Our , jpwn All Stars were scheduled to play the Wonder Lake All- '^ars, at 1 p.m. After the ball gaiti|T weather ^permitting, the coaefie^ and managers hoped to have' a picnic for all the lads who played „,hard for the.glory dythe com- J munity. For some of the young Vi)^ds, it was their first Venture into the field of baseball. The men in charg# were interested not so much in producing topnotch ball players as they were with the idea of installing good Sportsmanship into the minds of all the young fellows. With out a doubt, we think this purpose Was accomplished. Hats off!! Bill Brennan and Luther Watson of the little "MSox," to Bud Harrison and Gene Frost, of the "Cubs," and •to Merv Schmitt, Odell Gelvin, •and Jake Levesque of the "Braves" for a fine job, well ' clone. These men gave up many 'evenings in order to coach the youngsters in all the phases of 'baseball. Jake also had the thankless position of acting as umpire for a good many of the ^ games, and did an excellent job it. "^The entire organization is hoping for a bigger and better season next year. 4<H«uey Dew" Vacation Bill Creutz has returned to his regular job, after spending two -weeks on a honey dew vacation. With his ever lovin' Eleanor directing, it was, "Honey, do this" and "honey, do that"! Lots of chores getting accomplished this way! spend some time with her chum of many years, Mrs. Lou Gielow. It was Lou's birthday, and ;the women "did the town" --dinner, shopping, artfj sightseeing. , / ? First Grandchild Baptized Mr. and Mrs. Sam Deskis attended the christening services held for their first grandchild on Sunday, Aug. 24 at St. Mary's church, Woodstock. Little miss Susan Marie, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Deskis of Woodstock, was sponsored by Mrs. Edna Walter of Chicago and Alex Apuzza of Melrose Park. The officiating priest was Father Egan. Because of illness, the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wollak of Lilymoor were unable .to attend. Ladies of the Lake The women's organization will resume their regular meetings the second Thursday in September--the date being the eleventh at 8 p.m. in the befechhouse. Big doings for the fall. At this time, the results of the bake sale held Aug. 30 will be revealed. ' AJ1 the women in the community are invited and encouraged to attend and join. -'Nuther reminder next week. Sad News on Return Mr. and Mrs. Willard Schultz and daughter, Lynne, returned from their vacation last week in time to be greeted- with the unhappy news that Will's father, Charles Schultz, had been h o s p i t a l i z e d . He u n d e w e n t surgery on Tuesday of last week. The Schultzes departed our shores to spend some time with cousins, Shirley and Lester Ericksen and their three darling daughters, in Cooperstown, N. D. From there, Theresa. At this time, ohief of police Larry Murray drew up an excellent set of rules and regulations governing the behavior of the officers at all times. Included were •<*«rders pertaining to dress, use of the squad car, attitude of officers when stopping anyone for any violation, etc. The purpose of this is to protect the men and our own civilians. At this time, a committee will be selected to propose nominations for the election to be held in October.- Overseas Visitors Erling Olsen of Orchard Drive was thrilled with the arrival of his sister and her family for a short visit recently. Mr. and Mrs. Leif Wiik and their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ariel Wiik and two youngsters, motored here from Washington, D. C. on their way to Los Angeles. The Wiiks have b.een in this country for about 8 months. During this time, Mr. Wiik learned how to drive, purchased a new automobile and then started cross country. Pretty good going. Erljng was amazed when he called the dog they had with him, and the canine recognized his voice and obeyed immediately. It has been five years since the pooch last heard Erling speak to him!
