VETS CELEBRATE THREE EVENTS NEXT THURSDAY The World War I veterans of McHenry will celebrate triple events on Thursday, June 26 at*8.p.m. The scene of the festjP&ties is the American Legion home' on Green street. ' It is to be charter night and the first ladies' night, with officers tq be installed in a simple ceremony. Commander Kinsey and his corps of officers will be hosts to Clark Fickes of Rockford, assistant chief of staff, and the officers of the McHenry posts of the American Legion and V.F.W. on this occasion. Mr. Hokes and Mr. Sanders, state officers,'will also be invited. The commanders and officers of Wonder. Lake and Richmond American Legion posts are also invited. The wives of the World War I veterans will participate in the evening's celebration by serving refreshments. City officials are * being invited to attend. This group of McHenry men who became the first members of Veterans Bartacks No. 1315, has grown from a handful of about nine to a membership of fifty-nine in a few short months. The parent organization is well known in Illinois. It was organized in 1949 for the purpose of protecting the interests of World War I vets. Commander Kinsey invites eligible vets to join the group. CAR IN FLAMES AFTER ACCIDENT: NINE ARE INJURED Nine suffered minor injuries when one of two cars involved in a collision on Rt. 176 and Williams Park road, southeast of McHenry, was destroyed by fire Saturday night. An auto driven by Susan Sturm of Chicago, westbound on the highway, was struck in the rear by a car driven by Raymond Tallman of Waucon- 8a, which was said to be starting to p&ss. The Sturm vehicle burst into flames a short time after the impact but the occupants m a n a g e d t o g e t t o s a f e t y . NOVAK TAKES UP NEW DUTIES AT |IcHENRY CHURCH During the past two weeks, members of St. Patrick's Catholic church have been making the acquaintances of a new assistant pastor, Rev. Cosmos W. Novak, O.S.B. Fr. Novak is a native of Chicago and completed his high school, college and seminary courses at St. Procopius, Lisle, fll., where he received a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy and . in education. He also received an M.S.A. degree from Loyola university in Chicago and has done post-graduate work at the Catholic university of Washington, D.C., in adolescent psychology. As a member of the Benedictine Order, Fr. Novak was Ordained to the priesthood on Dec. 17, 1944, at St. Procopius abbey. From 1948 to 1956 he was stationed at St. Joseph's orphange in Lisle and during this period also taught in the social science department in the college and in the seminary at I^isle. From 1956 to the present t?me he served as assistant at S|t. Joan of Arc parish in Lisle. AT TRAINING CENTER Sue Stinespring is attending a Methodist youth caravan training center, June 10-20, at Hendrix college, Conway, Ark., in preparation for voluntary service in Methodist churches this summer. After the training period, the caravaners will serve six weeks, with teams of five working for one-week periods in many churches.
