The diminuitive "bride" was tastefully gowned in black with gold trimming and wore black accessories and was pinned with a lovely corsage. Sid was his usual handsome self. "Lottie, her sister, Genevieve Sulkowski of Chicago, and daughter, Phyllis Piotrowski, had been sitting outside in the very spot and had moved away just moments before the accident occurred. The local contractor who erected the building, shored up the walls until the damage can be repaired. 1 Deepest Sympathy To; Larry and Earl - Murray on the sudden passing of .their mother, Mrs. Mabel Murray, 72, and a widow, on .Monday, Sept. 1. Services were held last Thursday at the Matz Funeral home in Chicago with interment at Forest Park cemetery. 'Both local, families attended. Mrs. Murray had been living with her daughter, Mrs. Eva Lynn in Mattison, 111. A few weeks ago, while v Mrs. Lynn was on vacation, her mother spent two weeks with Betty and Larry. During her visit, she suffered a light stroke and was treated by a local physician. She apparently recovered and returned to her home. On the Saturday before her death, she suffered another attack, severe An elaborate spread of ro"as%Lthis time, and was hospitalized. She passed away without recovering consciousness. Our sympathy to both of the. mer in their bereavement. "Shot In the Arm" The letters which went out concerning the Cullom - Knoll association proved that our villagers are interested in the fate of the beach and the club. A grand response to the letters brought in many dollars worth of dues. As a result, there were enough members present at the accompanied by father Gene. water. This time, the door will be locked BEFORE the )?orse gets away!" Another issue which was passed without objection was the project of keeping the grassy area' cut at all times. Beginning in May, the beach will be mowe<l and kept that way throughout all of next summer! It's wonderful the way our residents rallied for the purpose of choosing candidates for the election to be held tlie first Sunday in October. They should be submitted as soon as possible! • Mission Accomplished. All have returned to work except Bill, who is still a junior high student! Stars In Their Eyes It is with a great deal of pride that Mr. and Mrs. Gene Piotrowski announce the engagement of their daughter, Phyllis,' to Mr. Dennis Straumann who resides in the community. Phyllis received a beautiful diamond ring last week--to make it official! The couf>le have no immediate nuptial plans since Phyl still has to finish her 'last year at the local high school. These two delightful young people have been "keeping company" for a long time and have enjoyed a wonderful friendship which has the blessings of both families. Dennis' parents live in Minneapolis and this summer, he took his intended to his home to meet her future-in-laws. They were l~let grow from a' smlill Commiin- |%ooe$t Aity of one or two houses to each block to its present large population, and they were very ' much a part of its progress. Several .years ago, they ,sold their property and moved to McHenry where they now reside. About 4:30 p.m. Fri- ;',day afternoon, one of our local young ladies was driving the family vehicle with her stepfather alongside. As she turned meeting on Sunday to constitute a quorum and a greatdeal was accomplished! The big project which was proposedJ and approved concerns adding sand to Jthe water. This winter, plastic will be spread on the ice covering an area 200 feet wide and extending 200 feet into the Jake. . A foot of sand Will be spread evenly over the plastic. As the ice melts, plastic and sand will be lowered into the lake.Won't it be divine nooit to feel the mush, and rrcss 'that' has plagued swimmers for too long? A white nylon cord will be strung along the swimming area with cork floats at intervals to keep out the boats. Signs will also be posted* in the lake warning the "yachters" to KEEP AWAY! Too many complaints were received of boaters coming into the swimming area, thereby endangering the youngsters playing in the Another "surprise" came to the Piotrowskis on Sunday;, when Lottie's girlfriend ant) husband drove out from" Cicero to celebrate, their silver wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Dedic were accompanied by their three, sons, a sister- in-law, and t\yo neighbors. The bride wore an orchid corsage. He Really Can can. In an effort to stock up pn some good old fashioned sauerkraut Bill Crist had an accident. The crock he was going to use slipped and cut his hand which required a trip to the doctor for stitches. He has, very good naturedly, put up with the ribbing he has been getting as a result. Hope everything heals up quickly, Bill, and that on your next canning venture you have better luck. Notice Once again we have been asked by Mr. Thelen who has the farm south of us to keep the children away from his barns. There were some 'teen-agers seen on the premises about a week ago and the following morning Jerry found his wire cut and quite a bit of silage strewn around the barn.. As Jerry put it, we certainly would not appreciate about thirty cows running over, our lawns and gardens. Aside* from this startling predicament no one, we are sure, .would care to see their children inolved in a tussle with the law. He has had our cooperation in the past and is confident of it again; these things have a I way of being forgotten unless A we are reminded now &nd then. Hospitalised By now we hope Jc Davis knows . the identity of that bothersome varmit which has been making-him feel , so punk these past weeks. Here's hoping for a short stay in the hospital and a speedy recovery. Happy Birthday .y, ^, to pretty little Gail McDonald who will be 3 on Sept. 16. She is her dad's little "G'. as it was his fclea to her Gap Elaine McDofiald. ^ * Another birthday greeting, is extended to Helen Kobus toh Sept 17. Plans will very shortly get under way for the Halloween party which we hope can become an annual affair. II is everyone's hope that it can be just as successful this year as last. The committee will need the cooperation of anyone who is willing to help so call 2065-J if you have any ideas or suggestion's so that we can make ttUs a community affair. The kids enjoy this sort of thing and it isn't < too soon to get rolling on the I details. lAwKinmil Rom where I sit... Joe Marsh She's Got Dad's "Number" Dad Fowler and his Mrs. are about to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary--so | asked them if there's any "secret" to this kind of wedded bliss. "Oh we've had our arguments," said Dad, "but for fifty years I made it a point to count to fourteen before any argument cou}d turn into a real quarrel.. Fourteen -- because that's exactly the amount of money I had the day we were .married." "From now on," smiled Mrs. Fowler, "you better count*to twelve. The two dollars for the marriage license was mine." From where I sit, we all need some kind of formula for getting alone with each other. The best one I know Is "tolerance" -- the business of live and let live. It has to do with little things, too, like your preference for tea, and mine for beer. Let's count to ten, twelve or fourteen --and never let oar differences turn into quarrels. Copyright, 1958.
