John Sell, general manager of the General Telephone bompany said, " I wish the people at Wonder Lake would get it through their heads that incoming long distance calls are dialed direct from the point of origin and ai;e not handled by the operators at the switchboard' at Richmond". The difficulty arises, of bourse, when the number dialed is the "old" number, and the party gets a "don't answer" redead" number. 4- DR. HENRY FREUND OPTOMETRIST Al 136 S. Green Street. FRIDAY EVENINGS: 6:00 TO 8:80 P.M. EVENINGS BY APPOINTMENT PHONE McHENRY 452 To put it another way the Richmond board has no way of intervening with "that number has been changed" information. The same thing operates on calls dialed within Wonder Lake too, of course.:' One solution thaft occurs to us is the printing of a \nevv phone directory when the percentage of change numbers renders the old directory obsolete, say about four times a year. Or the printing of a supplement to the directory every month or so. Asi "is, Mr. Sell suggests that you check the number with the operator if you get. a "don't answer" report. We would think this would completely bog down the Richmond board, which is limping badly at present as anyone who tries to get number "9" vary- testify.
