Dorothy Hiller left late last week for Iowa, where she will start the fall term teaching $chool. Catherine Dehn and "yours truly" were in Chicago last Th^sday, where they acted as go-hostesses at a pink and blue Shower for Rita Davis. In that short'v year, your association has done quite well in spite of obstacles, etc. It is only with your coopera t i o n a n d b a c k i n g t h a t t h e officers can accomplish the things that are assigned to them. She received some lovely gifts and enjoyed it even more because she had thought the days of surprising her were a thing of the past. Call Lois Anderson at McHenry 2065-J for further information. Hospitalized By now, we hope Betty Lakowske is back home and on her way to recovery after her stay in the hospital. Maybe a card or note from som£ of us would help over the days of convalescence. (Joinings and Goings Laird Kayler spent his tenday furlough painting and getting things in order around the house. Those ten days sped by and he has again resumed his duties at Fort Sheridan. One last weekend of relaxation before getting into the work-a-day routine of back to school, Adeline Zeiger and the boys, Jerry and David, drove to Valparaiso, Ind. The trip by car was made with Mr. and Mrs. M. McGovern of Spring" Grove, who are Ad's sister and brother-in-law. The home of the Teufert family in Valparaiso, another of Ad's sisters, was t h e i r d e s t i n a t i o n , w h e r e they spent two beautiful days taking life, easy and talking over the good ol' days. The amendments to the bylaws were approved and pefssed and there was much talk about the s bazaar planned for Dec.' 6th. Some ladies brought along their handiwork and we were given many ideas on making things for the different booths. Games were played and many laughs were heard. Dorothy Erbin walked off with a prize for putting on the most nylqns, but a few of the other ladies gave her a run tot her money. After the meeting, coffee and cake Were served. Thanks to Wanda Dobecke, Dbrothy Erbin and Lee Conway for their cakes. Try to make the next meeting. It should be fun. Deepest Sympathy to Mrs. Margaret McNamara and her daughter, Peggy, on the recent death of George McNamara. His many friends and neighbors send their deepest sympathy. Hurt in Accident Sonny Wright fell out of a tree near the store Wednesday. He landed on -the barb wire fence and then hit the ground. The first executive meeting for P.T.A. was held at the home of Dot Erbin Tuesday evening, Sept. 2. J Teen Club The teens all enjoyed a beautiful day for ,;their picnic on Thursday^ held at Big Foot Beach, Wis. Twenty-five dollars was sent by an anonymous donor for the Terry Phillips fund. Our sincere thanks. Don Bentz and Barb Schlick visited Terry last week. The 'teens are fixing a package of various goodies and books to send to him to help him pass the time more quickly. Don't forget to drop him a card. Barbara Beamer and Ginger Cinami were accepted as members in the 'teen club. Don Bentz hurt his hip at football practice and is to see a doctor. Jimmy Peloauin will be home Monday for a twenty-one day leave. Bill Schlick visited Terry Phillips and reports he can move his arms, Shoulders and legs. The 'teens won the baseball game Sunday afternoon by a score of 26-20. Delia and Bob Wesselink and their son, Bryan, left Thursday for Ohio to spend the Labor Day weekend with some of their friends. Mr. and Mrs. Haddock enjoyed the company of their son, Bob, his wife aiid their two children Sunday. Mrs. Remke, Bill Schlick's mother, spent the Labor Day weekend here in the Highlands. Dolly Novotny was pleasantly surprised Wednesday by a visit from her sister-in-l^vy, and her children and Dolly's mother, Mrs. Linden, of Chicago. Mrs. Anna Cohrs has just returned after a few days' visit with her son in Melrose Park. The Spankuchs have been spending a few days in Chicago with Toot's mother. Th^y saw a play Saturday and'went nightclubbing. Their son, Ronnie, is at home "batchin' it." Carl and Blanche Haeflinger enjoyed the weekend holiday . Blanche just sat In the super dome and had nothing at all to worry about, and really enjoyed the weekend. Dick Morley was busy last week digging out Bob VanZevern's old T.V. antenna pole and putting it in his own yard for a flag pole. Still trying to figure out who got the best of that deal. Kay Sielisch took her niece, Cathy Daley, to the Grand Central depot in Chicago last Saturday, where she met her mother; who will take Cathy to Grand Rapids, Mich.'