Brownie Troop If there are any ladies who would be interested in starting a Brownie Troop for the girls you can also contact Mrs. Okal for this. What is needed here are two leaders and three committee women. There are a lot of little girls who would like to become Brownies but cannot do so because of the long waiting lists, but by starting one here in our own subdivision, we can give at least a few of our girls a start. Sliphtly Late A combination birthday and Thanksgiving dinner was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Glorch with their two sons and their families, namely Mr. and Mrs. Robert Glorch and son and baby daughter and Mr. and Mrs? Local Fire The Kountry Kitchen oh Rt. 120 in Lilymoor was destroyed by fire early Tuesday morning Dec. 2._ The cause of the fire was of undetermined origin. The old building will have to be replaced by a new one before it can be opened for business again. The property js owned bv Jean Czajkowski of Lakeland Park. Ciiution I have been asked to once again remind the residents to please reduce their speed on the roads in the subdivision to 10 to 15 mph. and also ask their friends and relatives to do the same. Many drivers do not realize the dangers. With winter here the roads become a little more hazardous with every snowfall. Parents should warm their children of the dangers of playing on icy roads not only for the injury they can receive by falling while sledding on the ice and having snow ball fights but that cars can not stop easily on ice to avoid the children. Roads will be sanded as often as possible and plowed when needed. Boy Scouts Troop 131 of the McHenry Community Methodist church held parents night on Dec. 1. RABBIT NOT IN DANGER Because" of its high reproduction rate and ability to take advantage of cover, the cot- Hontail rabbit is in little danger from overshooting in the hunting season. Nov. 22 through Jan. 20, Dr. Rexford D. Lord said in reporting on a co-operative study of the Illinois Natural.; History Surrey and the state Department of Conservation. The study was made on two 100-acre areas in Piatt county, one open to hunting and the other maintained as a sanctuary. On both areas, winter mortality was high: 74 per cent on the sanctuary and 88 per cent on the area where hunting was allowed. Hunters bagged only 40 per cent of i the rabbits that died during the , winter on the hunted area. Village of Sunnyside Snow Removal For Village Irma Gunther--1577-J The snow plowing for the year has been settled, and Frank May will be removing the snow for the village/ For the villagers who may need sand to help them get up the hills we want them to keep the ! following four locations in mind ! because sand piles will be there I for their use. They will be at I Lakeview and Sunset road., Lakeview and Spring Creek; Channel' Beach and Spring Creek road; Channel Beach and Sunset road. This plan worked so well last- year, that is why it is being Used again this year. Bus Shelter, A serious request has been made of .'ill the residents of the; village. Will you please speak to: your children about climbing oh the top of the bus shelter?- This bus shelter was put there witjh the hopes, .of keeping the children- of the village safe and warm. This climbing is dangerous to the child who is, climbing and to the innocent- bystanders. If we parents will co-operate I'm sure the children will also. Ice - Skating I hope the parents remind their children that when they are ice-skating they should bo careful when using other people's property especially the docks and to be sure the chil-„ dren don't leave debris ofi the ice because there are some pretty young ones who skate. Home Bureau Well all of us members are getting ready for our Christmas party on the thirteenth. Besides a delicious homecooked meal there will be Santa Claus for the children and I'm sure he will have gifts for all the good boys and girls. Well friends and neighbors I'm afraid that this is all the news I have and I hope it improves next week, because I'm sure some of you will be doing something. . Birthday The only one we can wish birthday greetings to is Marion Pflug who celebrated her birthday on Nov. 30. CARD OF THANKS I would like to thank my neighbors Mrs. Mary Mecko, Mrs. Beier, Mrs. Weiss and to Mr. Obstfelder for helping me when I had to go into the city when my brother passed away, and to the neighbors for their thoughtful cards.- *32 Irma Gunther. SHOP IN McHENRY DRIVING HAZARDS The Illinois Traffic Safety division last week urged motorists to prepare for winter driving hazards. Robert Campb&ll, state co-ordinator of traffic safety, said that even t^ugh Illinois was not hard hit by the ; first major storm of the sea- , son, winter rapidly is approaching and every motorist in tbe I state should "winterize" his driving habits:. "Good tires i and tire chains are important j to safe driving during the winter months," Campbell de- ; elared. Reduced speed is a must during the winter he said, because it takes thri®. to twelve times longer to stop on snow find ice than it does under normal conditions. He urged motorists to make sure windshield wipers, heaters and defrosters are in goodworking 'order. A window should be opened slightly to prevent windi shield fogging, he said. 'IAD THE WANT ADS!
