Last Wednesday the 'teenagers held a meeting at Lee Johnson's. They want to remind the 'teenagers not to foi^ get to attend the Easter holiday appearance on Chicago Bandstand. • Did Bob Fletcher and. Hope to hear g'i#) news soon. Don Rockel celebrated his two day leave by going skating with his friends in McHenry. He returned to Washington, D. C. Sunday evening. • 'Teens Wish Beloved 'Teen Leader Speedy Recovery The 'Teenagers were very upset about the accident that befeU| their leader, Jim Bales. Tlrey want Jim to know they are praying very hard for him and wishing him a very successful recovery, and that they will miss him very much. Jim has a very special place in their hearts, and all your good work has been appreciated and they are really concerned. So get well soon, they need you. The Mike Healys of Acorn Ljfce were happy to have their sen, James, , home for the weekend. Mom was busy making cookies and all the goodies Jim enjoys. The Harts of Ann street had their girls out for the weekend and also Betty's mother came with them. They hope she will spend many weekends with them. #aily Sieliscb.'s Uncler Christ cousin, Jack Hurckes, spent the twenty-eighth with them helping Wally all they can with the work in the house. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Betty Baker who is confined in St. Theresea's hospital in Waukegan. She would appreciate cards from her friends. Adele Huack , Carl and BAnche Haefliger attended the OILS, card party in McHenry. Wednesday evening a meeting of the executive board of the association was held in the Johnson home. Don Misavice and Ardeth Szybelbaum were home from school a couple of days this week with fcore throats. Seems there is a lot of it going around. Blanche Haefliger's brother a4£ wife, Lawrence and Mary Elder from Park Ridge, were Sunday callers at the Haefligers. They have not seen them since Thanksgiving and were happy to catch up on family news. Friday Judy Krumweide and Kay Sielisch went shopping in Crystal Lake, Kay spent a few happy hours picking out things for the house that was ruined. OP the way back they stopped This and That Mrs. Bentz was confined to bed most of the week with a very bad cold. The Maclnaneys of Chicago were Saturday guests of the Schlicks. Bet the cards were really flying that evening. The Schlicks are noted card players. Bill Schlick's father, Mr. Remke, spent a recent day with them and the children were most happy to see their grandfather. Mrs. Erdmann gave a card party Tuesday evening. It was .an open invitation to any mem- Ifter of the Women's club who cared to attend. There were nine women in all. There was a meeting held in the home of Mrs. Zillikin to discuss Easter preparations for the Community and the parties for the kiddies. Happy belated birthday greeting to Bill SchVick. His birthday was the twentieth. Sorry we missed it, Bill, but best wishes are better late than never. Floyd Johnson, son, Lee, daughter, Lynn, the Jim Bales. Milton Crosdale, Ron Spankuch, Barb Schiick and Bob Fletcher were among the Highlanders to watch the basketball tournament in Johnsburg Sunday afternoon. Big Don Bentz played on the Johnsburg team and it was a heartbreaking loss, by one point. Thanks to Barb the 'Teen news is a welcome item. Without your help it couldn't be done. classes and got acquainted with the job of teaching and just how to go about handling a class to its best advantage. The site and building committee met last Wednesday evening in the Thorens' home. Rev. Mellor presided over the meeting. Mr. Bentz played the organ last Sunday and what a Wonderful job he did. Girl Scout Week Girl Scout week begins March 8 thru the 14. Starting on March 9 the Girl Scouts and Brownies will be knocking on your door taking orders for their cookie and nut sale. If you have ever bought the cookies before you know how good they are and will want a few more boxes this year. Let's all help make the Girl Soouts and Browniies cookie sale a big success. Eye Surgery' Jim Bales injured his eye last week and had to be taken to the hospital where he underwent surgery tor repair the damage. We all wish Jim a speedy and successful recovery. We are all pulling for you, Jim. flappy Birthday Happy birthday to Michael and Gary Morley who both celebrated their birthdays on March 1. Mike was 4 and Gary was 2. Both boys have been suffering from bad colds but still managed to celebrate with a few friends and their grandparents. Church News With the registration of Sunday school now off to a good start, with the first classes held last Sunday. The newly