Along with Mr. Thoren were Rev. Mellor, Archie Fletcher, Hazel Rogde and Dick Morley and others whose names I was unable to get. We hope to have a nice showing at the Christmas service. If you are interested feel welcome to attend. Mr. Mueller's home at 112 High St. and service at 7 p.m. Dick Morley spent his day off from work stringing lights and getting his records going to serenade the neighborhood with Christmas songs. The school children enjoyed a party last Friday at school. Each brought a gift for the Parents in Districts 15 and 156 are being asked to report to school f authorities the names of any handicapped children who are not now attending classes. Grade and high school building principals and the school "nurse, Mrs. Pauline Pries, R. N-., will record names and reports will be held confidential. Final classification , of the child will occur only after consultation with the parents and a follow-up diagnosis through individual examination by representatives of the psychological and medical professions. The Illinois' School Code requires that an annual census of handicapped children be taken by county superintendents of schools through the school districts, and that reports be submitted to the state superintendent of public instruction. The law requires that children both in and out of school be enumerated. An adequate statewide program for the education of handicapped children depends to a great degree on early detection and diagnosis. The reason for this census is thus to locate children who may need special education or welfare services. The exceptional child is one who has a physical handicap, a speech or hearing problem, difficulty with vision, social or emeiionai maladjustment, or an intellectual malfunctioning. BONDS WM. H.
