The neatly arranged campsites represented twenty-four Boy scout troops and eight Explorer posts from the communities of McHenry and Boone counties. The theme of the ' camporee was Paul Bunyan and the activities centered around woodmanship projects. The Explorer posts had- prepared eight activity areas on the grounds where Scouts had the opportunity to give a practical application to their basic skills ^in pioneering and woodsmanship. The 550 Scouts and leaders were divided by troops into eight groups and these groups travelled from activity to activity each half hour to build a lashed sapling tower,1 raise a flagpole with guy-lines, build and cross a rope "monkey bridge," and learn other camping and pioneering skills.
