the finals of the county tournament. The boys looked real classy in winning "their way to the finals. but were colder than the weather against the champs. They worked in for shots, then missed too many. Anyhow, we were better than five other teftms. Woodstock's Blue Streaks come to town Friday night for a game that may turn into a real wingding. The Streaks threw a scare Harrington, here. The McHenry County Semi-Pro Basketball League will hold a four-day tournament in Algonquin starting February 13. There will be two games each night, starting at 7:30. They come and go, but after almost 14 years of high scoring basketball, the 40 points produced by Andy Phillip of the famed Whizz Kids still stands as Illinois' one-game record. We have an interesting letter from W. J. Marum, formerly of Woodstock, concerning county tournaments. Just located our "County Cage Classics" so will Jiave ^to wait another week to give this enough space. .DAILY PINUPS: •r Life is filled with tricks" and ' treats, many victories and defeats; much of gloom, much more of glory, such is life's continued story. Buss Motors won the match over Pa's Tavern 3054 to 2941. And that means actual pins! Believe it or not, seven bowlers in the match went over the 600 mark. Sonny Miller was top man with a 660 series . Hans Behnke, operator of the Palace, was off his usual game, but the boys consoled him with the thought that he will do better "when you get used to the alleys." There are almost 35,000 more geese in Illinois this year than in 1955. The duck census showed a big decrease. Only 288,000 ducks were counted at Union County and Horseshoe Lake. The reason for this is probably the severe weather conditions right after the seas on, ended. Most of the ducks must have headed for the south. 1823 hunters bagged 1803 geese at Union County. 1536 hunters at Horseshoe Lake bagged 62 per cent of a goose apiece. The public hunting area down there will be completed by next fall and it should offer some fine shooting. Pheasant hunters in the Des Plaines area really outnumbered the birds. They managed to bag 1.33 per cent of pheasants apiece. Total revenue collected for the use of public hunting grounds in Illinois equalled $87,307, almost $4000 more than last year. We are sorry to say we made a mistake in saying that cars would not he allowed on Lake Geneva this year. The Warriors of McHenry High lost a tough overtime battle to Warren on the Gurnee floor last Friday night 71 to 68. So close was the struggle that not more than two points separated the teams at the end of any period. Jim Huemann's 21 points topped the scoring, closely followed by Rudin with 20. McHenry trailed by one poinl at the end of the half and again at the three quarter mark, then picked it up to end the game in a 65 tie. The overtime "found Warren outscoring the Warriors 6 to 3 to end the game.