formed Methodist church is really beginning to take shape. A meeting of the teachers was held last week and some helpful hints w^re given by Miss Beverly Jackson, who is well versed of the subject. Last Sunday morning Mrs. George VanZevern, Mrs. Geri Cenami, Miss Jackson and Mrs. Hazel Morley visited the Methodist churcn in McHenry and sat in on the Sunday school Leash em' or Lose em' We're talking about the dog round-up which will begin on March 7. If you have a dog and want to keep him then keep him off the roads and other's property because if any stray dogs are found after March 7 to the pound they will go. Tid Bits from the Highlands Tom and Lois Mason visited with Tom's brother, Bob, In Chicago. Art andfo Lorraine Erdmann entertained a few of their neighbors last Saturday evening. Delia and Bob Wesselink, Marcia and Ed Dowd and Mr. and Mrs. Van Breuenchenhein joined in a few hours of social fun. Be on the look out for the balloon man who is coming soon to the Johnsburg school. Lorraine Erdmann had a card party in her home last Tuesday evening. Audrey Zetterburg lunched with a group of friends in Deerfield last Thursday. They all went to visit a friend who just moved into her new home. Last Sunday evening Barb ancf Reb Sisk visited th^Morleys and viewed the movies that were taken at the recent party at the Morleys. Bob and Lorraine Hurckes and family sper^t last Sunday in Johnsburg with Lorraine's grandfather, Mr. Schultz, in honor of his eightieth birthday. Also on hand were many other relatives and friends. Dee Gregg is home from the hospital after her recent operation and feeling just fine. She has her daughter home with her now but grandmother is still caring for the baby. Glad to see you home, Dee. Hazel and Martin had a house full of company over the weekend. They came from DeKalb and Chicago to devour some of Hazel's good cooking. Thanks When a 'teen-ager gets in trouble or doesn't toe the line just so, you are sure to hear about it. But when they d6 something constructive the word doesn't spread quite so rapidly. The persons connected with the Mount Hope Methodist church are grateful to the 'teen-agers for all the work they have done in passing out thp handbills that you all found in your mail box. Crysta Thoede corralled a group of her friends and together they got busy and helped Mrs. Stewart circulate all the literature. I wish I had the names of all those who helped so we could thank them personally. Watch for the association news in next week's column. We will try to bring you a blow by blow description of the meeting. Your reporters have been having a little trouble finding some of ytou home when we call for news. Now that we have had just a little taste of mild weather it looks like everyone is taking to the outdoors. If you have any news we will be more than happy to take it from you. , School Addition Due to the increasing enrollment at Johnsburg school the board of education is planning an addition which will consist of eight classrooms, kitchen, two lavatories, office, all purpose room, lunch room and teachers' room. The board is planning an election on the bond issue for some time in March. The American Legion celebrates their fortieth birthday this month. McHenry Unit 491 will ahold their celebration March 14. The auxiliary will serve a pot luck supper at 7 p.m. Dancing' will begin at 9 o'clock. A hearing will be held at the city hall on Tuesday, March 10, at 3 o'clock, at which time the petitioner, the State Bank of Woodstock, as trustee,, is asking for a change in classification of property now zoned "F" farming. The petitioner wishes to have it rezoned -to "R-l" residential. The property is located immediately east of Wooded Shores division of Farm Lands and Shore Hills subdivision in Wonder Lake. Other hearings are also scheduled at that time. Frank V. Jones and Daisy B. Jones wish a variation of the "side yard requirement" of the county ordinance allowing them to replace or alter an existing garage which is now too close to the lot lines. The property is located on Regner road, close to the south shore of Pistakee Bay. A third hearing involves Mary Lou Hartog, Who wishes to change the classification of a piece ol property from "R-l" residential district classification to "B-l" business district classification. The property is located in Wonder Center, Unit No. 1. GIRL SCOUTS Troop 211 In our Girl Scout meeting Feb. 17, we elected officers. Susan Nardi elected president and Christine Liptrot, vice president. The treasurer is Bonnie Sue Reoto and the secretary is Joyce Adams.
