Starting at 3 p.m. there will be sled and toboggan races for all j^es. At 4 p.m. the judging of ^now sculpture will take place. Anyone feeling artistic can walk, off with a trophy by creating something in their front ya^d. At 8:30 in the evening there' will be a dance at the community center for th§ adults only. Starting Sunday at 12:45 p.m. Ice skating races , for 7 year olds and-under, i to 1:15; 8 tfUO year olds, 1:15 to 1:30; 11 10 13 year olds. 1:30 to 2 p.m., all teens 14 and"over 2 to 2:30 men and women races and from 2:30 to 3:30 figure skating contest for everyone. Afterwards a hockoy game will be held between the men and boys. Trophies will be awarded to the winners of all events. Hot dogs, coffee and hot chocolate will be on sale all day. Tl« exciting event will be held on the channel across from Dobeoki's home. Sounds like fun, try and be there. Maybe YOU will win a trophy. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Brown welcomed their son-in-law back from Germany, where he was discharged from the service and at the same time said goodbye to their son, Eddie, who left with the armed forces for GtCinany. We wish both men loads of best wishes in the future. Mrs. Betty Croasdale received a beautiful orchilette corsage from her nephew, Clifford Lindstrom, who is stationed with the Marines in Hawaii. Jill Reilly had loads of fun at a skating party in Johnsburg with some friends. Lrtst Tuesday morning Marge Mflfeth had a demonstration .and breakfast for a few lucky ladies. Hazel Rodge, Muriel Peterson, Mrs. Schuble, Mrs. Hart and Mrs. Basebur enjoyed the morning viewing articles sampling coffee and sweet rolls. Dee Gregg had a wonderful time last Sunday at Orchestra Hall in Chicago Dee was presented with tickets for her butfjida.v from her mother-inlaTT. Dee is very fond of ^classical music and she certainly .enjoyed the piano recital. Ed and Virginia Thoren enjoyed dinner with the Ed Hayward family in McHenry last weekend. We are glad to hear that Joe Ullo is feeling much better and back on the job after suffering a sprained back. f&appy anniversary to Marilyn and George Lammert who celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary on Jan. 16. George presented Marilyn with a lovely bouquet of yellow roses, her favorite flower. Congratulations, kids. The Moreth family celebrated birthdays Sunday. Granddaughter Margaret Zacharias was 7 years oid on Jan. 4 and daughter, also Margaret, celebrated hers a little early, hers isn't until Feb. 2, but they combined their birthdays so they could celebrate together.. The Jim Smiths have moved from the Horner house to the Oles home on the channel. - Mrs. Gladys Mayer served an old fashioned smorgasbord to her neighbors, Milton and Betty Croasdale, when they celebrated the new year together. We hear it was really delicious. Janice Janquart entertained her card club last Friday evening in her home. She served tasty refreshments and the girls had quite a time playing cards, talking and loading up on Janice's food. The girls having a night out were Marilyn Van Zeern, Hazel Morley, aria Bales. DolLy Novotny, Wanda Dobecki, Dot Erbin and Lois Mason. Shirley Johnson. Emma Eide, and Hazel Rogde joined with Pat Jackson and had a breakfast for Dee Gregg in honor of her birthday at Pat's home. It's a little late, but happy birthday to Dee Gregg on Jan. 8. Bob and Lorraine Hurckes will entertain their 'Couple Club' this Saturday the twentyfourth. There's loads of fun in store for everyone when you meet with the HurcKes. We hope Mr. and Mrs. John Thelen are enjoying their threeweeks trip to Florida. While John is bathing in the hot sun, Vern had taken over the job of driving the school bus. The Vrbiks left on their trip to California last week and when they will be back is anybody's guess. Their good friends Vi and Floyd Johnson, went along to see them off. We all wish you good luck along the way. Church Service Once again I am here to remind anyone interested in the Methodist church that there will be a service at the community center on Feb. 1 at 11:30 in the morning. Plan to be there with the family. Bring along your friends to this our first Sunday service. This Sunday Bob and Lorraine Hurckes will be godparents for their little nephew. Ricky Hurckes. The christening will be held in Waukegan. The Johnsburg school children enjoyed another hot lunch yesterday. The kids really look forward to hot lunch day and it gives them a rest from the usual sandwich. Happy Birthday Happy birthday to Honey Reilly on Jan. 8. News Notes of the Girl Scouts Girl Scout and Brownie birthday party will be held Jan. 27 after school at the Community center. The mothers of the girls are invited. The skating party for all Scouts, Cubs, Brownies, Sea Scouts, and Girl Scouts .will be held Sunday, Jan. 18. A wiener roast will complete the afternoon. Shirley Spankuch will be the president for the next three months. This is the last time Shirley will be able to hold office as an Intermediate Girl Scout. Next year she will be a Senior. Scout. WANTED--women to take leader training to. prepare themselves as Brownie leaders. Many youngsters are patiently waiting to enter the1 Brownies and it may be necessary to organize a new troop. Page Nine The 'Teen Set We hope Lee Johnson is fully recovered from his recent fall, there will be no skating, wrestling or other activities until his back is healed. The 'Teen club held a meeting Tuesday evenirtg and they have decided to have a banner for the ffefthcoming ice carnival in the Highlands. All the 'Teen-agers are filling the skating areas as are the adults practicing for the races, etc. for the carnival. Don Bentz escorted Barbara Schlick to a coketail party before the big dance, at some friends home in McHenry. Delores Formella will spend the day in Chicago Saturday visiting a cousin. Toots Spankuch entertained some of her son's 'teen-age friends Sunday. They watched the game on TV and played cards later on. Ron Spankuch, Janet Peloquin, Bob Messel, Virginia Sabielny. Barbara Schlick and her little brother, Bobby attended a basketball game Friday evening. Every Wednesday night the 'Teens play basketball at the school in Fox Lake. If what we hear is true the boys better look to their laurels. The girls will be taking over, thev have become so good. Here and There Mrs. Weingart is spending a few days in Chicago cooking for her dad and helping while her mother is in the hospital. Lorraine Lindemann is taking care of their home fo»* them while they are gone. Flying the Coop Kay Sielisch will leave the sixteenth for a two weeks sojourn in Cadillac. I House Warming Toots Spankuch's mother and 'dad were the recipients of gag gifts, and refreshments when their friends and neighbors gathered to give them a house warming and 1o welcome them to the Highlands. He joined the company in 1918 as a draftsman and concluded his work as a section chief in the firm's programming organization. Mr. Mcintosh plans to spend more time at his hobbies, fishing and model railroading, now that he has more leisure time.