_ Kay and Willy will miss her^Very njuch. They enjoyed the pajtter of little feet immensely. A. George Neesen's father _wjll spend a few days with them, taking in all this fresh air. Jerry Janquarts' dog, "Duke" won two trophies! for obedience at the dog show in Lombard. Both trophies were for fourth place. Y Renee Janquart ^^lettfmed her eighth birthday with a group of her friends. Those enjoying cake, ice cream and a l l t h e o t h e r g o o d i e s . w e r e Linda Slugga, Janice Erbin, Janet Thoreri, Kathy Mason and Linnea Medine. When Michael Conway patches a fish he lets people know about it. That boy was so thrilled when he caught that fish that the exec, meeting that was being held at Marsha Dowd's home had to stop and see it. It was a nice fish and we don't blame him for being excited. He had it weighed and measured for the fishing rodeo. HazeT Lilymoor Garden Club - Has Success , by Alma Hueckstaedt The Lilymoor Garden Club again had a busy weekend, this time at the Men's Garden club flower show at Woodstock. Their entry was a picture box titled "Song- of , Hiawatha," which won them a third place ribbon. Their picture box depicted the scene of Hiawatha's wooing by the Falls of Minnehaha, with-a backdrop of forest composed of evergreen branches. High and the backdrop stars and the moon overlooking the entire scene. v Club members winning ribbons were: Mrs. Donald Leske, Mrs. M. A. Haines, Mrs. Herman Crawley, and Mrs. Elvina Latimer. Other winners from Lilymoor^were Mrs. William Zahn/>Mrs. ^Vernon Ehradt, Mrf. John Behrehdt and Mrs. Robert Bartlett. Lilymoor, Association The next monthly meeting of the association will be on Tuesday evening, Sept. 9. Mark this date on your calendar now so you won't forget it. There should be a good turnout now that vacations are over and children are back in school. Plans are under way for the Halloween dance. In regard to the street name signs, Mr.* Revard deserves thanks for putting up the sign for Knollwood avenue. Anyone else interested in putting up the signs for their own, or any other street, may do so with the appreciation of the community because with these street signs we can all get more familiar with our subdi-. vision once we start learning the names of streets or roads said they enjoyed delipioua s t e a k s b r o i l e d o u t s i d e . T h e y celebrated Mr. Speck's birthday. Marilyn VanZevern (BOB) spent the day in Villa Park visiting her school chum. Mary Madock attended a w e d d i n g s h o w e r f o r a g i r l friend in Chicago last week. Agnes Sanborne spent last Wednesday afternoon at her mother's in Fox Lake. Agnes' mother suffered a severe hand injury a couple of weeks ago when she got it caught in the wringer of her washing machine. Happy birthday to both of you and may you have many, many more. Hospital Notes - We were very sorry and surprised to hear of the unexpected surgery that Mrs. Elmer Kroncke underwent. Mr. Hueckstaedt is home now after almost one week at McHenry hospital. Mrs. Jean Czajkowski, former owner and manager of the Kountry Kitchen, is at home in Lakeland Park recuperating from an appendectomy.--^ General News ,/ Credit for the weed trimming on the Lily Lake double drive. road goes to Lawrence Scheurr and Mr. Hiieckstaedt. If your corner is overgrown with high weeds blocking your view of any traffic that may be coming, it would be appreciated greatly if some of the men or boys would go out and cut the brush so everyone would have a clear view at corners. It may save some of us from becoming involved in an accident because of the thickness and height Of weeds and small trees. Several boys on South avenue did a very good job on moving down the prairie so they- can play ball. They probably didn't realize that doing this may cut down on the amount of mosquitos. Praise for this job goes out to the Zahn boys, the Gray boys, Charles Pulliam, Dutch Hueckstaedt and his cousin, George Russell, who incidentally won't be around long enough to really enjoy it as he left the Hueckstaedt home Labor Day weekend for Big Rapids, Mich, to return to school. He's been a nice boy to have around. Mr. and Mrs. Caho and two children visited Mrs. Tobey on Aug. 27 from their home in Streator, 111. They had a very enjoyable time at Pistalfee Bay.
