AT SCHOOL GYM by Beity Hettermanb Last Saturday evening pupils of the sixth, seventh and eighth grades of the public school, gathered in the school gym for a sock hop. The evening's highlight was the judging, of the socks which were decorated in the valentine motif. Winners of the contest were Bill Peterson and Frances DeYoung first place, while Jim Marshall Carol Sojka took second place. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Stewart chairman of the event sver^ Assisted by two of the teachers, Mr. Von Bosch and Mr. Prince, and some of the P.T.A. members. The youngsters danced in their socks to records and were offered a variation when games were played during the intermissions. The group was served i&reshments at 9:30 after which they embarked for home,, tired but happy. Hospital Notes The family of Joe Himplemann were happy to have him at home for the past two weeks. Joe has been a patient in Hines hospital for quite a spell. |/i m Freund spent a few days la^t week as a patient in the McHenry hospital. Jim suffered a concussion when he was injured at work last Monday. He is now recuperating at home. Laura Schmitt returned home from the Woodstock hospital "earlier this week. She had been confined there for a few days «tver undergoing surgery. Our get-well wishes are extended to the above mentioned and any others in ouf community who are feeling under the 'weather at this time. night visitors in the Hetterraann home where they enjoyed a "gab fest" and pajama party. Joining in on the fun were Nancy Kay Miller, Donna Jean Frett, Ruth Schmitt, Kathy Hettermann and Diane Stilling. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Frett enjoyed dinned out last Saturday evening in celebration of their thirty-fifth wedding anniversary. What day could be more appropriate for an anniversary than Valentine's Day! Stricken Suddenly Our sincere sympathies are extended to Mrs. Gladys Hollenbach upon the death of "her mother, Mrs. James Mraz. Mrs. Mraz was stricken with a heart attaclTon Feb. 4 while in California. The Mraz family is well known in this area as members spent- many summers,, in their home at Pistakee Bay. Travelers Mr. and Mrs. Joe Adams returned to our town last Friday evening after spending three weeks vacationing in Texas and Mexico. Also making this trip was Miss Joan Wagner of Grayslake. Cub Scout Xews The Cub Scouts of Den 6 are bu»y working on a very interesting project, neckties slides. Tho cub Scouts are planning for the Blue and Gold Dinner, which will be held in the high school on Feb. 22. At this dinner Eddie Zahn will graduate into the Boy Scouts. The boys also attended the Fathev and Son night at Wing 'n Fin. They had a marvelous time; Marble Xews Gary Krumwiede, a former student -of McHenry high school, is now Cpl. Gary Krumwiede. Gary is stationed in Okinawa and has heen since August 1958. He stated the fact that New Year in Oki- Mrs. Helen Hettermann accompanied the Herman Dowes of McHenry to Bloomington last Sunday. The group visited Don and Betty Lou Dowe, who took residence there last month. bers. After the meeting each girl joined her own group. Girl Scouts and Brownie Xews Head liners Two of our local 'teen-agers made the front page of this newspaper last week. Charleen ^'eund made news in the musical department when she was chosen "top-not cher" for this month. She was featured in an article in a national magazine known as "The Scohol Musician." Charleen has been active as a band member, in the girls chorus and has developed quile a skill in several musical instruments. Fred Durrenberg was pictur- 6 on the front page last week when he acetd as master of ceremonies at the recent Boy Scout banquet. Both Charleen and Fred are seniors at the local high school in McHenry. Following the roll call and collection of dues. Brownie troop 378 proceeded to enjoy their valentine party. The girls exchanged valentines after which they consumed candy, cookies and orange juice. Patsy Meyers was cookie hostess for the afternoon. Following their lunch the troop joined in playing games. Sweet Sixteen A sweet sixteen surprise party for Josie Sillino was^ givenatherhorne on Feb. 7. Some fifty teen - agers from Lilymoor, McHenry and surrounding areas attended this party. The menu consisted of ham sandwiches, cakes, two birthday cakes, coffee, pickles, etc. Josie received many lovely gifts. The 'teen-agers danced and had a wonderful time. This and That A pleasant jaunt to Chicago •Was taken by the Egbert family last Saturday. While in Chicago they visited Mr:^and Mrs. Gilbert Eggert. Sunday the boat show in Chicago was viewed bs Mr. and Mrs. Eggert and Mr. and Mrs. Rowland of Fritzsches Estates. A certain resident in Lilymoor would like to state that she was not driving recklessly last week, but avoiding broken glass on the highway. The mid-winter picnic at the Community Methodist church was enjoyed by the Beilfords.
