Common sense tells us that the proposed hospital cannot be in Huntley, Fox River Grove Cary, Algonquin and Crystal Lake. It is a fair assumption that it would probably be located within a mile of Crystal Lake since Crystal Lake is the center of this proposed district. This means that we will pay taxes on the following bases: 1--If your property is assessed at $10,000 you will pay an increased tax of up to $18 per year. Many of us are closer to Elgin, Waukegan and McHenry or Woodstock which means we might use those hospitals and pay taxes on the Crystal Lake hospital. 2--The hospital will not be free, you pay the going rate for hospital care in addition to your taxes. 3--Did you know that any municipality, township, or fractional part of a township may detach itself from the proposed hospital district by petition filed within sixty days after the hospital district is organized? This means *hat any detachment from the district could cut its size, the amount of taxable property, and the amount of available taxes. With less tax money available for a sixty-five bed hospital you will have to make up the deficit caused by detachments with contributions and possibly more taxes, or build a smaller hospital. 4--The proponents of the hospital have not told you that by law, the appointed board of trustees of the hospital can call a referendum -vote and if it passed they could issue bonds secured by your property up to 5 per cent of the assessed valuation. How many bond issues have failed in this area? How soon will they ask for the 5 percent power against $108.- 000,000 assessed which is $5,- 000,00? The election is> Saturday. Feb. 14, between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Why pay and pay and pay for facilities that might not be as good as Elgin or other "Medicince To Produce Health, Has To Examine Disease" Author's Name Below Modern practice of medicine differs greatly from ancient methods. A research team of scientists, pharmaceutical chemists and physicians are continuously studying the causes of the different diseases. Once they are known, it is only a matter of time before cures are discovered. Physicians now have better methods of diagnosis and treatment. Medicines are formulated to attack the cause. Sometimes, if we have no known chemical that will help, our chemists invent one by synthesis. That is why the medicines your physician now prescribes can help you more than ever before. • YOUR PHYSICIAN CAN PHONE McHENRY 26 WHEN YOU NEED A MEDICINE • Pick up youi; prescription if shopping near us, or let us deliver promptly without extra charge. Supervisor of Nunda township. Crystal Lake 3498-R. WHY A HOSPITAL FOR NUNDA, GRAFTON AND ALGONQUIN TOWNSHIPS FINANCED BY THE TAXPAYERS ? There is a concerted drive by a number of well intentioned people to have a hospital erected to serve this district at the expense of the property owners. No benefit will be given the people who will foot this huge bill other than that they will have another place to go in the event that hospital care is necessary; and you understand that you will pay the prevailing rates that this TAX PAID for hospital sets up. I have talked with a number of people who have the impression that if a hospital is built with taxes provided by the property owners, that it should be free for them. This is far from the truth. You will be charged just the same for your care! The proposed 11c per hundred dollar valuation is by no means sure, as the cost of the proposed hospital is only an estimate, and you can, be sure it undoubtedly will be higher! No land has been purchased as yot. The price of a site can be very expensive. Haw the proponents of this hospital idea approached the many industries and business men of this large area for contributions toward this proposed hospital? I haven't heard of any such solicitation! Why not try it? It would be an idea, and with the proper approach, it would work. No, this takes time and effort. It is easier to saddle the already overburdened taxpayer with still more taxes. Nunda Township levied in 1957 only .104 cents per hundred dollar valuation to take care of all the expenses of the town. These include the Road Commissioners, the Assessor and the assistant, the Supervisor. Town Clerk, Board of Auditors Salaries, and General Assistance. The amount raised by this levy of .104 paid in 1958, was $23,540.79. Nunda township is run on this amount, and usually has a small balance at the end of the, fiscal year. Do you believe that the 11c will produce enough revenue to finance the building of a hospital and maintain it? I don't think so. If this Hospital District is voted in, your cost, based on the assessed valuation of $31,- 000,000 for 1958 in Nunda township, using the proponents of the district's figures of 11c per hundred for the building and ,7V>c for maintenance, will be $57,350.00 to the Nunda Township property owner. You have had added to the tax bills for .1958, the McHenry County Home Building costing $275,000, and the T.B. tax costing $90,000. These figures are for the whole county, but will be spread over all seventeen townships according to valuation. The Harvard Hospital District collected from the taxpayers in 1958 $46,722.24, which was on a levy of .167. If necessary to levy .167, or $1.67 per thousand valuation to receive $46,722.24 for the Harvard District, who had, I am told, $580,- 000 by donations, how much do you think will be necessary for this project? -1 am not opposed to a hospital for this community. I am against it when you ask the already overtaxed property owners to pay for it. Why not trv out the donation idea? T. W. Send us another Lincoln In this hour of gravest need, To keep us in .the path of right. ( To guide us and to lead, With the world so full op trouble Of turmoil and of strife. We need now as never before The influence of his life. Send us his sweet simplicity. His tenderness, his love. His sympathy for those oppressed So like the 6ne above. •. We need his pure unselfishness, That marked his every deed. His deep and rugged honesty, In these days of graft and greed." The love he bore his fellowmen, His passion for the right, His deep abiding faith in God That was his guiding light. His calmness in the face of storm That was with him all the time. His kind, forgiving spirit, His patience so sublime. This is thfe ardent prayer, Oh God, Sent up from the hearts of men, That you send' his spirit and influence, To live with us again.
